A very nice evening with good food. Our server, whose name escapes me, was very pleasant. However, there was one timing issue. We ordered wine to accompany our entrees. The glasses of wine did not arrive until we were nearly done eating. That was a little annoying.
Otherwise the usual very pleasant Lia's experience.
Was disappointed that service was slow for Sunday brunch especially given that restaurant was not busy and there appeared to be adequate wait staff
The best veal scallopini ever!
And the mystery wine, Adami prosecco, was also quite good.
Can be inconsistent. The last dinner was terrific
Good food and very attentive service. Lia's is becoming a favorite for casual lunches
We requested outside seating and were pleased that we were given a table outside.
We arrived when it was light but when the order arrived, it was already dark. The one candle on the table was not lit and it took the waiter at least 15 minutes to light it. He said he couldn’t find the lighter.
The one cable was inadequate and it was almost impossible to see the food to cut. Some tables had lights on the underneath of the umbrella but we did not. The hangar steak and mushrooms were delicious.
Hi, Bernice! Thank you for leaving feedback about your visit. We are so happy you enjoyed your time with us. We will be moving towards installing lights on all of our patio umbrellas soon, so light will be less of an issue soon. I hope we see you again soon!!
All around it was a nice dining experience. Service excellent as was the food. We sat outside under an umbrella on one glorious day. For some reason I was so relaxed during my meal.
Had lunch with a college friend. We sat outside. It was hot and sunny but they do a nice job of positioning the umbrellas so both people are in the shade. We both had a salad. The spinach salad was delicious. The new salad looked good and she ate it all so I assume she liked it. Service was very attentive. I would definitely come back.
Fantastic dishes! Get the summer eggplant. It’s worth it.
Thanks for telling us about your recent experience at Lia's! We really appreciate the feedback and are so pleased to hear you enjoyed. Our specials menu changes on the 4th, so our Eggplant Parmesan dish will be replaced. We are adding some new very tasty things, however. I would especially recommend the Pan Seared Halibut dish that we will feature. We hope to welcome you back very soon, and that we can still impress you with tasty dishes!!
Excellent experience. Handled our party of 8 superbly! Food was perfect. Service outstanding and very friendly ! Great place for a nice meal. Nice cocktails too!
A Neighborhood Gem That's Good for Birthdays Too!
I've always thought of Lia's as a favorite local hangout, good for casual evenings out with others who live nearby. But I never thought of it as a "special occasion" place.
That changed last week, when I was trying to decide where to celebrate my birthday. I thought of all the "hot" spots in DC. And then I thought of Lia's, where the staff and management always make me feel at home, and where the food is perfect for any occasion, since it's possible to order as much or little as you like. The clincher came when an e-mail arrived, offering birthday greetings and a gift of $25 off. That did it. I booked immediately, got my favorite table, found my name on the blackboard, and enjoyed a splendid meal. What more could anyone ask?
Thank you so much for this lovely comment! We care a great deal about making sure everyone feels taken care of, and that is very easy to do with such great guests. We look forward to the next time you visit us!!
One of our favorite restaurants!
Coffee surprisingly mediocre.
Scallops delicious. Heirloom tomato salad is great.
Dear Bexley, thank you for your feedback! I suggest trying our espresso next time, if you only had the drip coffee; it's fresh ground and has a better, stronger taste to it. I hope we see you again soon!!
Lia's is right up the street, so we walk by all the time -- but somehow we've only eaten there twice. We're glad to have found a really nice place in the neighborhood for dinner. The food is really good -- nothing gourmet, but solid, delicious food. Service was great this time -- our server was charming and efficient. We ate on the outdoor patio, so the atmosphere was wonderful. We'll be back more often!
We go there quite often and are always pleased — food, service, noise level are all excellent.
The adults loved their meals, but the kids weren’t thrilled with theirs. The waitstaff was really friendly and personable. We’d definitely go back.
The scallopini was so tough that I had to send it back. The swordfish was ok, but slightly overlooked. Very disappointing.
We went during DC restaurant week. Overall food and service were good. The brussel sprouts appetizer was very good as was the calamari. My wife's NY strip was too well done but they provided a new steak medium done without hassle or too long of a wait.
This was out second visit and second time we opted to sit outside. The service was good, timely and we enjoyed good food in great environment.
Always love the service and food is inventive, plentiful and delicious. Got seated in the back room and being a designer myself, I can say with authority that they need to re-think the decor in that room. It never was "cool" and I always feel like I am dining in a box car. Server was great and food delicious but the decor in that room us just a graffitti nightmare.
Dear Martin, thank you so much for your feedback. I am happy to hear that you had a good experience. Our private dining space is supposed to resemble a wine box, but it does need an update. We hope to see you again very soon, despite the decor!
They should consider adding pasta and more Italian food to their menu if they'd like to be considered an Italian restaurant. 5 burgers and not 1 pasta on their brunch menu? Understandably there wouldn't be pasta on a breakfast menu, but neither would burgers. That being said, it was pretty delicious, the bread under my eggs Benedict was pretty difficult to cut but the actual poached eggs, perfection.
Hi, Julianna! Thank you very much for your feedback. Lia's specializes in our pasta dishes, and we are happy to make a fresh tasty pasta dish at any time. We will definitely take your suggestion into consideration. We hope to see you again very soon!
First of all, the food is excellent. Absolutely exquisite. Based on just the food experience, I would recommend Lia's to anyone. Lia's is located in Friendship Heights which is not typically known as a foodie destination, unlike nearby Bethesda. For that reason, it seems to be less crowded and quieter. The prices are a bit steep for someone my age, but reasonable given the quality of the food. I went there recently for DC's summer restaurant week, and the $35 dinner deal is very much worth it because you get three courses for that price when regularly, some of the entrees alone approach that price. I would recommend it for anyone who has the means to go and who doesn't mind not being in a trendy spot, and would highly recommend during restaurant week.
Fantastic BD dinner.
We eat here often and really love it! We especially love eating outside.
We went for restaurant week and found the food and service to be wonderful. Parking isn’t a pain either which can be rare in the DMV area. I would highly recommend this restaurant!
We very much enjoyed our lunch at LIA'S. Everything was excellent except the poached eggs were a little cooked. We definitely recommend going to LIA'S!
Great food and great service!
Great food with many different options and we loved the ambience. We were looking for somewhere new and this was the perfect choice!
The food is always outstanding. The risotto balls are the best I have every eaten.
Food is good and service is one of the best.
We asked for a particular table that was being cleaned and the greeter went and finished the clean up on outside table for us.
Waiter, Carlos, was friendly and attentive.
We go to lia’s often and enjoy this neighborhood place.
Great outdoor seating, expansive restaurant week menu was a tremendous value. Highly recommend.
Best place for lunch in that neighborhood. Good food, good service.
We really liked our meal, very nice interior surroundings. We will be back.
Lia's seemed even better this time than the last time we were there. I am an enthusiastic fan of anything they do with wild mushrooms, like the wild mushroom raviolis I had again this time. My husband had the scallops and pronounced them "perfect". My son chose and had high praise for the "shrimp burger". Great food and a very pleasant evening together!
A comfortable place for a date or a large family gathering. Attentive service. Nice atmosphere. A menu that accommodates a range of tastes.
Attentive service, great quality food, agreeable atmosphere. Only negative was the noise level which even though we were seated in the corner required straining our voices to hear and be heard. Would enthusiastically recommend to friends.
Just nothing special about it, everything was mediocre to ok. My wife and I both left with the same feeling, that we had just taken in a bunch of calories for a meal that was nothing to write home about. Too many options out there to go back and wouldn't recommend it to others without limiting their expectations.
If I didn't live near Lia's, I'd move. That may sound like an exaggeration, but it's true. Imagine a neighborhood restaurant that offers great food, terrific service and a management that actually cares about its customers! That's Lia's. This is a restaurant where the staff welcomes you when you walk in, remembers your favorite table and produces food that is both innovative and beautifully prepared. I feel lucky to live nearby!
My favorite neighborhood bistro does not have a lot of competition! Food is consistently good or better, service variable. Ambience (indoor) becoming a problem; very loud at times; difficult to talk.
I have recommended Lia's to friends in the past. Based on food quality and value I would like to do this again. But something needs to be done about noise level.
