La Mission - Playa del Carmen
We were two couples that dined here last week. The others ordered the surf & Turf, which they said was good except for the "garlic butter" that came with it. Unfortunately, the one that ate it was very sick the entire night afterwards. My husband had the stuffed chillies, which were good, but my filet steak that I ordered rare came well done the first time, and so blue it was still cold in the centre the second. They did not charge me for it, as I didn't eat any of it, but the veggies and fries were good. Pretty pricey, at 500 pesos for 1 dinner and 3 beers, and the other couple's bill came to 1300 pesos, including 4 beers. It could've been a bad night for the restaurant, but we won't be returning to try it again.
Had a wonderful meal there with my family. The restaurant is smaller than I expected based upon the photos but the wait staff was very attentive and the steak and lobster was delicious as was my husbands seafood platter. Great overall value for a great price too. Definitely would dine here again.
Delicious time and time again. Love the garden area.
We order a vine Bottle that had black moisture inside i Never saw something like that. And the food was a 5/10
We'd been to La Mission in Cozumel and enjoyed it so decided to try this one in Playa. Unfortunately the food came out luke warm/cool; 3 of the 4 of us received our meals while the 4th meal took another 8 minutes to come out; ordered 4 margaritas but only received 3 (lost in translation). Overall it was not a good experience and the food was mediocre at best.
It was Valentine's day dinner out on a double date with friends so extra disappointing.
Atmosphere was lovely. Food was very good. Coconut shrimp were the best I have ever had
So, I had read the reviews here before I went and thought I really want to go here. That was unfortunate. We arrived at 6:00 for dinner which I realize is early for dinner in Mexico, but I did not expect that we would be the only ones there. We were taken to a table on the back patio. There were three tables so it's not that large of an area. From my vantage point, I was able to look into the open door of the bathroom and see trash on the back wall of the patio. We had troubles ordering as the waiter and the waitress didn't speak any English. I ordered the lobster as I had seen that in a review. It was greasy and tough. I don't recommend it. I wanted red wine, but was unable to get across my order so I didn't get it. You do get soup and salad included, but I'm not sure that is enough for me to return. My husband's meal was also just o'k. No one came to eat while we were there, and we were still the only ones when we left while the downtown Playa del Carmen restaurants were hopping.
We have dined here for the past 2 New Years Eve...The garden open air area with fountain is magical. The cervechi was the best I ever had.
Dinner was very good. Plenty of food. Reasonable prices. Off the Main Street. The waiters were so cute and hard working.
I picked this restaurant based on their ratings and wanted lobster. They told us they couldn't take credit cards because their system was down yet I saw they processed a credit card for another table. I guess they did want our business. So we left.
Food causes stomach illness. Food was apparently made for tourists bland but cheap
Best restaurant to eat at in playa del Carmen! Everytime I come to playa I alway eat here. The food and service never disappoints!!! Best food, great prices, and excellent service!!!
Great service, ambience is ok, ask to be seated in the back patio, it's cooler there. The front room has the open kitchen and it can get quite hot. This is a very casual place for a basic meal.
Margaritas are 120 pesos, too expensive, food was good, don't like the pictures for sale.
Muy authentico. The value here is outstanding. Great portions and fast service.
The staff were wonderful and the food was terrible. The Chicken Cordon Bleu is some chicken w/ some cheese melted inside. The "filet mignon" is some kind of random, overcooked, chewy piece of meat.
All I can say is excellent. I had lobster and husband had surf and turf. Started with delicious lime soup and ended with coconut ice cream. A margarita in the middle. Highly recommend
Always great food and service. There was work being done in the garden which did interfere with our dinner just a bit but overall it was a great experience. Highly recommend.
Delicious food along with super friendly service make this place stand out. Prices are not bad either. No price gouging on New Years eve like so many others. Just the normal delicious and reasonable menu. The coconut shrimp were the best thing we ate all week. Wow.
Received cocktails after main course even though we kept asking for them. Food was just ok and price was fair. Would not go again or recommend
One of my families favorite meals in Playa was "La Mission"! We Found this gem on Trip Advisor and the 4 of us dined on New Years Eve 2016. (Reservations thru Open Table). Close to all the action but, far enough away to relax! Walking distant from 5th in Playa Del Carmen. Even with this being a very busy holiday, we were seated and waited on in a timely fashion.
La Mission has 2 areas, open air seating when you first enter (with roof) or outdoor garden area in the back. I did not know this when I made the reservation. Had I known this I would have requested the garden area, (lush and pretty). We ended up sitting at a table in the open air seating next to the open air kitchen. Even though it was really warm from the grill it was fun inner acting with the chefs, great meal, great time.
This is a low key "family" type restaurant. The staff were very helpful and friendly. It is more of a Tex-Mex menu than traditional Mexican but this was good rather than a disappointment. the prices were very reasonable and the margaritas were to die for.
Try the beef fajitas and any fish.
Had a great time. Not sure if our was supposed to be multiple courses, and but we were served lime soup, and garlic bread and coconut sorbet in addition to our entrees. It was all terrific. Highlight was when one of our party ordered a Spanish coffee. They brought a cart and did a complete show on making the coffee. And it was delicious, not just coffee with alcohol. Staff was great. We even bought the souvenir framed group photo and tequila bottle.
Garlic fish unbelievable
We looked forward to eating at this location as it was new to us. When we arrived we were greeted promptly and in a friendly manner. We ordered drinks and then when we were ready to order, we discovered that La Mission had no shrimp available..none. As this item is in almost all their food we were considering, we decided to move to another location and return at a later date. Since we live here in Mexico, this was not a problem. They were very gracious about the situation and comped our beverages. We intend to return to really test and taste their offerings.
Excellent food for a great price and only 2 blocks away from the 5th Ave, definitely the best meal I had in Cancun - Playa del Carmen Area.
Our party of 4 had visited other La Mission locations in Cozumel so we decided to try their restaurant in Playa Del Carmen. Frankly it was the worst experience any of us have ever had. We arrived with reservations at 7 pm, we were seated in a rather empty restaurant (about 4 tables had patrons), and ordered drinks and appetizers. The appetizers arrived about 30 minutes later, drinks never came - So we ordered drinks again and ordered our dinners as well - 3 lobster combo dishes and 1 grilled shrimp plate. We finally had to flag down another waitperson to get our drinks, he assured us our meals would be served shortly. TWO hours later, TWO dishes arrived and SHARE plates for the other two diners. We asked where are the other two dishes, and they are completely oblivious to the mixup. So we track down our original waiter and he says he forgot. They offer to complete our order but it would be another 30 minutes. By now it's close to 10 pm and there's no chance they'd have the dinners out by 10:30. So the four of us share the two dinners. Our second round of drinks never arrive. We ask for management and are directed to the waiter who forgot to order 2 of the 4 meals - so no help there. We asked for our check, it never came - we finally go to the only person we see carrying cash and ask to pay her. Of course the bill was wrong too, many of the NON-delivered items were on it. We cross off the items we did not receive and settle on the final bill which we pay and leave, THREE AND ONE-HALF HOURS after the ordeal began and STILL hungry/thirsty. Absolutely a Train wreck from beginning to end.
Uninterested in the restaurants on 5th Avenue with people trying to inspire us to come inside, we continued on to La Mission, which I'd read about - AND WERE SO REWARDED. The place is lovely with a special area in the back. The menu says it all: If you don't like it you don't pay. I'm sure nobody has ever not liked what they serve.
First, they bring guacamole in an avocado peel along with pico de gallo. This and some Margaritas got things off to a great start. Then the Cuban singer started playing her guitar and entertaining us, moving things off happily. We ordered a shrimp cocktail that was terrific and chili rellenos, the best I've ever had - and they're beautiful decorated. Portions are large. Service is friendly and professional.
We had only one night left of our vacation but returned, at which time we were greeted like old friends as we entered and given a CD by the singer. We'd found our home and are eager to go back. This time I started with the avocado and shrimp, which I highly recommend.
Their seafood is "Bassa" probably imported from South east Asia, The Mexican dinner was adequate, neither good, nor bad. The wait staff seemed totally uninterested.
Looked where address was listed, checked Google map, talked to residents . . . could not find and no one had heard of it.
La Mission was a great restaurant - very good food, good value and very pleasant staff.
The food and service were exceptional. The coconut shrimp sre exceptional. We have recommended this to friends and they have all loved it. The Mexican shrimp is a good dish to try something different. The Mexican chicken is delicious also. The garlic fish is another favourite. A large serving of fish in this dish. Quesadillas are very good. They are not on the menu but will make them.
Nice location. Good and fresh meals. A little hectic ambiance as you enter beside the open cooking place where the cooks handel very fast, grilling and cooking, runing to the a room taking some fresh fish or beaf and running back to the cooking space. We have never seen before that cooks are running making their jobs. Also the service is very fast! All in all: it was good food, good service and we had good entertainment by seeing how all employies do their jobs with heart and speed. They love and life their jobs! Congratulations to management!
La Mission came highly recommended and did not disappoint. There were 6 in our party. Our waiter Julian was fantastic. We tried ceviche for the first time and it was delicious. As was all of the food we ordered. A great dining experience was had by all. None of us were disappointed. We also have recommended La Mission to others so they can enjoy this great spot as well. Tks!
Organized dinner for a group of 12 this week after reading about this place being a great find in Playa Del Carmen.
Everything started off really well - food, drinks, service. We'd been given free lime and chicken soup and free ice cream, and although the steaks were good, they weren't cooked to order - the medium rares were more medium well, so that's the only food criticism that could be improved upon.
Otherwise it was going well, right up until the end of the meal.
We'd been offered separate checks early on so split them into four checks. Two of us wanted to pay by card as it was the last day of our vacation and we didn't have much cash left, but we were soon informed the card machine wasn't working. We had to scrape together our cash (which was fine, luckily I had US$), but one waiter, who didn't speak much English, came over and told my fiancé the total didn't include tip. We said yes, we know, we've got it, and handed him the bill, but he proceeded to then open it up on the table right in front of us and count out our cash, like he didn't believe us! When he realized we'd given more than enough, he nodded and just took it away, much to our disbelief! How rude! You should never count it out in front of the customer - it's not like we were rushing out the door; we were finishing our drinks and after that we promptly left!
It was a bad way to end what had otherwise been a great meal.
Great lobster at a reasonable price. They also have a very tasty Chile Rellenos - I haven't had one this good since my days in Juarez 40 years ago. The lime soup that is included with the dinner is also very tasty. Try the shrimp cocktail, if you like it in a slightly sweet red salsa.
Mario took very good care of us again this yeGreat lobster at a reasonable price.
