Don’t bother with the shared platter. Looked like it was random objects found at the bottom of the freezer, then either fried or slightly warmed through.
Disappointing in the extreme.
Whilst I appreciate that it was perhaps an odd time.. 5.30 in the afternoon. I would have thought a hotel of that size would have been capable of serving a hot platter.
We did complain, but it was ignored.
Also vastly overpriced - even for London!
From the moment we arrived we were made welcome, treated with care and respect. The restaurant was very tasteful presented, the staff were helpful and the level of attention was appropriate. The food was excellent and the price was reasonable. We left feeling well fed and happy with the whole experience.

On arrival at the restaurant we were asked if this was a special occasion which it was. When we finally ordered the server (later we found out this was the supervisor) was asked a question about the spiciness of a curry. She then took main course orders, 2 of which were the specials, we then had to ask for the starter order, drinks were then ordered.
The starters for the specials arrived with the wrong bottle of wine, which was then replaced. After awhile we asked about the other starters. Answer was there had been a miscommunication we then had the mains delivered then the starters while eating the mains. The Katsu sauce was Luke warm as were the beef rendangs. Stephanie our new server worked really hard to recover the situation, however was not successful in that the whole experience had been soured from the start, I recommend this young lady gets a job with a decent restaurant as she deserves better, as to the supervisor I wouldn’t put her in charge of a sheep dip, not once did she converse with our table. If this had not been a special occasion for my 14 year old granddaughter I would have left and not paid.
I don’t normally comment on restaurants, but it was really poor. Starter was ok, mains were terrible. Poor service and lack of ambience. Really disappointing.

Great deal to be had and add to it happy hour at the bar from 4:30 to 7pm! Best inexpensive dinner in London!!
Surprising the food was bad. Surely the chef could have done a better job.

The restaurant was empty, it had no ambience whatsoever and the food was just OK. Nothing bad about it and nothing great either. I will not be going back.

Such an enjoyable experience - Abdel, the sous chef, was wonderful and made sure our food allergies didn’t interfere with a delightful dining event :)
GreAt service and really good choice for the small plates
We had a reservation for 6 people. We all found the service and food very good. The staff were friendly and efficient. We had 3 courses and each arrived at the table at a reasonable amount of time. I would recommend the place for a good meal out with the family or friends.
Nice ambience. However, the food was basic considering the prices.
Smiling staff. thats where it starts and ends. very slow service, food very bland. every thing took forever, trying to get a member of staff to order things was impossible, and the bill took nearly half hour to arrive. it was also very empty when we arrived, so cant put it down to them being busy and rushed off their feet. i will not be coming here again, nor recommend this place to anyone, as its very bland, tasteless food, and over priced for their offering.
The food was good although one of our starters was cold. We got no action on this. The staff were untrained to deal with serving champagne etc. Disappointing

would not recommend. two of us went to try this restaurant as I have a member's card and give me 50% off the food bill. The food was really really low quality... it's not as good as my local take away. and the service? well, we've been asked twice "how was the food" and we been asked twice "would you like some dissert?" and we've been asked twice to present the member's card and check that we are eligible for the discount. one starter, two main courses, two tea, after the 50% discount on food, the bill come to 36pound!!! Not happy at all. The place's ambience is good, if you like a quiet place for conversation. It's linked with Ken's and they have a secret garden with deck chairs. which looks interesting. There are much better places around and I would not go back, even with 50% off the food bill.
The place is fantastic but the quality and mainly the service is not up to the rest.
Orders must be made at the bar and not where the customers are. You must leave a credit card at the bar as if all customers are potential thieves.
I find the service at the table very bad, not at all professional as the executive would like to prove it. When the price is high, the service and quality also must be high.
Even payment is problematic, we do not accept payment in Euro ?.
So my opinion, to visit for a drink and not to eat.
Extremely slow service. They did not have A/C on. It was very hot. We will not go again.
Ambiance was your typical 4* London hotel restaurant.
Food was tasty and prices in-line for a central London eatery of this type.
Service was pleasant but clearly under-staffed for Saturday night. Once mains were served our waiter had to tend to other diners (understandably) so no follow-up thereafter with beverages, and desert would have just taken too long.
Food was great but drinks were very slow to arrive. Also cocktail wasn’t very good.

This was our first visit and again it was quite honestly faultless. Service was attentive, yet personal and really quite delightful. The food was innovative and beautifully cooked and presented. Staff were knowledgeable and rather fun, it's lovely to see people enjoy their job! Food was promptly served and cooked to perfection. A nice selection of drinks were on offer in a lovely atmosphere.
Food was very good although the selection of mocktails could have been wider. Service was rather slow but friendly.
Sorry it was just very bad. The food was bland and uninspiring and overall pricey.

Good Asian food. Tasting menu (2 persons min.) is excellent. Friendly service.
The restaurant wasn’t overly busy when we arrived, however it took 30 minutes for us to receive our drinks (two cokes) the food then followed ten minutes later. We ordered fried squid, crispy aromatic duck, jasmine rice and beef rendang. The squid was very rubbery, a clear indication that it was by no means fresh, the jasmine rice was congealed and pretty bland, the crispy aromatic duck was very fatty and by no means crispy- the hoisin sauce accompanying it had absolutely no flavour whatsoever. The beef rendang tasted like it had been stewed for three weeks and once again no flavour whatsoever, not what you’d expect at £16 a bowl. We complained about the beef rendang and this was removed from our bill. The staff weren’t attentive in the slightest and it took almost half an hour to get their attention in order to complain. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, unless of course you have no taste buds and enjoy being ignored.
We had a mixture of dishes alongside the tasting menu. All four of us were very pleased with the food.
The service was excellent and included shredding our Peking duck at the table which was good to see as we haven’t seen that in a long time.
No atmosphere and food was very mediocre, service couldn’t be faulted.
Second visit. Good location for South Ken and Royal Albert Hall. Turned up on time, no one there! Eventually we were shown to a table - but she did not check our reservation - not that we needed one at %pm as we were first. It became clear staff English was poor, particularly when we ordered a decent bottle of branded champagne and the waiter brought the house fizz! As a consequence ordering was chore. When food arrived it was tasty and better than ok. Think they need to up their game on their staff and it would be good.
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience here. The staff and the whole experience was lovely. Would recommend.
Overall nothing to complain about. But didn’t realise it was a hotel restaurant before coming and it tried too hard to be formal without the requisite skills. However, food was okay and the staff put effort in.

It took too long to get my food, the check, or anyone’s attention to even pay the bill.
If you don’t want duck or good service, it was great.

Our dining experience at Umami was to take clients out for a lunch, one that we'd hope would be excellent service and food. Unfortunately the service was very poor; our waitress seemed disengaged and uninterested in providing us with the best possible service. Our drinks took 20-25 minutes to arrive from the point of ordering, our starters took a further 30 minutes and by the time our main courses had arrived we had been in the restaurant for well over an hour and a half if I was to estimate.
The food was good but all of us sadly did not have our expectations met. The main issue however was the ambiance and in particular the poor service. This lunch was an important business meal and sadly was quite a let down.
