Kaz Sushi Bistro
Outstanding. Creative takes and incredibly fresh sushi.
Excellent food and professional, timely service. Everything was delicious, but the sushi portions are a bit small for the price. The crunchy soft shell crab roll was especially good.
This place is my GO TO sushi joint every time I am in DC for personal or business. Their sushi are spot on and fresh. Creative selections and combinations. You won’t be disappointed!
Always a great meal at Kaz! One of our favorite places to eat.
The wait staff was very helpful with explaining and recommending food choices..
Fantastic experience- super fresh seafood especially the scallops, prepared perfectly.
Excellent food. Try the Hawaiian walu, which is absolutely succulent. For warm dishes, the Asian style short ribs are superb.
The food was amazing, and the visit became a very nice experiance, mostly because of the nice waitress. We think her name was Jenny, she had worked there since the opening and she came from Malaysia...we think.
It was wonderful, thank you for making my friend's birthday great.
Sushi and Seaweed Salad were delicious. I enjoyed everything I had. Service was great.
Always a great experience
This was an awesome, quiet spot where my new spouse and I enjoyed our wedding night dinner! We loved everything we ordered, the service was impeccable, and we’ll definitely be back!
Outstanding service, great place for any occasion!
Love this place. Best sushi in DC
Lots of great vegan and gluten free options. Delicious. Great service. Definitely will go back for more.
For sushi novice
Great food and fantastic service and a friendly venue with great atmosphere
Very good fish, we enjoyed our experience. Server disappeared at times but it was Restaurant Week
After 25 years, Kaz Sushi Bistro remains the place to frequent if you’re a fan of well-prepared Japanese food. The are both traditional and modern selections. Serving sizes respect the diner’s sensibilities by serving adequately and, most importantly, high quality food. You will not be offered sumo-wrestler portions. The sake selections are varied. Nama sake is available here. Mother’s milk!
Excellent food, service acceptable, prices on the high side.
Kaz is definitely for the sashimi lover as they have a large selection of fish and pretty basic rolls. I took my girlfriend here for her birthday. I called ahead to let them know it was her birthday and wanted to know if they could place flowers or something on the table to surprise her. They said they could do a candle on a dessert. I said okay...however, I arrived minutes after my friend. They had already seated her so when I came in I let them know it was her birthday. After talking with my friend for a few minutes she told me they asked her if it was her birthday or mine when they sat her. I was very irritated they did this because I wanted the dinner to appear just as a normal dinner and surprise her with a candle at the end. They ruined that for me. I would go back for sushi but not for a special occasion.
Always great food and service ... highly dependable with a few extra special dishes that you often don't see in other sushi restaurants. Well done!
The sushi was phenomenal! The unit was buttery and fresh from Maine while the foie gras was an unexpected delight on the sushi. A fabulous menu of fresh fish and unique combinations that will keep you coming back all the time.
Excellent meal. We enjoyed the Napoleon, duck breast salad, and mini-omakase no. 9 (8 pieces nigiri + 1 roll), followed by some additional pieces of walu, sea bass, Arctic char nigiri and another roll. Arrived early for dinner before Kennedy Center evening. Easy walk to shuttle at Foggy Bottom.
Great menu - lots of options
Waitstaff very helpful in making choices
Everything was great! Very happy, will be back!
This is an excellence restaurant: service, quality of food and variety are very good. I really recommend it.
I had a great time there with friends at the restaurant. Food was amazing customer service was outstanding. When I go back the DC I well definitely return
Great omakase! Lots of food and great quality!
Our waiter Haris was excellent! He was very nice, informative and pretty funny! Food was awesome! The clam tempura and Asian short ribs were a great starter and the sushi was delish!! We had a great time!!
Overrated. Decent and predictable but sadly not what I was expecting. Overall, the pieces of sushi are on the small side, but fairly fresh tasting; service was meh.
Regarding ambiance, we sat at the bar and I think they could refresh or clean up the glass enclosure housing the fish. It looks used and very dated and not optically nice to look at while you're trying to eat raw fish.
I ordered the "unlimited" omakase option. Regrettable. First off, shame on me for not asking about what "unlimited" meant or the pricing. On the menu, it lists three options - somewhat confusing to me or deceptive. They list it as $80 / $100 unlimited. I assumed the $100 was for the unlimited option. Sadly no. "Unlimited" means he just keeps serving you until you say uncle. When I got the bill, all they did was just charge me for every individual piece the "chef" served me. Shame on me for not asking before I ordered. Shame, shame, shame.
As for the sushi, it was such a disappointing experience...all I got were items off the sushi menu - one by one. I understand in Japanese omakase means "leave it up to you" but to simply go down what's listed on the menu one by one? Dang, not worth it. Again, the size of each piece of sushi didn't reconcile with the price charged.
Fabulous food, amazing service in a small, quiet setting!
The worst sushi ever!!
I was looking for a great sushi place in DMV area and made the reservation based on the Openable reviews, but unfortunately our experience was shocking!!
Ordered three dishes: 1) Baby Octopus, 2) soft shell crap roll, 3) shrimp tempura roll.
1)Baby Octopus was really tasty and the price was OK!
2) Baby Octopus roll was a ......!! 4 pieces, $15, and was all rice!!!!Two small pieces of crab shell were out of two of the rolls but totally tasteless!!! It came without wasabi, so even with the soy souse it was just a piece of tasteless rice!!!
3) Shrimp temporary, 6 pieces, $14 or $12, had some shrimp tempura in it, but again not tasty at all!! Filled with too much rice, served without wasabi, and tasteless.
All the time there, I was asking my self where are those 5 star reviews from and why?! But anyway, we ended up paying $60-70 and decided to go to another place to have a real sushi and we did and the food was incomparable!!
SO GOOD. For real.
Our waiter was fantastic, recommended various things when asked, not just "everything is good." He was attentive, focused, read the crowd and was very polite. Happy to go back!
Sushi was super fresh. Varied menu. Excellent service.
Amazing food. Great sake mojito! High quality sushi, sashimi. Hanger steak dish was fantastic. Our waiter was helpful, attentive and had a great, friendly personality.
Beats out the others that you’re told are the best.
