Fantastic night

We visited Byron for my 40th and had my birthday dinner at Karkalla on a recommendation from some friends who live locally. We were not disappointed!! Very unique menu, and every dish we ordered was delicate and delicious. Can’t wait to come back and try more of the menu. Highly recommend.

Food was really good, however we felt that they could have created some really unique dishes rather than playing a safe menu with a couple of "native" ingredients.

We can’t rate Karkalla highly enough. Innovative food that ticked all the boxes for us as foodies with a desire for delicious but healthy options, that also tailors to our food sensitivities.
The staff were happy and attentive, nothing was too much trouble. The atmosphere ..vibrant and trendy, yet relaxed and unpretentious. Limited tables make it feel intimate and special.

We loved the cured ocean trout and Karkalla market fish curry. Pleeeassse keep the school prawns special on the menu! Devine!

A beautiful restaurant that has a real focus on native ingredients, putting together dishes with Indigenous flavours in the most delicious way. The staff are all wonderful and friendly, and it’s evident how much passion the owner has for showcasing local produce and ensuring her customers have an enjoyable experience. Highly recommend to pay this place a visit!

The food here is beautifully prepared and considered. The ambience thoughtful and comfortable. We had the seafood platter which was incredible - particularly the balmain bugs and accompaniment sauces that introduced native ingredients to us.

Everything we had was delicious.
Will be back for sure.

Delicious and interesting food in a stylish atmosphere and friendly service. Good air flow and social distancing which we appreciated. We loved it so much we’re back in a couple of days with friends.

Unexpected and interesting menu. Amazing flavours. The passion for food, unique and supporting local producers is evident in every dish and backed up with presentation by the the host and staff. Can't wait to go again.

We went for a birthday treat and found the food, the service and the ambience to be very enjoyable. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food menue had limited but good choices and was filling. I would prefer the music to be turned down a little.

Great location, relaxed atmosphere friendly staff and wonderful tasting and presented food. Well worth getting a booking if you can ;)

Brilliant and unique use of local indigenous ingredients to create a modern Australian menu. Thoughtful and delicate balance of flavours across all the courses we chose. There are many fantastic culinary experiences in Byron and we tried them all but Karkalla deserve to be supported for creating a menu that makes the local produce the star of the show. Looking forwards to our next visit !!

Have been to Karkalla for breakfast and dinner now. So good! Delish food - love the macadamia hummus and the hot cakes! Will continue to come back here!

The food is delicious and different. It was so good to have dishes that used a variety of Australian ingredients. The service is relaxed & friendly.

Native bush foods harmoniously melded with other local fresh produce. Add to this attentive, personalised service and you have a recipe for a very enjoyable culinary experience.

Great casual dining experience with tasty share plates so you can try a bit of everything! You can tell the produce is farm to table with the tomatoes looking like they came straight from the garden. The prawns and gnocchi was a highlight that went great with the macadamia hummus and freshly baked bread with olive oil. The cocktails were great too!

The warm welcome from Mindy is delightful. Native ingredients used cleverly throughout the menu make for delicious flavours. We loved every dish. The margaritas were fabulous too. Definitely returning before our holidays end.

Really genuine and welcoming service team, great food from a wonderful indigenous chef who uses her skills to perfection and giving a touch of indigenous tradition to her dishes, and a fabulous bartender who mixes amazing cocktails! Definitely recommended when in Byron.

Very disappointed with our dinner. The starter of roti stuffed with saltbush was stodgy. The gnocchi with prawns was very oily and contained hardly any prawns. The salad was too salty. The hostess was offhand. In addition waitress walked pasted our table a number of times and despite it containing empty wine glasses she did not ask if we would like another drink. Left the restaurant feeling hungry and ripped off.

The halloumi was delicious. The calamari were fine. The stuffed roti was underwhelming, under seasoned and we could not taste the saltbush. The venue is pretty and the ambience is pleasant. Our cocktails were good.
I’d return for a drink and carefully chosen food.

One of the best meals my wife and I have enjoyed in a long time...every course from the iced native mint tea to the damper, macadamia hummus, salt and pepperberry calamari, grilled prawn, and Karkalla curry was outstanding. Our only regret...no room left for dessert!

A really interesting dinner menu, well presented and very tasty food. Service was friendly first class. Give it a try for sure.

Erm. Bizarre. Booked via open table for a lunch even confirmed and received a confirmation text. Battled the traffic to be there on time only to find restaurant shut. Boo. Not a great experience.

This place is a must do. Food is great and very different to the rest of the menus around the area. Local produce, great flavours - just awesome. Staff are super friendly. Just love this place
