Juniper & Ivy
Unique food! loved the spot prawns and the hiking with the in laws drink
I was extremely excited to finally try this place out and I'm glad I did! Truly an amazing experience.
Valet - was a big plus, affordable and convenient - $8 and they ask that you pay immediately.
Front Desk - this was the only downer of my amazing experience.. not sure, if it was bad timing or what.. we weren't greeted very warmly.. I'm really big about first impressions and a smile goes a long way.
Cool, trendy ambience- our reservation was at 730pm on a sat.. attire ranged from men in shorts, button ups and blazers to leather jackets and women in skinny jeans to midi dresses and Chanel. Our server was great! She was friendly, courteous, and provided great recommendations (made up for front desk).
The menu changes - so I was a little bummed that there were no deviled eggs.. the menu is broken down by bites, pantry, small plates, plates, etc..
For the bites, our party of two had the Halibut Handroll - OMG!! This was seriously an absolute delight. It is YUZU/avocado/halibut and a mint leaf ?- seriously all kinds of amazing feels! We had the yellowtail tostada - it was nice and crisp! We also ordered the steamed bun - our least favorite .. but still good.
From the pantry, we had the buttermilk biscuit with smoked salt (This was so worth it! ) and for the small plates the oysters and pearls which was great presentation and just okay to me and the PRAWNS - if available you must must get the Prawns - great portion to share, prawns are split in half and so tasty!
For our main plates - we had the Jorge 34 oz steak for two - it's NY with a piece of rib eye and onion rings..
I had the sea bass w curry - it truly is in a curry form served in a bowl. It was good - but we obviously ordered way too much.. so I couldn't enjoy it as much. Oh, if your sensitive to fish sauce smells- don't order this..
This place is definitely an experience, better than most fine dining in San Diego, in my opinion. You can just go for cocktails and tapas or a whole feast like us.
The service was some of the best I've ever had. The food was well thought out and worked very well together along with the recommended drinks. Beautiful and unique interior.
Our server was very helpful finding out from the chef what dishes would need modifications or which ones to avoid because of our food allergies.
My husband ordered the Sea Bass which had an interesting presentation in a delicate curry sauce. It was very good. I however was very disappointed with my $68 New York steak. I expect marbling in a good steak but not gristle. There also lack the steak flavor I would expect from a dry aged steak.
Finally I did mention to the server that I was not happy with the steak expecting a visit from the manager but that did not happen. The manager did stop by to deliver a glass of port we ordered but never asked about our meal. I think that was the most disappointing.
The Spot Prawns were delicious and the noise levels were much better than most restaurants.
Great spot in SD. We had a later reservation, so they were out of most items on the menu ( a little disappointing ) but everything we did get was delicious.
Were able to accommodate a dairy allergy, excellent service delicious food!
Incredible flavors, wine and cocktail selections
Love the staff, normally love the food my current menu was not my favorite. Pretty loud and hard to talk.
Amazing. Dry aged steak shared. Silly biscuit is so yummy! Other bites were great as well. It's our go to restaurant for special occasions. J and I always WOWS us.
The staff was very informative and polite. This was event better than the first time I visited.
Exceptional!!! Halibut handrolls to die for !!!
Great service!! A must ...
Food was exceptional. We felt a bit crowded, though they did reseat us from a 2top next to the concrete wall to a booth 2tap. We'll be back.
Not my favorite. The service was amazing and the atmosphere was nice. But the dishes were tasty but tiny. It felt like you got a table spoon of actual food and some garnish. The only outstanding dish we had was the BBQ carrots but the duck ham.... that was a joke. four shavings of ham was not even worth providing a fork for.
I brought my visiting Singaporean financier nephew who eats at a lot of high end places around the world, hoping it would be ok. I've been disappointed in other high end restaurants before. But I was so pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food and also the charm and friendliness of the service. My guest wolfed down the food and we thoroughly enjoyed the meal. My only quibble is it's hard to know how much food to order - so many size plates - bites, small plates, entrees. Will certainly be back.
We had a good experience there, but I expected better. We shared seven small plates and wasn't really wowed with anything. Food was good, but not great.
Had a wonderful experience at Juniper & Ivy, from check-in to food/beverage. Will be back.
The food and cocktails are outstanding, the staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is perfect for a nice dinner for 2.
Probably one of the best meals I've had in years. I last ate at Juniper and Ivy two years ago and left wondering what all the hype was about. I don't know what has changed (chef?) but the food was next level. Just super inventive but not complicated. We had the prawns, lamb, oysters with the fantastic jalapeno ice cream on top, the squash blossom and the too die for sea urchin uni. Only complaint would be that the didn't serve anything with the ceviche to scoop it up. That was a head scratcher.
The service was exceptional too. Just an overall great experience and we won't wait this long again between visits.
El lugar muy agradable, pero la comida no fue de mi agrado!
Food was amazing! This place never disappoints. I recommend ordering a bunch of food and sharing it.
Food was great, drinks were great, and our experiences were great :). Great place for a date night :)
Our favorite place to eat in San Diego. Fine dining with a laid back atmosphere.
The food was pretty good - except for the spatchcock chicken. It was AMAZING. The service is what put this over the top. We had Paul D as our waiter, and he was absolutely fantastic.
Food and service was great. Cocktails were overpriced and honestly just didn't taste very good. Bathroom was dirty and they were out of paper towels.
Our third or fourth visit, always for a special occasion, and once again, it did not disappoint!
Out of everything. Way over priced.

Was very curious about the restaurant for awhile. We sat in the patio and it was very nice atmosphere. Service was great and personable. The menu was a bit difficult to navigate and decide. The food was delivered in steps, which at times were long pauses until the next plate. I wish there was more of a selection of food choices. Overall a great place, glad I got to experience. If I had to be honest, I probably would not rush back.
Great place for a date.
Excellent meal, excellent service! The plates are a little smaller, but the portion was perfect for me (halibut) vs gluttony of so much food other places. Loved the "bites" too. All the flavors were great, nice wine list.
So glad to hear it, Kim. Hope to see you back again!
We went to Juniper and Ivy to celebrate our anniversary and we had high expectations. Our expectations were not only met, they were surpassed. The food was outstanding. We ordered 1 small plate and 2 entrees. Our only regret was not ordering more food. Even though we were stuffed by the end of the meal, we did order a dessert, which was to die for. While the restaurant was a little on the noisy side, I’ve definitely been In noisier places. I cannot recommend Juniper and Ivy highly enough! It’s a must if you’re in San Diego.
Fantastic wait staff!
The experience here is unique and well worth the buzz. The dishes are incredible and unique. Well worth the money. I recommend this restaurant for anyone who is looking for something delicious and out of the ordinary.
The best food ever. An explosion of different, amazing flavors in each bite. Must go . Staff is absolutely incredible and hard working. Excellent team work.
Thanks so much for sharing!
Amazing place with great food! The sirvice is very good!
Thanks so much for sharing!
As always the food was awesome & delicious, but the service was impecable, Made our evening and celebration more memorable.
Thanks so much for celebrating with us!
Well $200 later we had to stop for burritos on the way home. We left starving. Sea urchin ceviche was interesting. The duck for two was mediocre. My drink was flat, I ordered a vodka soda. The bartender said it was the line. Our waitress was awesome, but it was so loud we couldn’t hear her or her us. Next time we’ll save the money and eat at crack shack next door.
Sorry to hear that you left feeling unsatisfied. If you do choose to come back, please just let us know your hunger level, likes and dislikes, so we can recommend the best and most affordable approach to your meal! That said, if you do head next door to our sister restaurant, we'd be okay with that, too :)
Amazing like Always! This place always delivers.
Thanks for sharing, and hope to see you again soon!
The quality has gone down over the years as the price has gone up. The menu sounds wonderful but more dishes disappointed than did not.
I'm so sorry to hear you feel that way, Tom! Over the years, we have continued to evolve our technique and offerings to give guests a new menu each time they visit. That said, we also strive for consistency--in service, product, quality and taste--so I'm sorry to hear that you think things have changed. We do change our menu daily, so I hope that you'll consider joining us again in the future to try something new.
Went for our anniversary, had a great time! We got the whole butter prawns and the whole duck, both delicious but very rich. Their bread is so yummy, had to have seconds. Wonderful cocktails- Hiking with the in laws is super tasty yet very strong! The salted caramel brownie is literally the best ice cream I have ever eaten in a restaurant - wanted a pint to take home!
Thank you for including us in your special evening! So glad you got to try the duck--that's a recent personal favorite, too. We'll put in a good word with the kitchen to start packaging up their ice cream ;-)
