Juniper & Ivy
Excellent all around
We came for a quick getaway from LA. Booked a table in advance for this restaurant and we were amazed by the overall quality and experience of Juniper & Ivy. The only thing we didn’t like: we couldn’t taste it all! We will be back soon.
Fantastic food! We will be back!
I came in for my bachelor party and from the moment we where sat I was very impressed. Being a chef and from the industry it was so nice to be on the other side of the table. Are server was outstanding from start to finish. The food was absolutely beautiful and fresh. The attention to detail from the food to service to atmosphere was one of the best food experiences I have had. I will definitely be coming back every time I come to SD. Thank you guys again!
Amazing place to spend an anniversary dinner! The yodel dessert was incredible to watch and eat!
We had a lovely meal with friends. Service was very good and the food was excellent. The only downside was they didn’t really cater for children very well, with a limited menu for them.
This was amazing. My friend and I ordered a bunch of small plates then split the back cod. Every bite was delicious and the waiter was lovely. Would go back 100%
Great food and wonderful service. Reasonably priced considering!
This was not our first visit to Juniper the ambiance was hip the food was exceptional and we left the restaurant knowing we would be back again. A great treat.
Great food and ambience. Would be a good romantic spot for a date. If sitting outside, may hear some planes as it is near the airport but it wasn’t a huge deal.
Bad food. Took forever. Very sad!
We went for our 5th anniversary and since I mentioned that when I booked a reservation, they made sure we had the BEST experience. We got seated at a table off to the side, we had an exceptional server, we had the sommelier come spend some time going over the wine list, the food was delicious, and they even treated us to an unexpected free dessert!
Food was outstanding! Unique dishes with amazing flavors. Staff were impeccable, kind and true professionals. Would definitely return.
Great dining experience
We enjoy the consistency of great food and service. We were celebrating a birthday and had a wonderful time.
Gathering with good friends
Amazing food! The staff was really nice!!
Awesome concept of bites! Able to many different things. Would have been great if the dessert was the same way😁
Was honestly one of the worst meals I’ve ever had. The food was spiced but not flavorful. We were seated in a basically empty restaurant behind a screaming baby for our whole meal. The hostess should have recognized this and moved us. Our waiter was very difficult to understand and walked away from me as I was still talking. For all of the hype I had an awful experience.
Fabulous. Don’t miss this restaurant. Innovative foods great service and in general a fabulous experience. Menu has too many options. Let your server guide you. You won’t be sorry !
The food was awesome! Everything was awesome, but especially the duck.
Our server was loud. Our server consistently interrupted our conversations, talked over us, talked too fast, and interjected his experiences every chance he got. I tipped him 17% and later regretted it.
The whole dining experience was just plain loud. You apparently want me to use the word "energetic" but for me, "raucous" and "harsh" are more accurate. My three guests and I struggled mightily to converse normally. And it seemed like just when we got a bit of a conversation going, here came our server...loudly.
My friends who spend over $100-per-person-per-meal want to be able to converse without having to yell. For that reason, I will not recommend Juniper & Ivy.
Celebrated my birthday at Juniper and Ivy. I started our meal with a delicious Angel's Envy rye cocktail. Their bar does an amazing job of crafting great cocktails and both my husband and I enjoyed our cocktails. For dinner, we stuck to the Bites menu and enjoyed the squash blossom, the yellowtail on tostada and the carpaccio on sourdough. All were delicious. We also ordered the grilled peach on ricotta. While delicius, the ginger slightly overwhelmed the dish. We ordered a bottle of Pouilly Fume, which unfortunately was selected incorrectly in the wine cellar (we ended up with the house version). The staff was very accomodating and the dining room manager happily gave us each a glass of the Krug Champagne (WOW). For dessert, we tried the house made fudgesicle with granola. I would definitely return!
Brilliant and creative food that is highly flavorful and satisfying. Great wine list with a super selection of varietals and price points. Excellent service that acts like a guide and not a salesperson. One of the best dining experiences I have had in ages!
For a restaurant with such a high public profile, we were so pleased that Juniper & Ivy more than lived up to its reputation. The service, while not formal (in keeping with the casual elegance of the place) accomplished everything that a black tied staff in fancier restaurant could. Attentive, providing things we needed without interrupting conversation and asking "if everything was OK". Informative about menu and wine choices. Really top notch service from our waiter as well as the "delivery" guys and girls.
Every dish we tasted was prepared from top notch ingredients and rocked some interesting flavors. But a few minor quibbles. The fried squash blossom bite should be described as deep fried - we were surprised by the heavy batter covering. Fried squash blossoms in Mediterranean countries are stuffed with similar cheeses, dusted in cornmeal or flour and quickly pan fried, so no heavy dough. And the "Monterey abalone" dish was slightly disappointing as the main ingredient seemed overcooked. We also felt several of the 14 dishes we tried were under-sauced or under-accessorized. This feeling was reinforced when we read a magazine review just days later and saw photos of some of the very same dishes. The plates in the photos were twice as full as what we received. And the desserts were an unexpected highlight. None were too sweet - all reflected the natural flavors of the ingredients. Despite our minor quibbles with certain dishes, the food overall was a wonderful adventure. We will be back
You won’t be disappointed!
Enjoyed our dinner as the food phenomenal. With each small plate ordered the presentation was beautiful, perfectly paired flavors and our best dish of the evening was the Grilled Peaches amazing flavors. We commend the chefs on a wonderful food experience and our server was fantastic to work with as was all of the staff, very attentive even though it was a full house.
Couple of the appetizers were great. But others were just good. Nothing super great.
Simply without a flaw...
...a top 10 for me
Food was just amazing. The place is wonderful.
Amazing experience overall. Sat outside on the patio. Overhead planes made conversations halt instantly but loved the outdoor space otherwise. Service was great and food was phenomenal. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a great meal for any occasion.
Food was delicious and tasty. Small bites ideal to really get the flavors. We got recommendations from our server and liked what we got... menu changes everyday but recommend charred corn dish, spicy tuna roll...heirloom tomato/burrata dish was amazing. We also had a shrimp dish covered in butter and corn.
We sat outside and honestly it was loud because of the airplanes passing by which seems to be normal as it’s San Diego and the airport is downtown...
I can’t wait to go back to San Diego to go back to Juniper and Ivy!!!!
Menu selections are such an unusual blend of ingredients and taste. One of the best restaurants I have been to.
This was absolutely perfect!! Everything was beyond our expectations; the service, the food, the drinks. Don’t think twice about coming here. This has been by far the best experience I have ever had with the best food I have ever had. They really made our anniversary special.
Consistently exceptional food and service. Small bites are more than just a bite, they are an explosion of flavor and worth the experience. I miss the deconstructed deviled eggs, but the macaron was a pleasant replacement.
You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, and the chef does a great job accommodating a gluten allergy
We enjoyed our special day with amazing service, and delicious food in the elegant environment of Juniper & Ivy! I would definitely go back and recommend to my friends! Cured king salmon and chocolate&banana were my favorites :)
Service was great, our server checked on us multiple times and made sure to ask how we liked every dish. Food was very well-done from a technical aspect but not as enjoyable or tasty as I would have liked considering the slightly higher prices compared to other restaurants in the area.
Had the best time! Celebrated our anniversary here. Of course the food was great but the staff made it even better. Would go again in a heartbeat
Went there for a birthday dinner. Unfortunately the kitchen had run out of some menu items by the time we put in our order, but with the exception of the BLT bite we really loved the food. Highlights were the yellowtail tostada and the wagyu short rib. Perhaps one of the best cocktails I've had out in San Diego as well!
