Javier's - La Jolla
Beautifully designed restaurant; service was impeccable; food delicious. Very, very good.
Josh and his staff provided an excellent experience. The food, drinks and service were all five stars. I have dined at the Newport Beach Javier's several times and received the same top notch service and food in La Jolla.
Loved the vibe of this restaurant and the food was great
Even with our reservation we had to wait 20-25 mins for our table.
I absolutely LOVE this place! I can't think of a better place to dine, and mingle with the "see and be scene" crowd. I really liked the service as well. Everyone was super nice and made excellent recommendations as far as food and drinks. Be sure to do the Tres Enchiladas!!! They are to dine for! :)
Best Authentic Mexican Food, the Guava Margarita highly recommend it.
Loved the La Jolla location. Have been to theaters in Orange County, CA
Unless you want to scream to be heard at the person sitting next to you and across from you, we can't recommended JAVIER'S. As for the two families sitting next to us... Who lets their four kids jump up and down on a forty foot long bench seating, disturbing everyone around them? Unruly children do not belong in a restaurant where enchlades are $40. !!!
No draft beers. Only domestic bottles. Margaritas were just ok for $15 each. Food was ok. Most of our plates needed more seasoning. Portions were decent but for the price you’d expect more. House salsa was good. Ask for the habanero one if you require more heat.
Great meal and ambiance.
We had lunch here on a weekday and it was awesome. Service was great and they did not rush us to leave the table. Food was great and everyone enjoyed the meal and cocktails. You could actually talk and have a nice conversation without yelling. Have been here for dinner and noise level was crazy loud!
I don’t usually leave reviews but today I will due to the underwhelming experience we had. Our reservation was at 8:30pm and we arrived early at 8:00pm. When I went to check-in part of our party was there to which the host said we can only sit you when the whole party is here. 10 mins later when the whole party was there I went back to check-in with the hostess who was pretty dismissive and she said we had to wait until 8:30 pm. I agreed and said we’d wait at the bar. Fast-forward to 8:50pm NO ONE had called us to sit or told us they were running late. I finally went to check with a different hostess and she said “OMG— I’m so sorry we had marked you as ‘incomplete party’ and that’s why we hadn’t sat you.” As I recalled my encounter above, I MOST DEFINITELY let the other rude hostess know we were there. After the second hostess apologetically sat us down, service was slow and to be honest, everything else fell in deaf ears... we already had a bad taste in our mouth with the bad service.
For background, I worked as a hostess several years and customer service is everything! Hoping this is a one-time incident for the restaurant because it leaves clients under appreciated and not wanting to come back.
I love the food, the alcohol is wonderful, the wait staff are excellent, the indoor/outdoor is very appealing, HOWEVER, the noise level is so high that I can't hear the person next to me in a normal conversation. So if you are LOOKING for input, please have a section behind glass that is quieter and less loud music. It is not difficult to build some kind of baffle or glass partition for those of us who still practice the art of conversation.....and yes, you may call me........or email me..... thank you and keep up the great work except of that one thing I mentioned............thank you for (I hope) reading! Mike
First time at the La Jolla location! Great spot!
Some of the best Mexican food I have eaten - and I LOVE Mexican food. They have a lengthy menu of tequilas. I would suggest having a price list. I do not normally order tequila but wanted to try a high-end sipping tequila. The waitress was kind in explaining the various types to me, but it's no fun to ask the waitress to then provide you specific pricing for fear you are going to order a $75 shot. We were there for lunch on a Sunday and it was not crowded. Everything was perfect!
The wait time even with reservations was extreme and it wasn’t that busy. The experience from the moment we walked in until we left was horrible and management was not accommodating.
We enjoyed our evening at Javier's. Food was delicious. Probably my only complaint is they could have told us how small the ceviche serving would be. We would have ordered 2, as we were sharing between 4. Service was excellent and we had a fun time. The noise level makes it hard to hear, but it seemed to subside as the evening progressed.
We love taking guests here if they want to be in a vibrant, people-watching, fun environment. The food, cocktails, and service are very good! The skirt steak is my favorite!
Ambiance!!! The interior or this place is beautiful. I felt like we had escaped to another country.
The service was fantastic and the food was delicious! Definitely going to be back!
We celebrated our 22nd Anniversary and it easy was AMAZING! Great food service and ambiance ⭐️
Good food, good drinks, good service. I would go there again, anytime........................,..........
First time I didn’t like my food. Ordered crispy beef tacos; last time it was ground beef this time shredded. I like both but would like to know what I’m getting. Meat was horrifically dry, nearly choked on it. Tacos also too overstuffed and impossible to eat. Server should have noticed I barely touched them. It was a business lunch and the server was unable to determine when not to interrupt our discussion which became annoying, particularly because the restaurant was empty.
Some tough calls when awarding stars ...sometimes the mark was between the stars. Impressive visuals -facility and staff- no doubt - I'd say spectacular. Front desk was cordial and helpful. Waitstaff seemed knowledgeable and attentive - at first. Waiter sightings got pretty sparse as the meal progressed.
They did pick at a pet peeve: Not all entrees were served at the same time. Almost 5 min passed before the last dish arrived. Of course, the taquitos came barely warm, and all the other entrees were approaching room temp. Inexcusable-ESPECIALLY at a high end place like this.
Leftovers were very good - we ate them right out of the microwave, piping hot.
The Trio Ceviche at $55 is a steep price [four shared as appetizer] but each of the Trio was delicious
The complimentary birthday [#95] flan was superior.
And really, something needs to be done about the noise level, esp from LJVDrive. It was difficult to hear across a table of four, weekday, midday. And it's not construction of the UCSD trolley line.
This place definitely needs work to actually achieve the lofty status in which they see themselves.
Enjoyed Javier’s. Service was slow, but the food and ambiance were good.
Great meal and great service. For those people who love Mexican but would like it elevated behind the standard fare.
The decor is gorgeous and the service was pretty good. However, for the price the food was unremarkable. I can get much better Mexican food in other places.
great food and service. It is extremely loud but fun
The server messed up my wife's order. She order the Cabo Azul and got a salad instead. Two completely different plates. The service was quick and the food was really good. The Guacamole was excellent. I asked for a booth outside and got one. Everyone was very nice. Inside it can get very loud. At night it has a nightclub vibe so if your not into that come late afternoon or earlier. The margarita was ok but I believe the Javiers in Vegas had better ones. Also I love the tamales at the Javiers in Irvine, they DO NOT have it at the La Jolla site. If you like Enchiladas you'll love the place, if you don't then you might want to pass. Not much variety on the menu. I great place to celebrate or go on a date.
Consistently great food and drinks! Party atmosphere and festive surroundings.
Loved it great place i keep going back
We went to celebrate our anniversary. We were greeted nicely and seating early for our reservation. The food was excellent and the service was outstanding! We enjoyed the experience very much.
Our only issue was locating the entrance to the restaurant. I would definitely recommend utilizing the valet parking entrance right in front. There did not seem to be an easy way to get the the entrance besides the valet entrance.
We will dine here again.
Delicious and good service and atmosphere
We were celebrating a 50th birthday and from the minute we sat down the waiter rushed us terribly. Also there was never any mention about us celebrating a birthday which was very disappointing considering I had included that in my reservation.
For a high end restaurant would have expected more from the food. My wife salad was just OK, had no flavor. My fajitas were good but was served with store bought tortillas. Also, they need to be more aware of peanut allergies now more common. Although it was in the fine print, my daughter had a reaction from the vanilla ice cream that she ordered that had peanuts but was not aware.
Fun experience. Great table. We like fast service but this was a little too fast overall great!
I specifically requested my food without a certain ingredient because of a food allergy. My meal came with the ingredient. It took 30 minutes to bring out another dish. By that time my guest ate his meal because it was getting cold. The manager refused to comp my meal or even offer a discount or a complimentary dessert. Rather he offered to give me his card so that the next time I am there he will provide “excellent service.” I declined his offer because excellent service should not have to be requested. I canceled a reservation for 17 people for a client dinner.
Mother In Laws Birthday!
We had a good experience. The food was excellent but expensive. It's a very noisy place and it's hard to carry on a conversation. Turning down the music volume would help some but overall the acoustics in the restaurant are poor.
