A seed-to-fork dining experience inside Southall Farm + Inn in Franklin Tennessee.

Southall’s signature restaurant, January, brings the spirit of our pursuits across the farm together – the mindfulness that drives biodiversity in what we produce, a reverence for the cycle of life that inspires sustainability, and our desire to share the bounty.

The January experience, with its thoughtful creativity and leisurely, high-touch nature, bends with the harvest, promising a novel and unexpected meal with each visit.

It is, quite simply, the culmination of our dream…dinner, as it should be.

    The most delicious meal we’ve had in Franklin. From the warm bread & surprise starter to the short ribs and zucchini burrata to the espresso & hazelnut dessert. It was delightful. Barrett did a great job explaining every dish & making us feel welcome.

    This is the second time we’ve been to January and it hasn’t disappointed either time. The staff is pretty attentive, knowledgeable and courteous. The food is fantastic, some of the best in the area and the value for quality of food, ambiance and service is well matched and better than arguably any restaurant in the Franklin area. Highly recommended.

    PHENOMENAL. Truly. First and foremost, the drive up to the inn is beautiful, and the service all the way from valet, the front desk, to the restaurant staff in its entirety was top tier. We sat down and were blown away with the ambiance, and loved the open layout of the kitchen. You're able to see everyone working diligently to prepare your food, and the main chef looks over every dish and gives the okay before allowing it to leave the kitchen. Our server, Barrett was great. Seeing how it was our first time dining here, he went in depth and in great detail about the menu, answered our questions with ease and gave fantastic recommendations. We ordered the bread, and we were told we were going to get the last 2 rolls (which is half of the normal amount), but they wanted us to be able to try it, so they said it's on them! Their butter has honey in it, specifically from the bees on their farm. From there, we had the lobster. I was a little nervous initially because I'm not a lobster fan, but I was blown away by the presentation & overall flavor. Finally, we had shared the dry aged ribeye, which came in different sizes, but we opted for the 22oz. I will say, it's $8/oz, so the price definitely is expensive but the quality is unmatched. You're going to spend some money here, but the service all around is well worth it. Such a great first time farm to table experience. We'll be back.

    Gorgeous setting with open meadow vista. Service was excellent - just the right balance of knowledgeable and not at all stuffy. Wish I could remember our lovely waitress's name. The hostess was very accommodating in changing our table to outdoors. Only problems were a lot of flies buzzing around us and our food (which, of course, they had no control over) and the smoke and ashes from the fire pit blowing towards us all evening. So beware outdoor dining on a windy night. The food was very good to excellent - our favorite dish being the zucchini.

    You'll won't want to eat anywhere else after you leave. My partner and I have not stopped talking about January's menu since we left three days ago. Food tastes weak in comparison to the unforgettable flavors the chef created. The food was the freshest you could get. It was surprisingly busy for a Thursday, and a little louder than we expected it to be, but there's nothing that can be done about that. It makes sense people want to eat here. John and Barrett were wonderful and knowledgeable about the menu, what's in each dish, and created a lovely experience. We're already talking about going back to January once we save up again

    Absolutely perfect. They waiters & waitresses were absolutely perfect, and the food was spectacular. Dominica, John, and Bo were all absolutely outstanding. I highly recommend January to anyone and will be back for many meals.

    I have eaten in many fine restaurants and I have to say the prices are way out of line. Cocktails are $20 each, steak is $8 an ounce and bread service is minimum $10 depending on type We ordered the Parker Rolls and after waiting for them for over 30 minutes, and seeing them just sitting on the counter,we cancelled them. we had a relatively light supper and the bill was still over $100 a person. the food was good , not great, especially for what they were charging.

    This was a last-minute dinner decision and we lucked out with a reservation (we’re local, not staying at the Inn). We were able to sit outside overlooking the gorgeous property, on a night when the weather was perfect. Dinner was incredible. If I had to do it over, for the two of us, the Parker rolls, two sides, and 1 entree would have been the right amount of food. We splurged on cocktails, 2 entrees and 1 dessert also and were hurting after! Everything was delicious though and the ambience was relaxing. We took our time and were there for awhile, so if you go, plan it as an entire evening to relax and enjoy the food, service, and atmosphere. You won’t be disappointed.

    My wife and I had dinner at January last night and it was a fantastic experience. Our server – Barrett – was incredibly welcoming and worked with the chef to decide on our items for the evening #JustTrustTheChef. The Crudo was ridiculously good, followed by the dry age steak which was one of the more flavorful we've ever had. We had wine parings with each course that only added to the experience. Overall, definitely worth experiencing a meal at January.
