Amazing dinner with even better service. Our only downfall was how cold it was outside -- we knew this going into it though and the staff did everything to accommodate from seat warmers to blankets to heaters.

Amazing food and an impressive spread for restaurant week. We went expecting the typical three course meal, but they included way more food per course than we could have imagined. Everything was delicious. We can’t wait to go back.
SUPERB in every aspect! Firepits, headlamps, and heated cushions kept us toasty warm in freezing outdoor January weather to fully enjoy the fabulous food, drink, and service. (Extra shout to our marvelous waiter!) I rank this near, if not the, top restaurant experience in 30 years in DC. And, it was January restaurant week...not a time I usually equate to superlative restaurant quality.

The patio dining was outstanding. We were outdoors but very comfortable. The waiter was fantastic. We enjoyed his wine recommendations. We had the family style tasting selection which was fantastic. We will dine at Iron Gate again
Another lovely dining experience at one of my all-time, favorite DC establishments! Excellent service and food was surprising, delicious and well-portioned (I couldn’t even eat all of mine). We really appreciated their attention to COVID-safe dining practices (vaccination required, well-distanced tables, all staff wearing masks, ample hand sanitizer), and the sweet, personalized card at the end of our night.
Highly recommend. The food and service were excellent! I can't wait until it's nice enough to sit outside on the patio.

Dined here to celebrate my husband's birthday...haven't been in several years. We were warmly welcomed by everyone, especially our waiter, John, who was superb. The tableside firepits and seat warmers kept us as cozy as could be expected in the patio on a January night. Food and wine were excellent. We ordered duck leg and yellow fin tuna off the small plate menu and all was beautifully presented and delicious. John brought my husband a yummy cake pop as a complementary birthday treat. He also left him a sweet thank you card wishing him a very happy birthday. All the little touches were so thoughtful and well done. We will be back, no question. Highly recommended.
This was absolutely spectacular. We ordered the Chef’s family table and each dish was better than the one before. Standouts in the first course were mushroom arancini and baked feta over beets with mint. The second course duck was perfectly cooked-melt in your mouth. The accompanying mushroom gnocci was creamy and delicious. The desserts-chocolate semifreddo, cookies and biscotti were perfectly portioned and impossible not to eat. Our server was attentive, helpful and personable without hovering. Definitely the best meal/experience I have had in two years!
This hidden gem on N Street is a must do-over. New York City-esque restaurant fine dining in DC. It’s like you’ve been transported to a different time with the moody lighting, red leather banquettes and a blazing fire. The food was signature for sure. From the focaccia to the duck leg, each dish was a surprising gastronomic experience. John, our waiter, was extremely wine-knowledgeable and a great chat. Super impressed! Loved every bit of it.
Wonderful menu of Italian and Greek gourmet items. The Foccacia bread was the best we’ve ever had. The duck entree was done perfectly and accompanied bu tast complementary greens. Our waiter was very attentive and made us feel special.
Delicious food on a warm and covered outdoor patio - so perfect for these times! The brunch menu is small, but the attention to detail is amazing - our olive oil-fried eggs were simply fabulous.

Dining out on the covered patio with heaters is the way to go. Outstanding ambiance, service and overall experience. The wine selection is excellent. The mix of flavors and approaches makes this a place to come back to on a frequent basis.

Have lived in DC 30 years. We used to come to Iron Gate a bunch. Then they went super meat-heavy a few years ago and we only came here for drinks (we don't eat meat) — and we LOVE their bar. Now, Staying at the Mayflower for a staycation and checked out the menu. Called the restaurant to specifically note that we don't eat meat and ensure there are options (the fish-based Feast of the Seven Fishes was still showing on OpenTable). Matthew who answered the phone said absolutely.
Came to the restaurant. Our waiter John was delightful and very engaging. We expressly told him we don't eat meat but fish was fine. He specifically told us that the entire first course of the farmers table was all non-meat items and we were fine. The back waiters brought all of the 7-8 items in the first course. All *seemed* to be fish oriented.
When they came to remove the plates after we had eaten everything, we asked in detail about a couple of the dishes. The woman said one was pork. When I questioned her aggressively, she said yes it was some sort of pork fritter or something.
So my husband and I were literally three days shy of 10 years with no meat. January 1, 2012.
Staggering to me that a restaurant of the supposed quality of Iron Gate could have made such a horrific error. 9 years, 362 days without meat and the Iron Gate ruined our health conscious choice through carelessness and inattentiveness.
We will NEVER again go here. If you are vegetarian or gluten free or any other type of food-sensitive situation, we cannot warn you off enough. This is beyond unacceptable.
Finally, I know the restaurant feels bad -- but there is literally nothing they can do. My stomach feels like garbage 30 minutes after I ate a pork fritter (or something) -- and this is entirely on Iron Gate. They seriously f-ed up tonight -- something no high-end restaurant should ever do. There is no excuse and no redemption for them. Tragedy because it is a gorgeous setting.

I went here last night with my boyfriend for his birthday, and it was such a great experience. We had the chef's table, which is a fixed three-course meal. All the dishes were explained really well so we knew what we were eating, and our server asked outright what our allergies and dietary restrictions were before any food came out. My boyfriend is not a foodie, but there were definitely a couple dishes that he could not get enough of. They also had a handwritten note at the end of the meal, and very kindly wished my boyfriend a happy birthday, which I thought was a really nice touch.
My only negative is that it was a bit cold on the patio. It was raining heavily last night, and while there was a fire pit next to our table, it wasn't enough. But the outside was very beautifully decorated and it was very romantic. Overall a really great experience, and we'll most likely come back when it's a little warmer and less rainy.
My son was home from London and Iron Gate is the first place he wanted to go. We just love it. And the outdoor seating was great since we were a little

Ambiance is perfect and the staff, from bartender to server to waiter, everybody is chill and lovely. Portions are plentiful -- get the chef's table!!!!!!
