Best Pizza Ever!
We may have found our favorite Italian spot in DC! We made a reservation for date night at 730pm and got there around 7pm. There is a parking garage right across the street so that was super convenient. When we checked in we were told they could seat us inside within a few minutes but that if we wanted outdoor seatingnit would be closer to 35 minutes. We opted for outdoor dining and ended up waiting about 45 additional minutes, but the food was well worth the wait!!
I got the lobster ravioli and my husband had the diavolo pizza- both were excellent. The diavolo definitely had a kick to it which was awesome because we both like spicy food and are often disappointed. We didn't have to add any crushed pepper because the pizza was plenty spicy on it's own.
For appetizer we ordered the brushetta and opted to add the buffalo mozzarella- for anyone wondering or pregnant, they do use pasteurized cheeses 😊. For dessert we had the tiramisu, which came out looking a bit small for 2 to share, but ended up being the perfect portion size with our coffee/cappuccino. I'm excited to come back to try more dishes- this place did not disappoint!
One downside was our waitress- she wasn't especially nice or welcoming, but not necessarily rude either- I guess after reading so many reviews about the wonderful service, I was just expecting more 🤷🏽♀️. There were definitely people around us who had more attentive waiters. Either way, we will definitely be back.
Excellent food. Sat outside, so the traffic noise was noticeable.
Service has certainly gone down hill. Server took a while to bring out beverage menu. Even water took some time to get. They brought out the wrong pizza THREE times before getting it correct. Definitely my last time dining here.
Really good. Simple. Tasty. Stylish. Just grand. Feels like Italy. Yes we can.
Every course was excellent!
From start to finish this place is a 10.
We were a little concerned about the big line but got right in. Our server Aldo was OUTSTANDING and added to our experience, recommending the best items.
We had the grilled veggie platter with the prosciutto platter, pizza and seafood and pasta. Everything was perfectly cooked and delicious.
Can’t wait to come back and try the rest of the food.
The waiter despite having his hands full during the evening shift made sure all of our needs were met. I’ve eaten here a few times before, and this ocassion was the best by far! Thank you.
Thankfully we had reservations. The place was packed...with good reason. The food was incredible! Ample portions, delicious appetizers and main dishes, including pizza that tasted just like our pizza in Rome, Italy. Staff was attentive but never rushed us. Definitely a do again on our next trip.
Wonderful Saturday afternoon lunch spot to meet up with old friends. Our waiter was attentive and patient when we were not ready to order. He did not rush us as we sat and visited with each other over our meal. The food -- excellent and authentic Italian. There is a parking garage right across the street.
I am not sure this is the best place to go in Georgetown area.
Outstanding as always! We wish we could dine there every day!
Best ingredients in DC!!! It’s amazing how good it is
Always a great dining experience!
Great Pizza, the place is really nice. The valet parking had a problem (small one) with my car but did not say, I realized the next day.
Pizza and charcuterie were delicious! Only sub par Ed the hostess who sat us at the bat snd forgot to seat us at all until we went and asked about an hour later. We had reservations we requested rooftop we were seated outside after a long delay. The waiter and the food were outstanding!
Il Canale is one of our absolute favorite restaurants! Excellence in everything! We lived in Italy for three years and this is the only venue that understands how to marry fantastic traditional cuisine with fresh magnificent ingredients! Truly, you will never regret visiting this gem of a restaurant. Thank you Il Canale!!!!
Great lunch spot. A little expensive but it IS GTown, so....it’s to be expected.
Perfect in ever way.
Best Italian restaurant in DC! I had the salmon yesterday, which was delicious and a great value at $16. Friendly service as well.
service was hit and miss. lets see how it is next time.
Packed on Sunday night of Memorial Day weekend...they were running about 30 mins behind even with reservations. We were a bit concerned about how this might impact the kitchen but food was delicious as always. We know they're known for their pizza, but the homemade paata with seafood and their lamb chops were fantastic. Under the circumstances, all the staff performed well under pressure. Kudos!
The BEST pizza & all around Italian experience!
My daughter and I had such a fun dinner at IL Canale. Our waiter. Local, was so attentive even though it was packed. We started with a large plates of marinated veggies, first but gnocchi and mushroom ravioli. Fits was great. Atmosphere fun, and heart service
The pizza was amazing by Italian standards!
Well as usual, the service and food were outstanding. Indoors doesn’t have much ambiance and the noise level is almost unbearable when it is busy. I think outdoors is the right choice!
Food and service were very good, but the place was packed (shoulder to shoulder seating) which was a little disconcerting so soon after COVID restrictions were lifted. It also created a very, very noisy atmosphere.
Place was overcrowded with no safe distance among tables. Pizza napoletana e margherita were average and my mother makes better meatballs. The pizza dough was too chewy and watery for an Italian pizza , and the spaghetti were overcooked not al dente which ruined the experience.
GF pizza is very good. The level of noise was a little bit to much for us.
One of my favorite restaurants in DC it my favorite Italian ever! Everything is delicious on the menu and from what you choose you can have a casual dinner up to a fancy dinner. All staff is welcoming and friendly. Building and facilities are always clean. I highly recommend for a date night or if you just enjoy great food.
Lunch was great - enough pizza for left-overs. Service was awesome as always. We were there during a family visit to Georgetown and Il Canale is always one of our favorite stops. Great atmosphere as well.
Terrific pizza - authentic Neopolitan. Great service. Fun atmosphere.
Wonderful evening again. Outside seating is wonderful now that construction on canal is dine. Wine and pizza. With great service. How do you go wrong.
Very good meal and overall the experience was very good. Surprised though, that everyone that made reservations, still had to wait 15-20 minutes before they were seated. Then we were asked to be completed with our meal in an hour and 15 minutes. Not the best customer service.
The staff who took care of our table was very pleasant and courteous, food as always excellent.
Enjoyed going to eat good Italian food.
This was our first time outdoor dining in a while, and the trek to DC was worth it. We had a great outdoor table and were seated shortly after our reservation time (outdoor tables cannot be reserved specifically). Our waiter, Micaele l, was phenomenal. He was funny, attentive, and made us feel relaxed and that we could truly have a non-rushed dining experience. We had calamari and fried zucchini, gnocchi, and three pizzas (Margherita, Napoli, and Italia) for four people. We probably could’ve done with just two pizzas, but so glad we had the variety (classic Margherita, the not-so-salty and briny Napoli, and the freshness of the Italia). For dessert, we shared cannoli! The food was superb and the service from Micaele was out of this world. Five stars!
The gluten free pizza crust is fabulous! We really enjoyed our meal!
Unfortunately the kitchen ignored our dietary restrictions repeatedly, even after asking us for it again during the meal.
Our plates were literally thrown in front of us, spilling food all over the floor.
Waitress tried her best, owner/Mgr came out to apologize but food delivery did not improve.
Pity, we used to enjoy it on previous occasions
It was the worst eggplant parm ever.
Great gluten free pizza!
