The food was very good and well prepared. The waitstaff was attentive however it took quite a while for our wine and after dinner bourbon to be served. They try too hard to make the restaurant fine dining, but the way food is presented is not practical. The warm crab dip was cumbersome to eat and the “bread plate” is the size of a coaster.
The service was great and everyone we encountered was very personable. The food was exceptional and all our dishes were beautifully presented. We’re looking forward to our next visit to Hunsakers!
This is FINE DINNING! Escondido should give them the key to the city. We are getting fancy in North County! The Chef is not afraid of mixing ethnic and local flavors, which results in explosively delicious creations. The food presentation is super cool and the service was great. There was something for everyone (vegan, steak eaters, adventurous dinners, etc.) I highly recommend this for those of you wanting to deviate from a typical steakhouse. I also like the fact that they still have some French inspired meals, honoring Vincent's legacy. Well done!
Great ambiance and menu items. Great place for a special occasion. The price is worth it and defines quality, flavor, and portions.
Everything is delicious. They strike the right balance between fine dining and comfortable eats. Thank you chef and staff. YUMMY
The food was amazing, however, the prices were a tad high. We sat outside and for a date night would have preferred indoors as that ambiance was better. Definitely give this place a try. The beet salad was to die for. Lots of great menu options.
Some great dishes and some that were meh. Jillian our sever was fantastic. We did think the food was overpriced.
Meeka greeted us and led us to the table….Jillian and many other staff members helped us with the menu and contributed to our overall enjoyment of the restaurant. The food was fabulous….staff engaging…overall experience….excellent!
The food was amazing, and the staff was incredible! Love this place, and will definitely be visiting again soon!
Food was excellent. Noisy outside because of the car shows on Friday night, which we were not aware of. Service was friendly but had to ask more than once before getting a second glass of wine, so maybe they were short staffed that night. Would go back.
They have updated their menu and have a much larger offering. The meal was excellent, but they have paired down the side/accompaniments a little, which does allow you to select what you want, but there is now an additional fee for some of the main courses that don't have a side with them.
The service was great and friendly!
We have been long time Vincent’s customers over the years. This past weekend we visited the reconfigured restaurant, now named Hunsaker’s.
Please note that Hunsaker’s pricing has increased from the old Vincent days. For those that are more price conscious, this may not be for you. The new menu is more in-line with the top-tier steak restaurant, which is apparently the new focus. However, the new menu higher also brings a much more imagination and creativity than you might expect. We decided to jump in with both feet to give the new menu will try and were not disappointed.
For our first course we selected the dill pickle soup and the heirloom tomato salad. The soup was fantastic, and it actually came with a fried dill pickle! The tomato salad was a good size and was seasoned with apparently some Indian spices. It wasn't “spicy hot” at all, but the flavors were out of this world. We have never had anything like this before.
For our main course my wife picked the filet mignon which was excellent. It was one of those times you could cut your filet with a fork and she said it was the best steak she had ever eaten. It was also a good-sized dish and we were actually relieved we didn’t order any sides as it would have been too much food.
I like to try more creative things on the menu and went for the corn ravioli. I can't tell you what was all in this dish, but it was unbelievable. It must have had gruyere cheese and some other things mixed in, but it is definitely a must try.
All of the desserts on the new menu are now intended to be shared by two people. We decided to try the Valrhona Chocolate Tart and were simply blown away.
So, while the price point is higher, the quality and creativity is worth the trip. We would recommend Hunsaker’s to any foodies that really appreciate a little imagination and would like to see more for their money than just meat, potatoes and a typical boring crème brulee.
We will be back and next time with friends.
Pandemic outdoor dining, street side with tunes from the O’SULLIVAN’S band which was quite pleasant. The food was amazing, wonderful ingredients artfully arranged.
Found this little gem on Open Table and it was a great experience. The ambiance was very cool and the food was tasty. We will definitely return.
Our experience was very good. Attentive service and good value for the price. I would have enjoyed dim lighting and more sophisticated music. Food was wonderful.. the lobster was perfectly cooked..not dry or overdone. The desserts were delicious, but I didn’t see the point of the blue-green food coloring in the macaroons and angel cake. It would have been just as beautiful without. (I try to avoid food additives if possible). All in all a very pleasant evening!
Food Great, professional staff, cocktails proper. Met with Chris the owner/manager. Worth every penny for a great meal and date night!
Great food and great service!!!
Loved the whole experience.
PHENOMENAL! Almost looked over this place but I’m so glad that I went with my gut. This place is absolutely amazing. From start to finish our meal was amazing. Our server Jillian went above and beyond. She was so friendly and so knowledgeable about the menu. Not just that waitress that says everything on the menu is good (even though I bet it is). She went into depth about every dish and gave great recommendations. We started with the Turkey pot pie, amazing would be amazing on thanksgiving but it’s packed with so much flavor, and the French onion soup, best I’ve ever had! Second course we got the New York strip, perfect cook and tons of amazing flavor, and the corn ravioli, after reading it I needed to try and it was the perfect amount of sweet and savory. Final course we ordered the Naughty Monkey and the presentation on that was hilarious. The chef definitely has a great sense of humor. If you are in the area you NEED to check this place.
Food is good and service excellent. We felt the food was fancier and more expensive than it needed to be.
Food portion to pricing ratio is very unbalanced. Location seems to be in between a new look leaving it to feel like it’s having an identity crisis. I was expecting a classy steak house (Ruth’s Chris/Fleming’s) and it’s not at all that. For the price, and food portions, I should of went elsewhere.
The Owner was exceptionally nice very kind and it was a first date situation and everyone was on board they were giving me the thumbs up and it ended up being a wonderful place to have dinner and I think we’re going to be coming back for anniversaries
Best dining experience I've had in a while. Such detail given to every dish. From the complementary bacon wrapped date to the spectacular Raspberry Chocolate tart, it was fantastic. Don't hesitate to order the Dill Pickle Soup. Not just fun but very good! I also had the Green Goddess salad which was the most uniquely presented salad I have ever eaten. The shrimp in my husband's Shrimp fettuccini were plump and sweet. Almost reminded me of lobster. The servers were friendly and knowledgeable. All in all a lovely evening at Hunsaker's with my husband.
My first time at Hunsakers. I was hoping it was a place we can count on for excellent food and atmosphere. I don't mind paying a high price for excellent food but in this case the food was only ok and in that respect completely overpriced.
Never been here and found it in here. The menu looked great and the food was amazing. The service was impeccable also. The only downside I’d say, is that I reserved an outdoor table that had no idea there was a classic car show going on. Lots of wild engines Harley’s revving their engines and a venerable 50s Dancehall theme, not what I was expecting.
But then again this had nothing to do with the restaurant at all, rather a normal Friday night Street event in Escondido
Food and drinks were amazing. Server was great. He was very nice and we loved everything he recommended
Where to start? As usual, the food was spectacular both in preparation and presentation. The service staff are truly exceptional. And the bartender a true treasure.
Hunsakers is fantastic! The food is amazing and their service is great! We had the yummy pineapple tarte tatin for dessert, so delicious! Truly a one of a kind dining experience at Hunsakers!
Best steak and sides in Escondido. Best wine list also.
Beef Wellington and Rack of Lamb were amazing! I did tell them that it was our anniversary, which the hostess acknowledged when we arrived, but no dessert, wine, etc from management.
Food was delicious. Loved the drink menu! I enjoyed the Cheaper than Therapy very much! My husband had their famous beef stroganoff and it didn't disappoint. I had the pork with grilled peaches. Delicious!
Have loved eating here for many years, and supported them during pandemic with weekly takeout fromThe Flying Toad. Last night was such a disappointment. We had reservations for 6:30 and were offered a small table very near to the entrance. When we asked if we could be seated at another 2 top farther away from the entrance we were informed it was reserved for an event (?) We never saw an event occur while we dined. There were 2 special entrees offered and I chose one. When it was served I was not sure what I was eating and asked our waitperson what it was. It turned out it was the incorrect order. No offer was made to replace it and we noted our waitperson was noticeable “cooler” in affect after my discovery.
This has always been a high end dining spot in town. We were unhappy with the casual jeans and tank tops on the servers despite the high cost of menu items.
It seems to us that Hunsakers has an identity crisis ; is it still a thoughtful & tasteful high end restaurant or a casual joint like most other places in town? If it’s the latter, its very overpriced.
No longer the same great French restaurant as Vincent’s used to be with recent changes. Prices are high. Service is average at that price point. Food is good. They give you a lot. Slow, uncoordinated service. Extra 5% charge to support higher wages but cryptic message about how it doesn’t go to the staff. Used to be a fan but will be dining elsewhere in the future.
Black Garlic Mushroom Risotto lacked flavor, and garlic, and was soupy. Chili Spiced Pork Shank with Polenta was way too sweet and lacked spice, while the meat itself was flavorless.
After so many positive reviews, we were so excited to try out the flying Toad. The food was horribly disappointing the night we went, june 18th. The atmosphere was fun and the frog legs were good. Main entrees and dessert were awful.
The outdoor music was distracting and competed with conversation—food not as good as our previous 4x. Won’t sit outside again :(
Amazing food, amazing staff. They have bacon wrapped dates. I am going to marry this restaurant.
Delicious food and great service. We live in Texas but come here every time we are in town.
We ate outside because the weather was lovely and were pleased that we were seated quickly. The menu has something for everyone, and I chose the Steak Merlot which was a small filet mignon with a rich wine sauce and asparagus alongside. The steak was cooked perfectly. I noticed that there was Pavlova for dessert, an interesting option since I had never had it. I was not disappointed. You won't be either.
This is probably one of the most high end restaurants in Escondido, and it was pleasant. We only had the chicken pot pie, french onion soup, pork shank, and pork cutlet. All were fine, if pretty salty. I was hoping I would love it, so I could make it my go-to for a nice dinner, but at $60 per person without wine (including tip), I'd prefer someplace not quite as high end but with better food.
If you're trying to impress a date, it's a good choice, though.
Absolutely the best steak I have ever had! They put Happy Anniversary on our menus, which made the night even more special. This is my new favorite restaurant.
