Great service and a very good meal in a relaxing setting.
The food, staff and musicians were exquisite. The staff was very friendly, the music was a plus and the food was amazing! I will be back!
Not a big issue but IF...I had any suggestion to the restaurant to make it an even better experience than what we had....I remember seeing "American Idol" and something else on the other tv while the jazz musicians were on a break...I can't recall if it was only during the musicians break? But play in the large tv's some cool graphics or fish swimming in water or something else to compliment the music, atmosphere and mood. If they had the tvs off while the musicians played, then never mind because we still had the best experience in a long time, thank you. :)
Been a patron of the original Hal’s for years, and have been to the new Primitivo at night...
came for Mother’s Day lunch, nice table outside,
but was surprised to find they only served a short Mexican menu.
Burrito was wrapped in paper.
Didn't know Hal's turned into a Mexican restaurant.
Food and drinks were very good aswas the service. Great atmosphere on the patio.
It would help if the even partly validated the parking in back of the restaurant. $10 to park is pretty steep.
Consistently great service and food! Menu is varied although not huge. Will keep coming back.
Service was good. Food was just OK. We’ve been there many times. Maybe we’re done with it
Best burger and fries, with a martini you are all set.
Very nice, cozy place. The food is good but not great but it is a good value for the price. The waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful and provided just the right balance between attentiveness and discretion.
You can actually talk at Hals
The food is consistent,and good.
We eat there every week.
We had a great time at Hals. We were lucky to be able to get a last minute reservation on Easter. Thank you, Open Table!!! We were sat at a window seat and our waiter was simply amazing. He was fun, energetic and knowledgeable about the menu. Our drinks were poured to perfection. My boyfriend especially loved his spicy Bloody Mary. Since we went on Easter Sunday we opted for breakfast. I had the steak and poached eggs, my boyfriend had the Egg Sandwich with Jalapeño Bacon. Yes...Jalapeño BACON! 💋 Our whole experience was perfection. We will be back again.
Even better than expected! Delicious meal, great menu options and fantastic service. We will definitely return!
Hibiscus margarita. ❤️❤️❤️
Great Drinks and food. The atmosphere isn't quite as inviting as the original Hals. But very nice. I wish they had a jazz brunch!
martini was a bit watered down, but otherwise food was delicious
I miss the ambiance of the old Hal's, but the food at the new place is really tasty and at least as good as the old days. It did seem very expensive for what it was, but that's LA.
Very nice waiter, clean and quick restaurant. Limited menu, smoked salmon Benedict was good.
One of the first restaurants we visited when we moved here a decade ago. One of our favorite spots when we lived on the west side. We were sad when we saw the closed sign on their doors of their original spot. Food is still delicious and service is great. The vibe of this place is always amazing. Love their art. And the music was perfect for a beautiful Sunday afternoon.
Host Stand was in a bit of a disorder and because of that we actually got an email saying we d not kept our reservation and we needed to explain ourselves. I am sorry but its a little off putting. I will have second thoughts before recommending to any good friends
We sat on the back patio. It was relaxed with great service. Even though it was Valentines Day, we didn’t feel rushed or pressured to give up the table. Great food. Selected the price fixe menu which was a great value.
It was a terrible experience. They were empty except for two people at the bar, but open for lunch. I was so excited because I had loved Hal’s for years when it was at its previous location a few blocks further south on Abbot Kinney.
The menu was pretty much the same, but it is now connected to a Mexican restaurant owned by the same people. They brought chips and salsa and no one seemed to understand a request for various other things so all the food that came was incorrect. And not very good. Even their fabulous French fries tasted like they’d been fried in the same oil as the chips... and suffered for it.
We literally had four or five different waiters and waitresses and none of them would come back to deal with us. We were very pleasant and extremely patient but they got the orders wrong, then didn’t fix them, then didn’t understand that we were not going to pay for what we didn’t get… Etc. Etc.
Finally one waitress, who is lovely, took one meal off the check and we tipped her five bucks in cash to thank her, but it was a very unhappy experience and we will never go back! All of which makes me very sad because it was one of my favorite lunch and brunch places in all of LA.
Food and service were great.
We love Hal's and eat there every time we come to LA. The food never disappoints.
I think Hal’s had “The Just Opened Blues”. Whereas the food was very good, they messed up the orders: heavily! 5 items were not correct. They did rectify all of them, but some customers would not have been as “understanding “ as we were .
The service was great and so was the food. It still remains a great place to go.
My favorite thing here is the Turkey Burger! It's always good and the fries are great too.
I've been coming to Hal's for years and the service and the food are consistently excellent.
I drive from Sherman Oaks. Hal is a very nice guy...also. Cheers.
We arrived there only to find that the restaurant was closed as they'd decided, according to the valet guys, to close down for a staff party elsewhere (!!). They did this despite taking the reservation we'd made only that AM. I used to love this place years ago but it's obviously not remotely the same "Hal's." Too bad. (*the one star is only there because they force you to do so*)
Fun time and good service. Brought my family here with two kids who were dressed for the occasion, yet hostesses attempted to put us on the back patio with another large untamed family in the corner. Not sure why we couldn’t sit front/main dining room which we ultimately wanted, but ended up in the Mexican restaurant dining area after requesting to be moved. Overall, good food and experience and I will return.
An AMAZING New Years Eve at Hal's - VERY reasonably priced and well considered fixed menu option. All agreed the food and service was outstanding! Nice intimate but fun ambiance - quiet enough for conversation. A great evening!
Great food, great service. Love this place. Simple, pretty decor.
Turkey burger & Caesar salad - still great !
Luciano did a great job serving us. Music in Patio too loud ... despite requests to turn it down a bit. Lovely weather... class Venice dining alfresco!
Comfortable upscale ambiance, friendly staff, great food.
Sadly disappointing, especially if you are a fan of the "Old Hals". Food was OK, service was lackluster, ambiance is not inspiring. Will not be returning.
I had an amazing experience at Hal's. It was a great find and I hope to have the opportunity to go back soon.
The food was wonderful and the service was great! Thank you!
This was my first time at Hal’s and we had such a great experience. I made our Saturday evening reservation for 6 people through Open Table for and requested a quieter table. My experience has been that restaurants typically never read requests, or don’t care enough to follow through. For the first time in my life I received a phone call about my request! A few hours before our reservation, the hostess at Hal’s kindly called me to say she would like to seat us outside because she felt it would be quieter, and then asked if we would be okay with that location, to which I said of course! When we arrived, the hostess said that it was actually noisier outside so she moved us to an inside table. The fact that she cared enough to take the time and evaluate the best table for us is what most restaurants miss, a personal touch.
Having enjoyed the original Hal’s for years, we were sorely disappointed in our recent visit. It took fifteen minutes to be served glasses of wine. We sent back the Cote du Rhône glasses since they tasted like grape juice. Instead, we chose $17 Cabernet glasses that were not of any note. The menu is very limited. Our peaches in the first salad were not ripe. A beet salad was carelessly thrown together with more unripe peaches and had no taste. The burger was served on a soaked bun and sadly prepared. Only the fries were good. The front room is extremely noisy. It used to be a familiar but special place. It’s still pleasant but the food served was of truck stop quality.
We loved sitting on the patio. So quiet , cozy, and pretty. Terrific service, wonderful food at a fair price. This was a Friday night and we were not rushed and easy to get to PRTheater for a play in time.
We came for music and dinner Sunday night. The website indicated music from 7-10. We arrived at 7:30 just as the musicians stopped to take an hour and a quarter dinner break. The food was worse than mediocre.
Grilled chicken was dry, salmon was salty and not moist, vegeburger just ok...grilled artichokes not very good, hummus was good. Overall mediocre
