The food was amazing . The margaritas are amazing and a great and very strong. Service is fast, polite and cordial. Our sever Alberto made us feel like kings and queens.
You have to try this restaurant if you visit Cancun. Great for special occasions.
Was excited to try this with our hotel stay at Krystal Cancun. I'm sure the restaurant does not deserve one star, but unfortunately when we arrived and showed our reservation booked from Open Table, they said they did not know what it was and would not honor our reservation, so we were not allowed to eat at the restaurant. Very disappointed.
Mi esposa y yo fuimos a comer el día 28 de febrero a celebrar mi ochenta aniversario de vida. Buena comida, buen ambiente. Los s gelicito
Frankly this was our most disappointing meal out of about 14 we had when we were in Cancun. We were motivated to book this place because of reviews, ignoring some of the worse reviews that actually turned out to be pretty accurate. While we were hoping for a very authentic Mexican experience from drinks, cuisine, etc. the most authentic thing was the mariachi playing. While my friends were not enthused due to how loud it was and playing at each table, I enjoyed them. The meal started off poorly as we opted for the large margaritas that we saw at multiple tables and they were the worst margaritas all three of us had in Cancun and possibly ever, extremely sweet but somehow lacking flavor and could not taste any alcohol (had to ask for more tequila just to dilute the drinks and make them drinkable). Had the guacamole (forgettable) and cheese chicharrones (not bad) for appetizers but the chips used were almost inedible. We went with the enchiladas (recommended) and a fish special for entrees and these were all nothing special, none of us finishing our meals. By the end of the meal the only thing I was looking forward to was one of the flame coffee drinks, but the check was dropped before we could even get one. If you are looking for an authentic Mexican meal/experience, do not go here.
We were in Mexico for the holidays, and we took our parents here for their wedding anniversary. A great experience with a live mariachi band that went table to table getting song requests or singing a song in Spanish based on the occasion you were celebrating. We enjoyed the food thoroughly, ordered a great bottle of wine, fantastic guacamole, and I personally had a really tasty fish. It was pricier than any of our meals in Mexico (we generally went for a lot of smaller family-owned local spots), but definitely worth it for a celebration!
I swear I had the worst experience in my life! I made an online booking for 31st of December about a month ago since I’m traveling all the way to Cancun from Japan with my family. I have got confirmation email also reminder the day before our booking. However when I arrived on the day after a long day, the lady at the front told me that they have party and they don’t accept online booking which didn’t make sense at all. Even worse, they never apologised and just shout us out, like seriously shout the door and locked us out in a very rude manner. That was the worst service I have ever experienced. You should have not accept the online booking if you aren’t available on that night as I saw few groups got reduced with the most rude attitude by the staff. I hope you will have a better service manner to the customer.
We really had fun at this place. The huge margarita was delicious and fun to share! We also loved the live mariachi band. It was perfect for my birthday. The chips/Guac were excellent, as was the atmosphere. The rest of the food was ok - not outstanding - but the whole place was fun and lively, plus it was right in the heart of the Cancun. So, for anyone staying nearby, it was convenient and easy to get into. I would go back.
Good food with live music.
Competent Mexican food in a very touristy area. Great service. Does not have a drink menu, Margaritas seem to be the main seller along with standard drinks. Reasonable price and a good mariachi band.
Service was non existent for a restaurant that was 25% occupied. Our appetizer came out after our main dishes. Our drinks were constantly empty & we'd have to flag someone to come over.
I first ate at this restaurant 20 years ago with my family; we loved the festive atmosphere, the originality of the food and the friendly service. We would go back each time we were in Cancun because the restaurant had a special place in our heart, and our first dinner there after Wilma felt like seeing an old friend again.
However, looking unsentimentally at El Mortero on my most recent visit made me realize that the place isn't anymore what it once was. While the quality of the food was pretty decent (but not great), service was subpar and hurried. You felt like you were in a factory - they want to sell you something quickly and then turn over the table to the next party. This wasn't a nice experience and I don't think I'll come back.
A typical resort tourist restaurant. Ok experience for kids. Nothing special. Nothing bad.
Amazing tacos! The tortillas were excellent! The mariachi band was a nice touch and the staff were attentive and very nice. I would definitely go again the next time I find myself in Cancun!
Food was delicious and the mariachi band was actually quite good. Very authentic Mexican dining experience.
The best meal during our stay in Cancun!
I came with my boyfriend and his family. It's a lovely place with authentic Mexican feel to it. Food was very fresh and delicious. Only a down fall was desserts. We all had different ones and non of them were nice which is a real shame as the food was great. We would definitely come back
Food was pretty good but service pretty awful. Our server kept running off in the middle of taking our order and just completely forgot about multiple drink orders. Mariachis are awesome.
Bright and cheery with a great band. The food was very incredible and served by extremely attentive staff. Overall a uniquely memorable experience for my family!!!
Everything was wonderful, from start to finish! The host was welcoming, the service was attentive and the food was amazing. The margaritas! the ambience was romantic, complete with a wonderful mariachi band. I highly recommend Hacinenda el Mortero!
Food was delicious. Drink was large and tasted of no alcohol. Had to ask 3 times for water and 3 separate times for wine. Waiter refused to give us our leftovers. Said they were not able to. Then after he gave us the bill he came and grabbed it back, took it away and put an 18percent tip in that space on receipt. We called another over and asked about it, he said we could cross it out. We did.
El Restaurant es bonito, la comida es buena, son raciones demaciado pequeñas y el precio exageradamente caro, x eso no lo recomiendo
Great food and service and really nice atmosphere. Will return next time we're in Cancun.
At 7pm they always have live Mariachi. Very nice touch for a vacation type dinner.
great restaurant, delicious mexican food, the mariachi plays great, my favorite place in cancun
Nice Mexican place with great food & mariachi:-)
Excellent food and service
We were given a table at the back of the restaurant. With reservations I expected a better table. During diner there was a ruckus of some kind and a couple of young patrons were noticeably ejected by a man I assume was management. Food was okay but not great. Neighbourhood is not suited to family after dark. I liked the traditional Mexican theme and the music. I like the lime sauce served with the chips.
