Gyu-kaku - Downtown San Diego
Don’t go unless you like the best service and food ;)
Birthday celebration. Was very pleased with the service and the quality of the food.
I didn't know there was a korean BBQ restaurant in Downtown San Diego. I went for lunch last week. It's in the heart of the Gaslamp, so I recommend parking at the Horton Plaza lot. The restaurant is a block away from the 4th Ave entrance of the garage.
Recommend getting their lunch special. You have the option of getting 2 or 3 meats/veggies. Comes with rice, salad and miso soup. It's very filling.
If you go with a big group or are starving, they also have family style meal options.
it looked like it was a fairly new location that opened up plus i think they were understaffed so i can understand why it was so hectic and the employee didn’t really know what she was doing but they were both very kind and even opened up the hand wipe for us.
The food was delish and our waiter was so helpful in picking out items. The portions were great and we loved the atmosphere!
Good, authentic Korean fare. Good service, especially given Fourth of July dining.
Service was lacking. Food was just ok. Everything just took forever! Not going back.
Amazing service and good food
Meat portion was so small, and the bibimbap rice was too sticky. The indoor is spacious and ventilation seems to be good, food itself is too expensive compare to quality/quantity.
Food was great and the appetizer/starters were generous! However, when guests would leave servers did not clean tables until the end of the night. We would be sitting next to dirty, empty tables which was not very appetizing. Also, there was a VERY drunk guest who was cussing up a storm, yelling and trying to talk to every surrounding table. We were trying to be polite, but would have appreciated if the servers stepped in told the man to settle down as I heard TWO separate parties having telling the man themselves that he was crossing a line. I love gyu kaku, but will go to the location in Mira Mesa from now on.
The meat quality was superb but it was definitely very expensive to not feel even a bit full.
Good food, the grill your meats on your own table portion is entertaining, service was excellent
So glad they opened up a second location in San Diego. The one in Scripps Ranch is always busy so this was a great option. We made reservations for our party of 5. We loved the food and they even had a Father's Day special when we went. Food was great and customer service was awesome. We'll definitely come back!
Great food, presentation, ambiance, fast service, and really loved that they were ready to seat us at our reservation time.
Made reservation and got sat at first table right by door, we were the only people sat over there. was very awkward seating and were a bit forgotten .
Server was not attentive to my groups requests. This was our first experience, and her explanation of the menu was minimal; which put us in a position to make a hasty menu decision while sighed as she took our order. Aside from the serving, your meat cuts, serving sizes and signature marinades are great.
Food was very good, service was great and s’mores were so fun! Can’t wait to go back for full experience.
Love this place will definitely come back again!
Great food and great staff. The only issue we came across was that the hostess was the only one serving and making drinks and she was falling behind. The expectation to have one person fulfill all 3 roles is unrealistic. She was extremely pleasant and apologetic. I hope they hire more staff.
Very yummy food. I love the garlic fried rice
Farewell meal for my mentee
This place was amazing and the food was delicious. Definitely try the ramen. Great atmosphere. Wonderful service.
My Tokyo tea was nasty, not enough Madorji. The portions of the meat was just too small I think, definitely not what I’m used to. “From Hawaii”
Delicious and everyone was so nice 🤟🏼
This restaurant is extremely dirty and not well kept. We didn’t stay to eat and left after sitting at the table. Was expecting more because I’ve been to the NYC locations and love them all, but this place was not clean.
Absolutely delicious!!!!!!! My boyfriend & I fell in love with this place after one night of dining out- now we make it our regular routine date night restaurant! All the food is delicious- you cook yourself, the experience is amazing & very affordable. Enjoy all the photos -
I booked a reservation here for Mother’s Day lunch and it was PHENOMENAL. They had a Mother’s Day special where for 2 people for $90 or $100(depending on which one you picked) and you got a whole assortment of veggies, beef and chicken. This was my first time at a Japanese BBQ where you get to grill the food at your table and it was a 10/10 experience. Everything was delicious and the service was wonderful. Everyone was so nice and patient and explained how long to cook the meat ideally for and answer any questions. Don’t hesitate to eat here !
Took my mom down for an early Mother’s Day. Happy to find a location downtown. I could tell they were understaffed due to covid. Our servers were super nice. Shinji, the manager brought the Japanese hospitality to our table. He was Super nice and he gave us a complimentary green tea. The restaurant needed more help for the hours around dinner time. Food was just the right amount for three people. We ordered a Ninja combination. Had there been more help, the cleanliness of the store could have been better (bathroom) and bussing of tables. Still, we received all our items in a timely manner and the food quality was great. Will be back! The sauces and food were super delicious and came with a big bowl of rice.
Simply fun and amazing bbq. Safety protocol followed and the place was very clean. I’ve eaten at a lot of Asian BBQ places with the family but we now have a new favorite place. Highly recommended!
Was a super fun experience, food was so flavorful, service was quick and friendly and they had a lunch special that was an incredible value. We will be back!
Procedures unfamiliar to new diners; no serious effort to properly orient newcomers so that they might fully enter into the experience of dining here. Server, behind mask, spoke so rapidly "explaining" things that we couldn't follow her; when asked to speak more slowly and distinctly, she apologized, then proceeded to repeat her original incomprehensible spiel at the same rate. Wine was priced by glass and bottle, with one bottle worth three glasses. Unfortunately the single glass pour was so stingy as to be a total rip-off.
SO GOOOOOODDD!!!!! Can't wait to come back for happy hour!
It was good but not great.
Excellent first time there, we loved it
Really good food and service!!!
Amazing restaurant. VERY RECOMMENDED!!
