We booked a table for 2 at 2:30pm to have my BDay celebration lunch. This was our first time visiting Gymkhana following a lot of positive reviews.
We arrived slightly later, approx at 2:40. The waiter gave us the menus, announced that the kitchen wad closing in 5min and disappeared.
We were lost thinking that we had to leave as we couldn’t order this quickly without any help from the waiter. Then we fought him and asked to clarify if we still had time to order but instead he offered us to speak with the manager. The manager arrived and explained that we could stay and still had time to order food.
Stressful and rushed welcome made us feel really unwelcome but we decided to stay as we had no alternative plans.
We simply quickly followed food advice from another waiter.
The food was too spicy for our taste. Unfortunately the waiter didn’t tell us that it’s the “real Indian food” which was very spicy. I couldn’t finish half of my food.
Overall disappointing experience thanks to a bad welcome and rushed ordering. Wouldn’t come back or recommend visiting.
The best Indian restaurant that I’ve ever eaten - the menu isn’t extensive but absolutely superb.
The care and attention from the staff, whilst not intrusive, is exceptional. Our waitress notice I was struggling with the level of spiciness of my dish and, without asking, she brought me a mango lassi - outstanding service!
Delicuous flavourful food matched with cheeky cocktails or confident wine pairings. Try the kid goat! Critically this place doesn’t use spice for its own sake but rather to tanstilise and tempt your taste buds. Definitely worth the trip to this tucked away oasis oozing with flavour. As with all good dining experiences staff were friendly fun and obliging.
Hand’s Down BEST Indian food we have ever had. Every dish was superb and we were only sad we didn’t have room to try more. Our stand out dishes were the Kid Goat appetizer (with addition) and Chicken Butter Masala to die for. All of servers were very friendly and helpful.
I have always loved Indian food but never have I had it at such an elevated level but with so little pretension. The food, service and ambience were exceptional. Go for lunch, do the tasting menu with the wine pairings and leave well fed and delighted. Make sure you engage with the staff as they are very knowledgeable and helpful.
My family had an amazing late lunch while visiting in London last week. The food was by far, the best Indian food we have had and we have been to some high- end Indian restaurants. The servers were very helpful and friendly. Would definitely return!
Excellent, flavorful food well presented, and impeccable service. The front dining room felt a little more casual than expected, but as a result we were perhaps more comfortable walking in as casually-dressed tourists than we would have been in a more formal setting. Ambiance had a strong colonial/refined-masculine feel, vaguely reminiscent of a NY steakhouse, and I think I'd feel comfortable there in anything from a suit and tie to a polo shirt and clean blue jeans. We ordered off the Early Evening Tasting Menu and while the food was delicious, portions were a little small for our American appetites. With the benefit of seeing what neighboring tables ordered at least one of us would have ordered a la carte, or perhaps added an extra starter or even a meat dish for our table.
Lovely! My husband and I had lunch there for his birthday. He loves South Asian food but I was bored of it so wasn't particularly looking forward to it. But our 12pm (early) lunch was surprisingly fantastic! Service was very efficient and thorough. Food was certainly impressive and extremely tasty - the lunch menu was great value. And the cocktails - unique and moreish. 5*
We went for lunch on a saturday. It was delicious. Very good value for money as we had settled on the set lunch menu. Really generous portions. Ordered an extra biryani and it was fantastic. I thought the soft shell crab was a bit lackluster- it wasn't crispy but rather was a bit soggy. Also didn't love the dessert that was with the menu but that is obviously a taste preference. Thought the service was excellent.
I am appauled that the Gymkhana has a Michelin star. NOTHING about our experience was close to that of a Resturant that earned such an honor. Maybe Michelin has lowered it standards. Food was nothing unique, service was sub par, mattradi was rude.
We have eaten at some of the best restaurants around the world with 1,2,3 stars and this 1 star should be revoked.
Great menu, largely great service. Room is small and loud when busy. The first few courses of the tasting were a little rushed - more of a conveyor belt approach than a chance to savour & enjoy each dish. Had to ask for a pause, which then became 25mins (from zero gap between courses until then).
Overall fab though, food was fabulous
The food and cocktails were great. The dining atmosphere is casual. Our Gymkhana host Shiv was great and helped us to select the best "not to miss" dishes as well as the better cocktails! Personally, I did not enjoy the aloo tiki chat - the tiki tasted like it had been frozen and reheated. However, all the other dishes we ordered were tasty.
