Wonderful food, excellently crafted drinks and a lovely ambiance!
We had a reservation for this past Saturday for a birthday celebration at 8:15. The hostess was very polite but the manager and rest of employees were not. The manager sent us inside to wait no chairs were able at the bar. We decided to get drinks well we had to wait 15 minutes to get our drink when there was 3 bartenders, to top it they messed up our drinks twice. For the whole time we waited for our table patiently, we weren’t even being acknowledged. We had to keep on going to the hostess for an update on our table. Then supposedly they were getting our table ready, well they ended up giving our table to someone else. After waiting for an 1hr 15 minutes we finally got our table. We wanted to order salmon we requested if they could not put pepper on it since one of us is allergic to it, well that request was denied. Unfortunately we ended up leaving. We were expecting good service and a good time but that couldn’t happen. If this restaurant is supposed to be fine dining, there’s a lot of improvement that needs to happen.
Hi e absolutely loved our dining experience here. Enjoy our dinner, excellent winelist and cocktail list. Sara the manager and her team did an excellent job
Terrible food and slow services wont be back. Waiter was NOT friendly at all- strange and disappointing experience. He catered to the bigger table that came after us and never asked how our food was. It was my husbands birthday- we flew there to go to this restaurant. Go elsewhere food was terrible too.
Such a great place! Food was perfection!
I've had better steaks at home, 2 Ribeyes over cooked, not flavorful, almost like a cheap cut of meat, tough, not a $65 steak. Mashed gold potatoes tasted strongly of vinegar, our guest (party of 3 total) had Wagyu which at least was OK. Very long wait between salad and entre, at least 25 min. And an even longer wait for our check, nearly 1/2 hour. Seemed our waiter was overwhelmed, rushing by our table a dozen times without stopping. Another 'interesting' thing is that the path to the restroom lead right by the waiter service, plates of food waiting to be picked up are sitting right there in the open, exposed, I could have touched, sneezed on or done anything with the plates of food waiting to be picked up, just seemed unusually unsanitary... Bottom line is that I can think of at least 5 steak houses with better food, better service and less expensive menus. Very disappointed for $570 for a party of 3 with NO wine and 1 mixed drink (which according to the person that ordered it was sub par as well)...
Had our anniversary dinner here. The food in the service was amazing the well drinks were amazing as well well worth it
Birthday vacation trip for my boyfriend. Had a great meal on a Sunday evening and it was fairly empty.
I have to say the environment was definitely a beautiful setting and the vibe was a plus I thought the food was subpar but I found it odd that I read some of the most amazing restaurant and this restaurant didn’t allow me to have the steak cut in slices in the kitchen and I had to do it at the table. So odd. Overall I would recommend GreyStone for the ambience ants in it!
TLDR - Food is mediocre. Big parties get charged $15 banquet fee in addition to 18% gratuity (gratuity is a given)
Good but pricey for what you get!
Food was delicious
Drinks were awesome
Service was okay
Wait for food was absolutely HORRENDOUS
3 hrs from seating to dinner (with a reservation)
Had a reservation and still took 45 minutes to get seated
Had cocktails at the bar while waiting
Host tried to sit us outside after we told her numerous times we wanted indoor seating
Once seated, appetizers arrived quickly
ENTREES took FOREVER - no kidding, about 2 hours for entrees to arrive
in the interim,
I ate all the bread
Drank all the water
And waited…and waited….and waited….
Undercooked the steak - not a big deal, but had to contemplate eating something undercooked or waiting another 2 hours. Took a chance - steak came crack perfect 15 minutes later
Despite the food being delicious, won’t be going back.
Very disappointed. Service was so slow, took forever to get our orders in and took even longer to get drinks and food. We were there for like an hour and a half before we got our food. We all ordered the shrimp and scallops (for 50 a plate). When they came out we were all shocked at the potion size. There was, I kid you not, 2 scallops, and 2 shrimp on this plate with one small piece of bread in the center. We all finished the plate within about 45 seconds. It tasted great BUT that is simply an insane and unrealistic portion size. The bill for us was over 300 dollars. I ended up paying 115 dollars for 3 watered down cosmos, 2 scallops, 2 shrimp, and 1 piece of bread. I left feeling robbed.
Absolutely wonderful cuisine. The service was top-notch, and our waitress was very knowledgeable of the food and spirits menus.
The food came out reasonably quick and at perfect spacing between courses.
The only nit I'd have is I would've preferred some music other than something expected at an afterhours rave.
Worn out old restaurant resting on its laurels.
Service is outstanding considering the short staff of many restaurants. The food was delicious. Our friends had the Chilean sea bass. And said it was delicious. My husband said his wild boar pasta was tasty. My lobster bisque soup had a good amount of lobster in it and was delicious as was my caprese salad.
We ordered the expensive $25 per ounce Waygu steaks and it came out cold as did the rest of the food. Extremely disappointing. No apology from the manager or offer to adjust the bill. I understand the world is short staffed and there are quite a few restaurants that are suffering from this however when someone spends $1000 in your restaurant the food should come out hot and if it doesn’t the manager should at least make an attempt to apologize and make it right.
You could tell they were very understaffed. It took over 2+ hours to get our meal. Our waiter was trying to keep up. But just had too many tables. The food was delicious. Just a long evening.
Took over an hour to get our appetizers. Oysters tasted off. We cancelled the main course and left.
Very good steak and the sides were delicious. Service was top of the line. Will be back again.
One of my favorite places in DT SD before Covid. Don’t know what happened. Black and Blue steak came out just cold and raw on the outside. They remade it so it was at least hot on the outside but then medium rare middle. Still wasn’t black and blue for the price. Garlic fries were cold and wilted. Crab and asparagus was good, as was my wife’s scallops. I think the seafood chef knew what they were doing, steak chef should consider a career in fast food. Waiter had 2 tables at open/4pm and didn’t know the soup of the day or have ice tea made. Food took over an hour from order to eating. So did the refill on drinks. Not going back for 2 stars and 4 dollar $igns.
Great food and excellent service.
Fun Gaslamp Quarter experience but loud
Horrible service. Took 20 min for the server to great us. An hour in a half just to get out food. Drinks were barley filled. Server barely came to the table. Wanted medium rare to medium steaks. Steaks were extra cooked as if they were sitting in the window line. Got the sides and they were cold. Worked in the restaurant before and never in my life would ever treat a table the way we were treated. Just HORRIBLE!!!
The place and people were very nice. But the food was very average for the price.
Very nice place to eat in the Gaslamp district. They have great seafood and steak. It's a must-go if you are in the area and are looking for a place with some exotic meats such as bison and elk. You will not be sorry!
My wife and I went on a Saturday evening. We had reservations at 7pm and were seated a few minutes after our arrival. We waited several minutes for our waiter and overall the service was a little slow. The restaurant was very busy though. The staff was all very friendly. We ordered an appetizer which never arrived. Dinner took a bit to arrive but it came before the appetizer. The food was very good. There was no problem getting the appetizer removed from the bill. We had a good time but I am not sure we will be back.
The service was not on par with “the best steakhouse in San Diego.” Too few staff for a fine dining experience
Sever took all our sides without asking before hand and confused our plates with another table had to wait 1 hr to get my steak on my birthday
We went on a Saturday night with a reservation and waited two hours for our food. It would’ve been nice to have been told there was going to be a delay as I had my young son with me who was very hungry. The portion of his kids Mac n cheese was more of a snack-size. Overall, I left disappointed.
Very busy. Pretty. Good food and wine list. Awful noise level. Couldn’t hear each other.
Toughest ribeye I’ve ever had at a high end steakhouse. Waiter never even came back to check on us. Luckily when I got the Bill, I told the waiter and he got the manager who was apologetic and immediately removed the steak from the bill.
Went for my husband’s birthday. Restaurant ambiance is festive, fun, and upscale for the Gaslamp District. Our server was fantastic - generous, knowledgeable, friendly, quick…all the good stuff! Party of 5 (including 1 child - they have a small kids menu, btw! Bonus!) - everyone got the Filet Minon with sides of grilled brussel sprouts w/goat cheese (not our favorite - there’s definitely a better version at other local restaurants), asparagus, and lobster Mac&Cheese (DELISH but very rich). The steaks were fantastic and the sides a pleasant addition (except for the brussel sprouts). It is quite pricey, however just expect that going in. We had a great time and would definitely recommend!
The beef was wonderful and our waiter was so lovely. We had the Japanese wagyu and the filet mignon. Perfectly prepared. Also had the oysters on the half shell which unfortunately had a spoiled one in it. We let the wait staff know and they were sweet. They offered a free desert but I’m not big on sweets.
The tables downstairs with the booths are a bit awkward to sit in as they are curved. The lights flash on the walls in changing colors and it is pretty. Sound definitely carried inside.
Again, we went for the beef and we were happy.
Awesome service! They treated us well! Will definitely go back
I had a great time, service was awesome!!
I'm more than willing to drop down a few bills on a fancy dinner, but this was very, VERY overpriced. Has outdoor seating which is great, but the streets can be packed with people, especially if the Padres are in town.
