Who knew Vegan could taste so good? We were accommodated quickly, the service was excellent and the food was to die for! The street corn was the best I've ever tasted and the nachos had just the right amount of spice (not too wimpy). It was a perfect L.A. evening; we did not need the outdoor heaters and the ambience was great. I would recommend this restaurant for any occasion.
Delicious food! Especially the secret Nachos!! Best nachos ive ever had! The crab cakes are WAY too small for the price and they aren't anything super special. The enchiladas were good. More like comfort food. The drinks were amazing!! The dessert was good. Had the flan because my friend wanted to share it. I would rather try something else next time since I'm just not a big flan fan to begin with. I loved it and would and plan to go back very soon!
The hostess was devoid of any personality and was cold to us when we arrived, albeit slightly late, which we apologized for. Terrible first impression. Restaurant was beautiful, food was nicely presented. Was tasty but very rich. Fairly pricey. Waiter was very pleasant.
Thanks Mother...truly enjoyed this place! Great vibes from valet to hostess to wait staff (Chris was awesome!). Its a beautiful space inside and patio. Im not a vegatarian BUT the chef prepares the most yummy crab cakes, parmesan roasted corn, sweet potato flautas, and peach cobbler! I don't drink very often BUT the margarita was on point! I could go on and on. Final thought, I live in South Pasadena but I can't wait to go back for the enchiladas. Run don't walk to this place!
It's a gorgeous restaurant, especially the patio area. The food is very good vegan. Would not recommend the aged truffle cheese plate starter as it is one small ball of "cheese" that tasted and had the consistency of humus with lots of apples, toast, grilled veggies and compote. would not recommend getting the tasting menu as I did. All the options are delicious but it's way too filling. The best dishes were the crab cakes, mango sopas, chopped salad, tacos and flautas. The service started out good but really slowed between courses and our waiter went on break as we finished dessert so we had to call the manager to get our bill after sitting there for 30 minutes not knowing what was going on.
I love that Gracias Madre serves a menu that I can choose from without stress. I.e. No dairy. It is a beautiful restaurant and I keep going back and expecting it to be different than it is. Our server took an appalling amount of time to come take our order and then stood at the table without a greeting or even saying "what would you like to order", he just arrived and looked at us until we spoke. It was very awkward. All of the employees that came to our table just seemed to be "over it". My husband had ordered a dessert with a candle for my birthday. The request was completely ignored and the check dropped. The waiter offered a lukewarm "sorry" as a response. Like the staff, now we're over it.
As far as a twist on Mexican food I think it's pretty good. Not always a fan of some of their dishes so I stick to the jackfruit tacos and I'm always satisfied by them. Some of the other dishes are a little too sweet which is expected since they use a lot of fruits in their dishes.
I've always wanted to try GRACIAS MADRE, as I've always heard great things. Despite being swamped with customers, the hostess, Jackie, was extremely helpful in securing a table for me and my friends. I really enjoyed the two drinks I ordered, the Purista Margarita and the cachaca cocktail (I don't recall the exact name). I ordered the chips and guacamole, which, for the price, were rather disappointing. The guacamole lacked punch, and the chips were small and not warm. I had the cauliflower appetizer which was supposed to resemble calamari. I'd rather have actual calamari. It was good cauliflower, but not as substantive as actual seafood. I also had the plantains, which were delicious and filling, but again, not quite as satisfying as actual enchiladas or chicken mole. The BEST part of our meal was the vegan brownie. Outstanding! All in all, I would come back for dessert and drinks, but vegan Mexican food is not for me.
My wife and I typically go here on nicer occasions, anniversaries, date nights, etc. We can't say a bad thing about it. The food is always incredible, the ambiance is always good, the staff is always awesome and knowledgeable of everything you ask. I always thought it was a little on the pricey side. But it's really not, at all. The quality of the food and ingredients used is so worth what you pay. I've never disliked anything we've ordered. Starter wise, we've had the Quesadillas de Calabaza, and the Totopos Con Chile. Entree wise, we've had the Sopes Con Mango, the Flautas de Camote, the Enchiladas Verdes. And drink wise, we've had the So Fresa So Clean, and the Mezcal Mule. (That MEZCAL MULE!) Could have drank 5 of those! All items listed have been absolutely ridiculous. So delicious. Absolutely recommend checking them out. You should not be disappointed!
Great food and great space. All vegetarian dishes prepared in wonderfully interesting ways. Absolutely delicious and would recommend to friends, acquaintances and strangers alike. At peak time inside it was a little noisy, but I'm sure it was much better outside. The option of dining inside or outside on the patio is quite nice .
I can't wait to go back.
Overall, I enjoyed it and would go again. We brought my mom here to celebrate her birthday, which she enjoyed. The only downside, was the service was slow and we expected more for her birthday. There was three other parties there for their birthdays and all they do is bring you a dessert but they don't sing a song or anything. I would think for the value that you would get a little more bang for your buck. Other than that, I would give them another chance and try them again. The ambiance was lovely.
The restaurant is beautiful. My friend took me there for my birthday. I ordered the Tres bowl. Delish HOWEVER the quinoa must not have been cleaned/rinsed well as I got grit in almost every bite which took the experience down several notches.
I've always loved this spot as its just so pretty inside and out. But I find the staff are a bit less warm than they should be. We had a reservation and were running late so I called to let them know and they were pretty insistent on the 15 min rule wherein they give away your table if you're more than 15 min late. Fine enough. We arrived 20 min late and they did accommodate us but felt the need to "scold me" about their policy when I asked for the patio table I'd requested. That's just an off-putting attitude and not the best way to go into a dining experience. It was unnecessary and speaks to need for better customer service. We should all treat one another kindly.
Was told it would be 30 minute wait to sit outside, even with a reservation, and there were at least 10 (maybe more) open and unseated tables outside - but that we could be seated immediately indoors... very odd. Why have a reservation and plenty of open tables if you are told it is going to be 30 minutes to be seated?
