If you do not have a reservation then it is hard to get a table. I had the crab cakes appetizer which were so good. The sole con mango, so delicious. All the flavors mesh together very well and the mango salsa on top really kicks it off. Also had the flautas. I really looooveeee the black beans! Was not crazy about the flautas but they were good and flavorful. Guacamole is also very good.
The happy hour service isn't so great, they are so busy so they barely come by so you don't get a chance to order more than once during happy hour. And they charge you 4$ more if you request to make your drink skinny. The food was average but the place itself is nice.
As we sat down, the manager came over and said they make everything with nuts, they can't guarantee anything doesn't have some kind of nut something in it, so if you have any kind of nut allergy -- "we recommend that you don't dine with us".
This is information that I appreciate being told to us, as we'd rather not take any risk either. However, MUCH BETTER to have been mentioned somewhere, anywhere, on Open Table, in an email, during the reservation process, ANY EFFING MOMENT DURING THE WEEK PRIOR TO THE RESERVATION ... It would've prevented everyone from wasting time, and would've helped them score a better rating from me.
We ended up at Verve Coffeeshop a couple doors down. That place... I can Highly Recommend.
While the food was amazing, our waitress was horrible. She helped and checked on other tables (the ones next to us) but clearly ignored ours. She not once came to ask how we were doing. The only time she came to our table was to give us a "dessert menu" but didn't say anything. Not sure if maybe she was having a rough night. This was my birthday celebration and I had told my husband how amazing this place was. To be honest I will never come back. I understand the staff gets busy but it would be nice if they could give the same attention to all paying customers.
Overall, it was a great experience. The only annoying thing was that our waiter offered guacamole to us before we got our menus and charged us for it, which in the end was not a big deal but still a little shady. The food was delicious and creative, especially for someone who is vegetarian and is often left with similar foods at restaurants.
Gorgeous ambiance! Large indoor and outdoor seating great for large groups.
For vegans who love Mexican and for foodies alike, this is a great choice! For me, as a vegan and both gluten and corn free, there weren't as many options to choose from. My preference is their sister restaurant Cafe Gratitude. My kiddos loved it though and we will definitely be back and recommend to others.
This place was awful
I waited 40 minutes just for my server to ask me if I wanted drinks & then an additional 20 for my order to be taken. On top of this out waitress messed up our order and our food was forgotten and had to be re-made.
She continued to ignore us when we asked for her & ultimately took me 4 hours for my entire experience
I will never recommend this place to anyone. I have never been treated so badly.
Bad experience for first time. We arrived at 10:15 and were seated indoors. No one waited on us for 15 minutes before I had to ask for a server. When the server arrived, Ron, he didn't seem to happy, but nonetheless we ordered a few item and dessert. 30 minutes later the assistant general manager came to our table and said they had run out of the apple cobbler and we asked about our other part of the order and she said they had no order. So I let her know and asked her to call Ron over and he said we didn't order anything else and I said he must have lost his mind and said don't you remember the chips as one item and he sort of remembered and I asked him for his order pad and he obviously knew I called him out and both he and the manager started to apologize for everything that happened and offered free food, etc. I didn't want money, I just wanted to have a great dining experience, we traveled from downtown LA. So.. 15 minutes before being noticed, 30 minutes before telling us we had a problem, running out of a dessert, a server lying and being caught.. that's about it.. I would hope ownership would be proactive and make improvements so that each customer has a fabulous dining experience.
The food and service was excellent! Our server asked us had we been there before and if we had vegan food before. Based on our responses, she recommended menu items that did not disappoint.
Although, I'm on a journey to become completely vegan, my husband whose birthday we were celebrating, is not. He was skeptical because he LOVES Mexican food. However, it did not matter that it was vegan because he absolutely enjoyed the food! Especially the "crab cakes", and the fudge brownie topped with coconut ice cream was orgasmic. He talked about the food to all who would listen as did I. I highly recommend Gracias Madre to all.
We celebrated with our son and found the service impeccable, the food delicious and the setting original.the concept is artistic and beautiful. A classy place with vegan food that doesn't make a big sprouty deal about being vegan, just great food.
