Gong at Vidanta Riviera Maya
I wanted to love this restaurant but was really disappointed. For an appetizer we ordered the vegetable tempura. The serving size was great but the dipping sauce was anemic. I ordered the yellow curry and asked for it to be a little spicy. I was told doing that would negate the curry flavor but they would try. I’ve been to enough Thai restaurants in New York, Washington DC, London and Bangkok to know that a chef worth his salt can make this happen. What is received I don’t even think had any curry or coconut milk. Just tasted like spicy soy sauce. The ambiance is wonderful and maybe the chef was having an off day. My husband noted don’t go to Mexico expecting good Asian food. I think if it is being offered, it should be excellent.
Outstanding food and service! The chef came to our table and suggested several delicious dishes! It was an amazing dining experience.
Dinner was wonderful. Table on patio. Very attentive waiter. Sushi was fresh and delicious!!
Vacation with family.
Juan was an amazing server
The food was exceptional
Alfredo was excellent!!!! Everyone was so nice and the food was delicious
Really great food and service
Exceeded expectations. Excellent meal and service.
the kitchen was very slow and it took 45 min after ordering just to get an appetizer. Short rib bun was excellent the rest was mediocre. there are better restaurants on the resort property
Staying at the Grand Mayan. It was my 40th birthday, so folks wanted to take me someplace "special". To say this place disappointed would be an understatement.
Food was marginal. The atmosphere dismal (sitting behind the grill.... I reeked of grease the whole night). Service blah.
Only decent bit was the Happy Birthday wish (which my mother had to remind the staff about twice) and the chocolate cake.
Air conditioning was out & very hot evening.
Excelente servicio y la comida es maravillosa
Had a very nice meal here after spending a week at the resort (Vidanta) that houses this restaurant. Menu required some work as there were a lot of unfamiliar items. The waiter did a great job making sure we knew what we were ordering and answering questions. I ordered the Sukiyaki, which was cooked at the table. The food was outside of my normal wheelhouse but must say I enjoyed my meal. Everybody in the party was pleased as well.
Food and athmosphere are both very good. We had the grouper and it was great.
My daughter and I went to Gong for her birthday dinner. We actually own a property at this resort but weren't staying there, so we had very high expectations for the dinner based on our experience at the same restaurant in Nuevo Vallarta. Our experience was quite disappointing. Although they are listed on Open TAble, they were very rude when we arrived and they realized we were not staying st thx resort. They honored the reservation but put us in the corner away from all the other diners. The waiters were barely polite bug no where near as friendly or welcoming as when we've been resort guests. They didn't have one of the two things we planned to order -- didn't inform us of that until after we'd reviewed the menu and waited to order. The food was good but the way we were treated kept it from being a good experience. I meant to contact the resort when I got home but got busy. I will do so now because in spite of our bad experience, we booked it AGAIN through Open Table with my other daughter and had a substantially similar experience two nights ago!! The Manager was far more welcoming once we got through the gate, but the AC was off in the whole building, menu items were once again unavailable and wait service was polite at best. We were planning to stay at the resort in November but will be going to NV instead. Much nicer people and grounds.
The world most extraordinary beach resort".
The world most extraordinary beach resort".
Interesting food choices, appetizers are the best!
