Excelente! Más mejor que rosa negra
I first dined at this establishment in July 2020 of which at the time I wasn’t thrilled with this restaurant. I decided to give it another go while back in Tulum as I was with others that wanted to try this place out. I must say this time around it was a lot better then the first time I dined here. The food was better (some of which I had the last time I was at this restaurant) and the new items I tried were really good. The service could be a bit better but not awful. The ambiance is amazing at this restaurant.
Gitano has been one of our favorite restaurants in Tulum for years; sadly, this year was extremely disappointing. Quality of food has decreased dramatically, drinks weren’t good, surrounding tables were full of smokers, and we were offered street drugs multiple times in the bathroom (in a pushy way). Service continues to be great, and the restaurant is beautiful. Not sure we will be returning.
The food wasn’t as good as the other places we visited. Great ambiance. The presentation of the food was lacking.
Great place to socialize. Mixed crowd, beautiful and the place to be.
At first the waiter was attentive and immediately asked what kind of drinks and food we wanted but we waited 20 minutes till the waiter came back and asked for it again. 30 minutes after that we were looking for our waiter and he ignored us. We were able to get a hold of a different waiter and he took our drinks and food order. Still waited about 30 minutes for our drinks which came after we finished our food. Our waiter finally showed up and admitted for the terrible service, didn’t even offer anything else or possibly a discount. The food was also mediocre. It was an unfortunate experience and will not come back to it but I hope anyone else who does will have a different experience than us.
Just Magnificent as always
My husband and I had a reservation for Gitano and we arrived about 10 minutes early and were still seated, which was very nice of them.
Our waiter came to the table and introduced himself as Axel. He took our drink order, my husband had a Dry Gin Martini and I had a margarita - both drinks were on the better side than we've had in our entire time in Tulum but still felt a little on the weaker side.
For appetizer we order a lobster tostada which we both shared - I'm sure it wasn't meant for just one person but we had eaten earlier and weren't too hungry to get our own appetizer. That said, that lobster tostada was the best thing we ate our entire time in Tulum. It was absolutely delicious and fresh - we were both surprised at how good it was.
For dinner my husband ordered a medium well carne asada which came with rosemary potatoes and he enjoyed it. I ordered the slow roasted pork belly and it was also fantastic.
Our experience at Gitano was great - I love the proper precautions the restaurant took when it comes to COVID-19 - all staff had a face mask and were properly cleaning tables and using hand sanitizer.
A bit of an odd place. Food was ok, huge space, nice ambiance.... then there are some guys near the restroom trying to sell molly and ecstasy all night and no one kicked them out...?
overpriced and overrated I would not return personally
Carne asada and pulled pork were sooo good! I recommend the red snapper tostada as an appetizer😋. Great ambience and cute shops nearby to go shop at before and after dinner
It was an absolutely amazing experience! The host last night I believe it started with
I like the Place but I didn’t LOVE. I went to the one in NYC and the menu is better. But still the vibe was nice and staff was great.
Great place in Tulum for dinner and party!
Overall our experience was very good. We visited with our 3 year old, and had booked their earliest slot, but were about 15 minutes late. They told us not to worry, and gave us a table of our choice. We tried a couple of drinks, and several of the small plates like ceviche, beet carpaccio, aguachile tacos, octopus and pomelo salad. Even our 3 year old loved the food though he did find the aguachile tacos a little spicy.
Our only complaint was that once the sun set, it got really dark so we couldn't see our food. There are mood lights around, but not enough to see what's on the table.
On the whole though, I'd definitely recommend it, and it is fairly child friendly.
Keep in mind that there is no street parking anywhere nearby, so a taxi is your best option, but there is a family run parking lot called Chavez Parking about 4 restaurants down where you can park all day for 200 pesos, which would work out to about 10% of the cost of your food. Worth it especially if you plan to walk around and explore the area after dinner.
While the restaurant was beautiful, the service and food were specifically bad. We were told the second we sat down that we had 90 minutes and then would have to get up. Our food wasn't good and plates came with 5 sticks of veggies. Wouldn't recommend going to eat, just go to the bar for a drink
Awful food , front desk lady actually told us before sitting at the table that I reserved 30 days in advance “ we are fully booked you only have 90 minutes to enjoy” we were like what?? And the food was horrible without taste.
Food was yummy!!! Small plates only!! Service was just ok! Had to ask for our waitress often!!! Great ambiance and music!
It’s a fun vibe with good food. Hard to beat. Friday’s seem to be the popular night to go. Live music. I recommend reservations and keep in mind you have a 1.5 hour limit at your table. I’ve been here twice and would absolutely go back.
Very nice vibes. So much better than the one in NYC
This was my favorite place in Tulum. We made rez's for the Friday night jungle party & Valentine's Day - but our cab never showed and we missed our rez. So we went the next night! So worth it. Gorgeous and sexy atmosphere, great live music, and great service. Food was local, fresh, and spectacular. Drinks were delicious and people watching was excellent too!
Beautiful, delicious, special
Food was great a bit pricey but def worth it
The restaurant at night is absolutely beautiful we would recommend booking for drinks. Dinner was honestly okay, did not leave a lasting impression and for the price we rather dine somewhere more authentic. That said the atmosphere is worth the reservation and we enjoyed the drinks.
Only bad part about my experience is I had I to put my credit card down to reserve. Checked in at the desk and host forgot to mark me down as checked in. I was charged a $75 no show fee. Restaurant credited me once I contacted them.
Save your money and go elsewhere in Tulum. This place is the legit worst.
It's a place to see and be seen. Drinks are solid food is nothing special or even worth it. Again it's a runway for the Tulum crowd of weeklong gypsy's and Instagram wannabes in a Miami Esq setting.
Delicious food and nice drinks. Staff incredible friendly. Can’t wait to come back
The candles on the bathroom floor caught my friends skirt completely on fire and she got 3rd degree burns but they comped our meal and the food was good and the atmosphere & dj are always good
The food was terrible. I was sick after eating raw red snapper on their menu.
Food was over priced and mediocre at best. Service is like most places in Tulum - sloppy.
Cena animada y con mucho ambiente.
Servicio lento y la comida no era buena.
La fiesta espectacular.
The worst. Seated at table an hour late. It took 45 minutes for water and drinks to arrive. The food was ordered upon sitting down at table and was taking over an hour to arrive at which point the waiter said it was last call for food. Once the order arrived it was all wrong and missing all the main courses. They couldn’t fix it because the kitchen was overwhelmed and was closing. They said sorry we can recommend another restaurant we didn’t expect to be so busy. Extremely disappointed.
After Gitano was hyped by everyone we were massively let down by the whole experience. We were clearly given the worst table due to our open table reservation despite other tables being free. The cocktails were fine for price but not very good at all... The food was average at best for the price and extremely salty.
The service was also average - no one came to check how things were, ask if we wanted more drinks - nothing.
While the location is extremely beautiful it is too hyped for what it is and the price. There are many more better places in the zona hotelera that are way cheaper. Not worth the reservation to be honest...
The host made us wait at the bar for 90 minutes. I approached him several times to remind him of our reservation and he just ignored me. Worst experience
We have eaten here many times over the years and considered this one of our favorite spots.
But this year there was a big decline in the food and presentation.
The menu is the same as last year but the portion size and presentation was totally different. Very disappointed in the lack of consistency. Food was just ok. Ambiance and music was amazing but we really missed the outstanding food that we had before.
