Nice enough Indian food but very expensive for the quality and portion size. Beware that bottled water is also £5.75 a bottle! I wouldn't return because I've had a lot better food for half the price. Our bill was just under £207 for 3 people with one bottle of wine.....
Good food. Service seems to have improved . Ordered a Chablis which was wonderful
I've been going to this restaurant for years. The food is always excellent.
I would definitely recommend.
Very delicious butter chicken and coconut curry. My friend enjoyed the taco and kebab starters. The taco comes in an adorable little wire car stand. Although I read some reviews that said the service was subpar, we found the service to be excellent.
We were asked to rush our order and food
Got wrong dish ,took it away and come back saying I don't know my chicken from prawns!
Very expensive for what we ordered
Would not go there again
Fabulous food. Awful service, it seemed like the waiters had taken copious amounts of ketamine and as a result where unable to speak, carry things, walk, interact, be polite, etc.
The chefs however must not have tried any special K as the food was absolutely superb.
We were disappointed with our visit to Gaylord. We'd wanted to try the restaurant for a while, and friends bought us an OpenTable voucher for a meal as a wedding present, so we were looking forward to our visit.
Sadly, we found service to be slow (20 min+ for a drink?), the waiters to be disinterested (we had to get up and serve ourselves water at one point as it was obvious that no one was going to come over, and several times we caught our waiter's eye only for him to walk straight past us) and the ambience to be quite stressful (our waiting staff had a full blown argument about wages, which lasted a good 45mins, on the restaurant floor).
The food was quite good, but nowhere near worth what we were charged. We both said we've had similar in our local high street Indian.
I was also disappointed by the cleanliness of the toilets (menstrual blood on the wall).
We are reasonable people and have both worked in catering/hospitality before. The restaurant was very quiet on the night we visited, and I do understand how that in lots of ways can be harder than it being busy - everything runs slower as you cook to order, and people start doing cleaning/housekeeping jobs which distract them from customers. But despite us voicing our disappointment politely, and eventually refusing to pay the discretionary 12.5% service charge added to our bill, there was no attempt to address our concerns and no apology made.
We came to the conclusion that perhaps Gaylord is trading on past glories, and in future would save our time and money.
Have visited before and returned because the food is great, despite being a bit on the expensive side.
Luckily, we checked the bill carefully before paying as we were charged twice on some items. The issue was rectified swiftly but without much apology. Sadly, this has tarnished the dining experience a little.
Amongst the top Indian restaurants in London - splendid food!
Nice food but expensive particularly after service charge is added.
Good food but slightly slow service. An enjoyable evening
The service was u friendly and my Norma was the worst I e ever had in an Indian . It was expensive with poor quality
Excellent service and great ambience. Very accommodating to host a birthday lunch for 10 that started 30 minutes before closing.
Third time visiting Gaylord, food was really nice and we were given some good vegetarian recommendations by the team. All dishes were delicious and just right in terms of portion size.
Lovely kebabs, roomali roti and excellent Bhaturas.
I've been to Gaylord a number of times and like it. This time we got a really poor table - too small, too loud, to busy.
Delicious food but overall a bit of a snafu
This was the 3rd time we ate here and every time the food was delicious.
The portions are good value and the service is always great as well.
I can definitely recommend this place.
Food was really good - best Indian I have had i an long time, but unfortunately we were a bit unlucky with the service. We waited a long time for our main to be removed (30) min, and was multiple times "forgotten" about.
Cocktails were nice and strong, staff was very attentive. Food was delicious and came quickly but was slightly overpriced. Would definitely go back though.
Don't be put off by the name this Indian serves fabulous food. Great flavours and spicing and beautifully light nan bread.
The best indian food with indian taste in london
I’ve got to start this off be mentioning the service which could have been a lot better considering how quiet the restaurant was. We waited quite some time for drinks and the mains as well as getting the bill and card machine . Gol guppa shots aren’t quite there with the flavour and the curry dishes were just okay. Restaurant menus also quite sticky considering price and location of the place it could be a lot better .
The food was delicious. Definitely recommend the veg samosas. Great for veg and non veg cusine.
I have been this restaurant twice and trust me i came back not only with good taste and also with some good memories. Such a wonderful person who served me the food on 22nd Nov'17 and I really appreciate for serving complementary special 'Gazar ka haluwa' to my father.
Its our first time visiting Gaylord Restaurant. After a day of shopping around Oxford circus having a nice meal nearby was all we wanted. I have been looking for a good curry place for a while now and I am so glad to have found an outstanding Indian reztaurant. The service was amazing, the staff was super attentive with helping out with our baby and entertaining her. Everything was perfect.
Decent food, sulky impatient service, pushy pricing. Would not repeat
Service as good as ever and nice wine list. The Maharajah Feast is a bit meat-heavy. It’s a handy meal for a business lunch so some vegetarian starters mixed in would be a good idea. Still a top restaurant though.
Very good food in an enjoyable atmosphere and very convenient for Oxford Circus tube station.
This is an excellent example of the genre, the food is lovely the staff are very obliging and the venue is great, clean and comfortable. My only issue is the Toilet is downstairs, and a disabled toilet on the same level would be beneficial.
Excellent food and service. The decor and seating could do with upgrading though!
Service is very slow and the food is average.
So it was friday evening last minute decision. We wanted indian and we had no clue where to go. While looking through the apps for best near me, we found Gaylord. The reviews attracted us big time. We got there and the place in terms of setup was way nicer than what we expected it. Directly seated for 4, even though super busy but we got a booking through open table. The service was great and the welcoming was very nice. Got our drinks wine and beer. Asked for 4 starters including the crab cake, samosa, potatoe cake, scallops, all were great top 2 were samosa and potato. We asked for nan and lamb and chiken curry for mains with steamed rice and rice with lemon. All were very tasty and big portions. Not to forget the dips we got served in the beginning. There was no more room for dessert at all! It was a 38.5 bill per person eventually which is great. Would come back.
I had never heard of this restaurant but booked it regardless of reading a few negative reviews. I was pleasantly surprised, the service was exceptional. The staff went out of their way to ensure we were ok, water was topped up and tables were cleared on time.
Our naan was a bit too crispy which we mentioned and they replaced it straight away with piping hot soft one.
We didn't stay for dessert as we were quite filled up from starters and mains.
A very enjoyable experience and would visit again in the future.
Excellent food and service. We visit regularly and are never disappointed. Would certainly recommend this restaurant.
I booked a table on open table. When I come here on time, there's still "closed" hanging outside. Throughout the whole meal, the lights are barely on with only one waiter. And I got a stomach ache right after I finished.
I am a vegetarian so consider my comments for Veg food only.
The place is good but a bit miss leading (particularly for the deal they offered on opentable). As soon as we got the table, waiter suggested the deal which is offered (3 course meal) is not good specially if you are vegetarian. He said the portions you will get will be very small in this deal. Overall he made us confused and we end up ordering from Ala Carte Menu.
The starters were very good however main course was not as great. Overall we thought the food was not value for money.
Overall its not ideal that you offer a deal and when someone enter the place (on a special occasion) you make them confused. if you are not convinced by your deal, do not offer it at first place.
Gaylord's website still lists a Theatre menu, but they told us they stopped offering it last year. They even discouraged us from a current set menu, denigrating its choices. In the end, instead of a set menu advertised at £14.95. we ended up paying £64.75 for two of us, plus a 12.5% service charge, a total of £72.84 for just two main courses a, a bottle of water, some poppadoms, one ice cream and one coffee. In addition to the cover charge all the ancillary items are overpriced. Good quality, well prepared food, helpful service, but unacceptable pricing policies.
London has a lot of Indian Restaraunts. I find this one very good as I am not an Indian food expert, I can't compare too many. One of my other favorites is no longer in business. The staff has great suggestions and every time I come to london I try to stop here. The food is fresh, interesting and delicious. Atmosphere is warm and cozy. I love the murals.
Quiet and the menu is somewhat confusing price wise...But the food is certainly delicious and authentic. It's quiet at lunchtime despite it's proximity to Oxford Circus. But this means you get to relax in an oasis of calm and eat good food. Certainly would recommend. Their lunchtime specials are quite decent if you're looking for authentic Indian food that is tasty.
Really really bad food and even worst service. Should be shut down
