French Hound Brasserie
The food and service was fantastic. I’ve been to their restaurant in Middleburg before (loved it) and finally got around to trying the Lansdowne one. We started with the Ratatouille pizza and one of my companions had the French Onion soup. Loved them both. I had the Steak Frites and it was fabulous. My companions had the salmon and the duck and both raved.
The place is closing next week. Won't miss it.
They are always consistent with the food, drinks and ambiance. A favorite place to go with or without kids.
We used to love this place when it was in Middleburg a few years ago. Unfortunately, in my opinion it has gone in the wrong direction. The bigger place--almost empty on a Saturday night, by the way--is no where near as warm and inviting. The food was also not nearly as good. Some specifics: a steak frittes with no onglet / hangar steak?!? Now the steak frittes uses a sirloin?!? Why? And to tenderize it, there's a strong marinade--soy sauce, vinegar?--which hides any beef taste. The fries weren't very good. The bread? No self-respecting restaurant in France would dare put that supermarket bake at home fluff on their tables. The bouillabaisse had two small obviously previously frozen shrimp, two overcooked and rubbery scallops; the two small clams and two mussels were fine, as was the white fish. The broth was ok, it did have a garlic and fennel taste, but wasn't knock you out good. I really wanted to (still) like this place after having a number of excellent meals and experiences over the years it was in Middleburg, but I just did not. Won't be returning.
Had a lovely dinner at French Hound! Started with warm French bread perfect for dipping with our escargot appetizer. Yum! Then had mussels and salmon for our entrees. Food and service were all excellent. Highly recommend.
The food was very good - perhaps not outstanding but very good - the mussels were excellent and the bread also. The choice of wine was very good and the server was excellent. I only didn't give it a higher overall rating because the ambiance could be improved. Decor is pretty casual for a French restaurant with good food.
We go there frequently. Food well prepared and good value for the price. Excellent service. We will keep going back.
Surprised as how few people were here. Food was great, and our server was fantastic.
Wonderfully prepared food with attentive service at a very reasonable price. Extensive wine list as well! Truly a formula for a great meal and great experience.
The food was excellent but service mediocre. Our waiter didn’t seem very knowledgeable, was forgetful and not very efficient.
We love it there! Our go-to spot for excellent French cuisine and service.
Went for mother’s day and was truly expecting great things. I was very underwhelmed. No fancy mother’s day menu, server was severely lacking personality and the value was not great. We started with a few small plate apps That were pretty good. Although the radishes with butter and salt were strange. We ordered three kids meals, grilled shrimp and veggies were good, pasta with red sauce was flavorless and the pizza was overloaded with cheese. The can’t swallow it gag you amount. They didn’t have a sirloin so they replaced it with a skirt steak for the same price... my wife had the filet ($45) that was over cooked and lacked flavor as well. The au gratin potatoes were good. She actually preferred my skirt steak. For $136 I’d much rather have gone somewhere else. Don’t think I’ll go back but glad to have tried it.
Food was very good, dessert and cappuccinos were even more amazing. Service was a little slow but all around pleasant. Atmosphere was nice, wasn’t crowded or loud. Would definitely go back again.
Fish special (skate) was predominately flour coating. Fish was served drenched in a huge amount of capers.
We haven't eaten at French Hound since they moved and are sorry we haven't. The lobster pot pie, bacon, apple and blue cheese pizza, and lemon pound cake dessert were great. Well prepared, well served. We'll be back soon!
I recommend trying this place. It is a hidden gem. The food is excellent and the service was amazing.
Nice menu, excellent service, well-prepared food. We will add this place to our “restaurant rotation”.
We love the French Hound Brasserie! This time we brought good friends and our experience was as wonderful as always. We will be back many more times.
Nice place for lunch, a french Bistro ambiance .
I went on a Saturday for lunch and it was not busy at all.
They have a nice little Patio, but the winds were too strong to sit outside. On a nice day I would definitely sit outside.
We had some nice wine , their wine list is affordable and some good choices on the variety
I had the steak frites and it was delicious. The salad was tasty and well prepared and fresh.
The terrine was well presented and tasty.
Definitely will go back and try another offering from the menu.
Beautiful, light and airy space. A menu with something for all tastes. Delicious food. Iced tea was fresh and free-flowing. Our server Jeremy was particularly accommodating.
The French dishes are excellent, while the panini was tasteless according to the diner who ordered it.
Food took a tad longer to get to us, but we are not fussy, plus it gave us longer to chat. They were not hurrying us to eat and get out, which is nice. Fantastic food and cocktails, pleasant waiter, great little place.
Excellent dinner from start to finish! Had escargot, ceasar salad and salmon. All perfectly cooked and presented. Nice cocktails too.
We always love coming here as a family. The food is wonderful and they are kid friendly as well. The staff is very attentive and always ensure our dinners an enjoyable night out.
This is one of our "go to" spots. The food and service are consistently on the mark and exactly what a French Bistro should be. It is such a much better value than most of the options in the Ashburn area.
The food and drinks were outstanding. We had the stuffed quail appetizer, lobster pot pie and filet mignon entrées, and beignets for dessert. The drinks were dirty martini, Kentucky mule, and a bottle of malbec. Our server, Adam, was also excellent. Overall, a great dining experience.
Great neighborhood restaurant! Need to dim the lights, a bit, though. Will make the effort to go more frequently as we live within walking distance.
Live the French Hound. Wish it would move back to Middleburg!
A great neighborhood find. Food is always freshly made and very well prepared. Unpretentious French food. We love the Chorico Pizza.
We had a really nice dinner on Valentine's Day. We went with a couple of special menu items & also from the regular menu. We noticed many of the much loved dishes from the Middleburg menu. We were also impressed with so many new (to us) dishes so we will be back to try them. Service was excellent and the owners were present, which is always a good sign. The wine choices are extensive, and we were given tastings before ordering. There is a separate space for groups, which will keep in mind!
Service needs improvement.
We went for Valentine's Day dinner. The food was good, but not great. The restaurant was too bright for a romantic dinner. We asked for our French fries to be "extra crispy" but they came out as "extra soggy." We were also shocked at the prices ... four star prices, but a three star meal.
We had a very nice lunch here on Valentine's Day. The food and service were great!
We eat at the French Hound all the time. Great food every time.
Ambiance 4 instead of 5 because we loved the Middlesburg location, though it's now only 15 instead of 50 mins away. Food, service, and overall atmosphere never disappoint. Our go to celebration restaurant.
Not great, wouldn’t go back anytime soon.
We go to the French Hound on a regular basis. The food and service are always good. It’s both adult and kid friendly. We look forward to many future dinners there.
