Founding Farmers - Reston
The food was a bit underseasoned. It was decent, but not exciting.
I’ve been to the DC and Tysons FF and out of the three I liked the feel of this one! I especially loved our server! Which sadly I cannot remember her name but she was awesome and I’d definitely like to have her as a server in the future. Also the bakery section smelled absolutely amazing! Definitely worth the drive and my mom had a great dining experience so it was even more exciting to have recommend it to her. ☺️
Really disappointing, we had a reservation for 11 and everything we ordered we got incorrectly and it wasn’t a big deal at first but it started to get annoying.
Oh no! I am very sorry, Loveforfoodie to read about the incorrect food that was served to your party. :( This is an understandable disappointment and I am curious to know if a Manager was involved at all? That said, I will send you a PM with my email address to continue the conversation. -Amy
Food was nothing special. I had the catfish and it was just ok. So was the roast chicken ordered by my husband. The service was very good though.
Service was just ok. Waiter seemed slightly impatient and annoyed. Maybe having a bad day. The food is somewhat overpriced and while everything was good nothing stood out as
“Wow” for us.
Birthday celebrations with a table for 8 are always given a free dessert for the birthday person. Not here. We would have declined but always good to offer.
We just have to wait and ask to get refills on drinks and water. We ended up canceling the extra drink since the wait is too long.
But the food was great! 👌
We went for Mother's Day and it was great. We really appreciated their full menu was available. Preset menus are the absolute worst! We arrived early and headed to the bar as we waited. The cocktails are always top notch, the mixologists know what they are doing. We were enjoying our service at the bar so much, we decided to eat there. The service was seamless and the food so good! This time I tried the Braised Chicken Risotto and it was delicious! If you enjoy excellent cocktails and delicious food, you can't lose at Founding Farmers, Reston. Oh, I forgot to mention the convenient location, it is right at the Wiehle-Reston Metro and they also have affordable valet parking.
Service was almost non-existent - had to hunt down our waitress multiple times. Food on the menu was not available. Way too noisy to have a good conversation.
I always like going to this chain regardless of where they are. Their food and drinks are great.
the cauliflower steak needs help. a nice sauce, not a side of ketchup would be nice, and please season the green beans - they were raw and barely edible
Great place, food is delicious as always. Kat was our waitress, she was very polite, attentive and awesome with our two kids.
Hooray! Thank you so much, Juan for sharing your wonderful review with us! :) -Amy
Tried this location again after Easter. Service was slow then - today extremely. Ran out of crab dip and ordered other apps. They came and we sat with NO silverware or napkins. Finally my husband got up and got it on his own for our table after several wait staff walked past us. The entrees took awhile for not being as busy as earlier in the day. Which was fine but like the first time no one checked for refills on a regular basis or to see if we needed anything. Very disappointed after giving it a second chance after waitstaff issues the first visit.
RRos, thank you for sharing your feedback with us. I am super sorry to read that our service was slow-paced and somewhat inattentive. :/ I understand being let down and we really appreciate you letting us know! Of course, we do hope to have you back for another try & I will send you a PM to touch base about your return. -Amy
Holidays are hard for restaurants, I'm sure, but the service was not good. Servers handing you plates and glasses instead of setting them down--they need some training. As well, my food was barely warm, while my companion's were hot. Mashed potatoes were glazed over like they had seen the heat lamp or worse--just been sitting out. There are better places to drop $150.
The buffet was empty most of our visit. This was a celebration for Mother’s Day and my birthday and we were incredibly disappointed. We usually love our dining experiences at Founding Farmers but this one fell far short. To top it off, they insisted our parking was validated and it was not. We paid even more for a disappointing experience.
We went for Mother’s Day and had to do the weekend brunch. While the food was tasty, it felt more like an upscale Golden Corral experience... but the lines for food were long the buffet was wiped out, and I would have much preferred just table service. When food is so rich sometimes a little bit of everything diverts attention from the stArs. My family felt full and sick afterwards but in general we had a good time getting together. I wish our waitresses Job wasn’t just taking away plates and bringing new silverware. Booths aren’t the appropriate seating style for a mandatory buffet restaurant. We won’t be back for brunch anytime soon—- maybe another meal.
UJsfan, thank you for sharing your brunch feedback with us. We are super sorry that the experience was somewhat disappointing and overall, the value left little to be desired. :/ Our team reads all reviews and will definitely take what you shared into consideration. Of course, we also hope to have you back for another try- maybe for our weekday breakfast- and please call us at 703-988-7333 for any reservation help needed. -Amy
It was just ok, I think other locations are better. Tyson’s definitely has a better brunch. We had reservations for 9:30, still had to wait though there plenty of empty tables, then was taken to a table that hadn’t been cleaned and had to wait additional time to be sat. Food was ok, Tyson’s has better selections.
Great food, great waiter, great ambiance. Something for everyone on the menu. Only "complaint" is how long it takes to eat there. I remember it being slow-ish the first time we dined there last year. But this time, we were there for three hours! We were a party of four. It was Saturday night, the day before Mother's Day... we had nowhere to be so it wasn't an issue. But it seemed really slow.
Food was just ok. The chicken fried steak was bland and the portions were surprisingly small for the price. Ambiance was good and the greeter was very courteous. The waiter left a lot to be desired. Not sure if he was just having a off night or what but he was impatient and just wanted to put our order in without any sort of dialogue.. Not sure I’d go again, especially for any sort of occasion.
Food and waitstaff were great. Had a reservation for six and was placed at a too large (easily would sit 12) table next to the bar. Had people waiting for their tables coming to the bar area and sitting at our table thinking it was a community table. That wasn’t great.
The service was really slow - it took two hours for a main course and desert.
On the menu they listed vegetarian options but don't have them anymore.
They ran out of the special of the day by 6:30PM.
Bummer! Mike, I am so so sorry that service was slow, our menu options were lacking and that we ran out of the special at 6:30pm. We feel badly for these mishaps and appreciate you taking the time to let us know! Our team will surely look into this and make corrections & improvements needed based on your feedback. Thank you for sharing and we hope you'll give us another try soon! Please call us at 703-988-7333 for any reservations you may need. -Amy
Add a damn kids menu.
List all ingredients on menu. My wife got a salad that did not list onions but had onions on it. A large portion of the population does not like onions
Server Recommend a cheese pizza for my 8 year old which was huge. Beyond this it was external spicy. Really?
Thank you, Benjamin for sharing your review with us. I am super sorry this experience was only worthy of 3-Stars and our Culinary Team appreciates your suggestions! We will definitely take your thoughts into consideration and really hope to have you & your family back for another try soon! -Amy
I've been to this location multiple times and have had decent to low standards of service, but today was the worst.
1. Our waiter took 25-30 mins to ask us for drinks.
2. After ordering our drinks it took 20 mins to order our food.
3. I was with my kids (FYI - no kids menu) and the waiter never checked up on us for refills or clearing the table.
4. My kids were splitting a meal and I asked for plates. They never came. My wife had to get up and grab two plates for the host desk/station.
5. Other guest were complaining about the service and the Manager checked on "those" who looked frustrated, but did not bother to look our way. I never play this card, but I was super offended. We literally were right next to the couple that had the same complaints and they gotten taken care of.
Overall, I paid my entire bill with 20% tip, but best believe I will NEVER come to this location. I was offended by the manager and disappointed in the service.
I hesitated to post anything after our first few times here because I assume there are always kinks to work out. But now having eaten here several times and comparing against the Tyson’s location, it’s easy to say the Tyson’s location is by far better. At this location, the food is not as good and the service is rough around the edges. We started with the purple and black kale salad. Not sure where the color came from - it was just standard green chopped kale. My husband had fried chicken jambalaya although it was more like an interpretation because it was just some chicken and salad on top of rice. Nothing jambalaya about it. We ordered several cocktails. While the descriptions were appealing, they all missed the mark. Most seemed watery. The highlight was the impossible meatloaf but the sides were much too salty. All this said, I’m sure it will do fine. It’s a good location and has a nice atmosphere. But if you want good food and service, drive another 15 minutes and head to the Tyson’s location.
CBAB2000, thank you for sharing your review with us. I am very sorry that this visit failed in comparison to the experiences you've had at our Tysons Founding Farmers. :/ We really appreciate that you shared the details of the dishes needing improvements and our Culinary Team will look into this. We also will apply what you shared towards any corrections needed to measure up to the quality of our offerings at our Tysons FF. Of course, we hope to have you back for another try sometime soon! -Amy
Wasn’t busy so got seated right away. Once ordered, it took a long time for drinks, appetizers and main courses to show up (just shy of an hour for the main course). When the food arrived my macaroni was cold, along with the green beans. The chicken however was hot and quite good. I’m assuming the side dishes were plated while waiting for the chicken to finish. I considered sending it back but since it was a special occasion I didn’t raise my displeasure to the staff. Everyone else’s food was just okay. For the $$ spent, I expected way more.
Aaron, thank you so much for sharing your review with us and letting us know about the mishap with the sides on your plate. I am very sorry this happened, along with the slow service & delay in seating. We appreciate you shedding light on these areas and our team will look into this & apply your feedback towards the improvements needed to the overall quality experience we aim to provide. -Amy
My sons and I celebrated Mother's Day with my wife and their mother. Your staff made it an enjoyable event.
Mother’s Day a day early
It’s hard to find. You have to park in a garage, go outside and then try to find it. Otherwise, great meal.
Glad we made a reservation as the restaurant filled up quickly at 6 pm on a Friday. Service was quick and very courteous. Appetizer suggestions of the bacon “lollies” and cornbread were a hit. All of the entrees were enjoyed by our party of four. Great choices on the menu. Something for everyone. Highly recommend for a night out. Delicious food and great service this trip.
I’ve been to other locations and this was the worst. The service was incredibly slow. My drink order did not arrive until my dinner was served. The food was mediocre. The atmosphere is fun.
FussyGirl, I am very sorry to read that your experience was met with extremely slow service and a drink order that arrived after your meal. This is an understandable let down and we appreciate you letting us know. We will definitely look into what you shared about the lacking service and also consider the improvements needed towards the preparation of our many offerings. -Amy
Kevin was by far the best server my boyfriend and I ever had. He was very knowledgeable and friendly. I could not have started off a surprise birthday breakfast any better! We enjoyed ourselves so much, and we will be back very soon.
Interesting and innovative concept. Valet is very convenient.
Founding Farmers is one of our favorite chain. The food, staff, and ambiance are always superb. This location is no different. Had a wonderful meal and will be back again.
Food was good. Fried chicken was not as good as it usually is. Slightly dry. Waiter could have at least checked more than once about refilling drinks, especially since we were there for as long as we were.
This was my 3rd time to Founding Farmers and it's been wonderful each visit. The menu has a huge variety and everything we've ordered has been fantastic. The servers are very attentive and happy to answer questions and help with special requests. My dad was with us this time, and he eats out a lot in the Orlando area, including all of the famous chef's restaurants, and he stated that this was some of the best food he had ever had.
Awww! Thank you, Sarah for sharing your wonderful review with us and please give your dad our appreciation, too! ;) -Amy
I've been to other locations and have enjoyed the brunch, but this one was really disappointing on many levels. They were out of a lot of things and in the hour and a half we were there, did not replenish the proteins, especially. We had to wait 10 minutes before anyone even looked at us to see if we wanted to order something or do the brunch, but since no one arrived, we just went into the brunch room ourselves. About 10 minutes after that, someone finally came to take our drink order. My husband ordered eggs Benedict (server said it was included w the $32 fee) and it never came. We were really disappointed how much we paid for a mediocre "meal" since we didn't get a lot to choose from to eat-- not to mention, the food itself didn't look that appetizing when bowls were scraped clean by other guests. Overall, a very poor experience.
Rebecca, thank you for taking the time to share your brunch review with us. I am super sorry to read that there were many disappointments that you took away from this visit and I feel badly this experience missed the mark. :( That said, I would love to touch base and will send you a PM with my contact info. -Amy
I was not at all impressed by this location. I kept comparing it to Tysons that is always outstanding.
The service was friendly that was good but the food was always Luke warm and that is a turn off for a buffet. No one came around with samples and there were no soup bowls. The carving station was sad and the meat was very fatty. I will not go to this location at all I will go to the Tysons location because I am never disappointed.
Food choices at the buffet were great. Watch out for the extra's though. A small glass of orange juice was $5, which is highway robbery.
Fun staff and good food! the cinnamon rolls are recommended highly but the platter was always empty! :( However, there's plenty of choices- and we did not walk away hungry. The coffee is excellent- For the price, the first mimosa or bloody mary could be on the house or at least discounted drinks! It won't keep us away for special occasions!
A great brunch experience. Go hungry - you’ll want to try everything.
