El Torito - La Mesa
The food was good. Our server, Gilberto was AWESOME! I will go back and request one of his tables. He was attentive to our every need and request!!
Outstanding service quality of food welcoming service attention to making all requests and dinner memorable- Thank you Gilberto
Excellent tasty meal Great atmosphere fun!
Used open table to reserve for Christmas night December 25th. The place was way understaffed, many unbussed tables. Many empty tables. But many people waiting to be seated. Had to wait approximately 40 minutes for chicken tortilla soup to be cooked. My special of the day chile relleno and taco plate were pretty cold when it arrived. Probably sitting under a heat lamp for most of those 40 minutes. There were five of us. El Torito used to be a good value. I won't be going back to any of them for quite a while. Gave the waiter a decent tip... it wasn't his fault. Terrible experience. Should probably close down this location.
We went on Christmas Day, so I understand that they were understaffed... tables were dirty, there were maybe two servers for the entire restaurant with no busers and one hostess. We had a reservation and were sat promptly... but we waited about 15 minutes before the waiter came. He was great... he had his work cut out for him and he was moving quickly and was attentive as he could be considering he was working more than half the restaurant. Food was okay... chips were great!
The waiter had excellent customer service....very friendly and reliable
This was supposed to be a special night out. It was memorable for all the wrong reasons. It took almost an hour to receive our food after ordering. It was not busy, so there was no reason to be that slow. Our server never came by with an explanation. He avoided us completely. When we finally got our food it was not as requested. Our drinks were never refilled. It was so bad that it was actually funny. The all you can eat special was only the portion he brought. We never got another order, we'd probably still be there waiting for it. We did talk to the manager who really didn't care. This new management is awful and I would highly recommend going elsewhere.
We celebrated my mom's 97th birthday and the restaurant was fun and the food was great. Our server, Luis was wonderful and accommodating for such a large group. He was very sweet to my mom.
Service is always excellent! This time it was Luis-he’s great and helps with ordering the right thing. Food was exceptional with good portions and the margaritas are some of the best!
This place was run down and empty. The food wasn’t the same like years ago—was just plain and flat of flavor. I will NOT go into any El Toronto. I’m an Spanish guy and most of the time the waiters are very Rude, maybe is because they to like to serve another Spanic person. That’s called being “Races”.
Friendly and funny service from our server, Carlos. Everything we ordered was flavorful and yummy. We will definitely be back!
El Torito has always been a great place for home style Mexican cooking. This is last location in SD County - let’s keep it open!
Great experience. Food was always fresh and the staff looked like they were working really hard to make sure every food item was always full.
When i got to the restaurant after i had made a reservation the day before there was no table ready for me. After 20 minutes they finally had us sit down but the waiter was terrible. He was nice but he forgot to bring us silverware and when he did bring it it was only 1 setting for 3 people. My iced tea was watered down and the waiter only came to our table once to check up on us. This was my moms experience for her 62nd birthday and 10 years of being cancer free. I am very dissapointed this was how she celebrated her day. When it was time for the check the waiter gave the table next to us their check first even though we were there before them and were also done with our meal. He hovered over my fiance when it was time to pay and give a tip on the ipad using his credit card. Suffice it to say we did not tip them. I have been here before and i enjoy the food but for 30 dollars i expect to have a pleasant experience along with delicious food and this was not the case. The quality of service has gone down too much for me to consider coming back here again unfortunatley.
Great service from Reynaldo
There was a slight mixup regarding taco Tuesday. Your staff were quick and very polite and everything was great. You have a great team.
We love coming for brunch. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
We enjoyed our meal overall, but our table was pretty close to others, so felt a little cramped. Also, we were happy with service, except my elderly uncle had too much to drink, it was obvious, and my aunt requested that he NOT be served again. The waiter ignored her request. I get that it can be tricky, but when a customer is obviously intoxicated, I would think the waiter/waitress could always rely on a. laws, b. a manager c. support of others present at the table.
We had a great time celebrating a birthday. Staff was so friendly and really good selections for brunch
Great food and service.
Looooove this place!! It’s our new favorite spot and their salsa is incredible 👌🏼👌🏼
Are waitress was great thanks
The food was not replaced at regular intervals to keep fresh food available and replenish items. The omelettes were good and the girl making them was very friendly. The girl making tortillas was also very nice. Many of the items on the buffet did not have labels and looked like they had been sitting there since the restuarant opened that morning (we were eating at 1pm). The self serve drinks were not replenished once they were emptied and the ones that were there were nowhere near the temperature they were supposed to be at (hot or cold).
Good Mexican food at a reasonable price. Look for coupons in the LA Times for an even better price. Service was fast and friendly. Portions generous so we didn’t have dessert! Next time.
My enchiladas they didn’t even attempt to melt the cheese. Sodas are 3.50 wow.
The menu has changed yet again. My favorite, taco salad, has changed in the wrong direction. The prices are too high now and they automatically put a surcharge on top of your bill (and tip). Now I know why so many of their locations have closed down.
The food here was decent. Some was better than others. The chiles rellenos wasn't very good which was disappointing as it's my favorite thing to order at Mexican restaurants. The dip was good, the fajitas my daughter ordered were cooked pretty well, and the taco was pretty good. The chips tasted old and the tamale was not good at all. Our waiter was very friendly however we did not see him very often. He took almost twenty minutes to take our drink order then didn't come back for so long that the hostess came over and asked us what drinks we wanted. The hostess was great! Also after we got our drink I never received a single offer to refill my drink until we asked for the check. The place was not very busy at all so i was honestly surprised the service was so slow. The look of the restaurant was fine. Nothing really fancy but not exactly shabby either. Overall it was ok but honestly I probably wouldn't go out of my way to go back.
Good food and excellent service. We enjoyed the Mexican brunch buffet. Lots of good choices & delicious Menudo too. A little disappointed that there were no omelets or egg dishes or Mimosas offered.
We enjoyed a semi-private space for 15 people. Our waiter was courteous and responsive to our needs. He was an excellent representative of the staff who overall were warm and receptive and adapted well to our group dynamic. Not easy to do with lively, rambunctious, young people with large appetites! He even took our group photo.
The turkey was tough. The rice pudding was hard. The coffee was cold.
Absolutely terrible experience. Worst Thanksgiving "food" imaginable. The "turkey" was leftover rubber, and the Mexican food was so salty it tasted like it had come out of the red sea. The dessert bar was a desert, with empty plates and crumbs. My wife had severe stomach pains later that night (probably from the shrimp). They also lied when I made the reservation, saying champagne was included (it wasn't). Absolute ripoff. Never going back.
Food was good, ran out of most beers so selection wasn’t very good. Had reserved for 30 people, service was good.
The sour cream enchiladas were delicious. The chips were not as fresh as I have been other times we that were there and the salsa was a bit spicier. However everything else was wonderful. T
