I was looking for a place where I could have a casual but nice dining experience (i.e. not a white table cloth fancy steak house and not a hole in the wall). District Commons was a great medium. I had the catch of the day Bronzino as did one of my clients. The other had one of the Mussels dishes. They also had a special sandwich of the day, Roast Beef au Jus which looked FIRE! but I was trying to stay lite. Fried green tomatoes were VERY good with shrimp and a vinegary red sauce on top (recommend). Service was great, not over bearing but on point and available when needed. Everything on the menu looked good to me and I will definitely be going back. I am glad I found this place on OpenTable.
The staff was courteous and very accommodating. Our waitress was professional, to the point and knowledgeable. Food was great and they did everything they could do to accommodate our restless family (with little ones). The pretzel was great! Could have had two more of those. I really liked the grits. And brunch was light but good. Ordered eggs and potatoes. Chocolate cake desert was outstanding. The part that was cake has the texture of mousse. It was magical. We will be visiting again! Besides, what adult doesn’t like bottomless mimosas!
Nice food, great ambience, but it was toooo noisy.
Good location. Fast service. Good food.
Great food, great service, great atmosphere.
Great food and nice service. Does get busy and crowded on the weekends
But not to anyone with hearing problems! The noise level was overwhelming!
Good food. Great service. A little loud. And the booth seats always make you think you need a booster seat.
Very friendly staff all around, and the food was phenomenal. The service was nothing short of fantastic. I was there with my wife to celebrate a very special occasion -- our waitress took note of this and welcomed us with a glass of champagne on the house.
Boyfriend and I started with the cinnamon sugar pretzel baguette which was really good. The seasonal butter that came with it was phenomenal. Boyfriend had crab cake sandwich and I got the brunch quesadilla, both were okay. Crab cake didn’t have any crisp, and there wasn’t enough egg in the quesadilla. Mimosas had too much orange juice. The brownie sundae was good—nice soft brownie (not warm, but still soft) and the ice cream reminded me of Cold Stone (two thumbs up). Service and ambiance was good. I’d give them another try.
Nice dinner with great service. The crab cake was good but just a ketchup container size of cole slaw. Could have used more. My dining partner had the pork chop. I tasted it. I was delicious!
Great servers and large portions
We arrived at 5:30 -- a little before the crowd, and it was very quiet and pleasant. As more people arrived, it remained easy to have a conversation. The food was not outstanding, but it was good for the value and we appreciated being close to the Metro and the Kennedy Center bus, which we took to the performance. District Commons provided what we were looking for. The service was very good.
Waitress was great brick chicken over couscous was outstanding. We asked about the seasoning on the chicken and the waitress brought us a list. Wonderful evening after a show at the Kennedy Center
Our meals were upscale diner breakfast food. But at full price. OK. But not a good value.
We came in to a half empty restaurant at 5:45pm and the host said it would be an hour wait. I get on open table and make a reservation for 12 minutes later. The place is still half empty, yet we have to stand there for 10 more minutes to get a table. Food was fine.
My server was AMAZING! I was dining by myself, watching a movie and just really trying to relax. He gave me time and space and didn’t rush me.
Consistently excellent food, very good service, very loud. Like, really loud.
Excellent all around. The seafood chowder was fantastic.
We were shown to a table at the back of the restaurant, which turned out to be surprisingly nice since we were able to talk without too much background noise. Really lovely venue for a birthday lunch with co-workers. Lobster roll (special on Monday) was great with plenty of lobster! Portobello mushroom & quinoa was very tasty. Three of us shared chocolate bread pudding with vanilla/bourbon ice cream for dessert (yum)! Service was great - our server Vanessa didn't hover, but was always there when we needed anything. Already looking forward to the next visit!
I love this restaurant however I feel like the lighting keeps getting brighter and brighter. It would be nice to have a little bit more ambience. Other than that the service is great and I love all the US sourced wines etc.
Date night with the hubby. Looking for a bite to eat before a Kennedy Center show.
This place was a must! We cannot wait for a mother excuse to stop back in.
The waiter asked right off if we had a show to get to and from then on he was on the ball!
The food was amazing and service was great
Thank you for joining us at the best pre Kennedy Center Show dinner in Foggy Bottom. We at District Commons are grateful for your feedback and look forward to you joining us again.
The perfect place before Kennedy Center. Flatbreads are wonderful (and large enough to share). Server was particularly helpful in guiding us through the menu as my guest has dietary restrictions. Very accommodating to his needs. Very appreciative of the good service - and delicious dinner.
Great experience as usual. Enjoyed one of favorite items — Seafood Cobb Salad. Yummy! Have not had a bad meal at District Commons ever.
Thank you for your loyalty to us at District Commons. we look forward to your return to the Foggy Bottom area and you joining us for your next dining experience!
I had the Red Mussels and they were delicious. The staff was very attentive. It was a wonderful experience.
The food was good but the service took a really long time and we had to go ask for our waiter.
Thank you for your feedback. I apologize that your dining experience did not meet your expectations. It is never our intention to have our guests wait to be greeted. I would like to discuss this further with you. Please check your private messages I have sent you my contact information.
Our waitress was flustered the whole time because the credit card system went down and she kept forgetting which table she was at etc. then they poured red wine in the water glass. Food was just ok. It was highly recommended so I think it must have just been an off night. Seemed slow for a Friday night.
I was very annoyed by the fact that the restaurant canceled our reservation because we were late (20 minutes) and didn’t even bother to call us. We have been going there for a long time and never missed a reservation.
Today the skirt steak was very poorly seasoned and the table we were sitter was so small that I had to dump the salad on my steak to create room.
We normally get a better service, today was not the case!
The place is not worth the cost. The food is awful just flat un eadiable. What a waste of time and money.
The server we had paid us no attention. We had to speak to a manager in order to get his attention and even still he barely came to the table. He was terrible but the food was really good
Everything was fine, but our waitress took plates and silverware away while I was still enjoying my appetizer
She and a colleague stood right behind our table chatting loudly, kind of distracting...
Restaurant was fairly quiet, so not sure why we were seated at a tiny table between others when there was plenty of space...
This experience was not my first at district commons, and I have to say that I’m utterly disappointed. The hostess was rude and acted as tho she was too bothered to seat us. Our waiter was inattentive and didn’t check on us or the table behind us ONCE. We saw him socializing in the corner with the other staff, but he couldn’t be bothered to attend to us. It took 20 minutes after finishing desert for us to see him again, and when we did he walked right past his tables without even looking at us. We had to flag him down for our check. The staff was completely aloof and unaware. As someone who has worked in the food service industry, I know that this attitude and atmosphere comes from poor management.
Dinner was fine but not filling and not worth the price. Desert (creme brûlée) was cold on top and not tasty at all.
Overall, very disappointed.
Perfect spot for dinner and a cocktail before a show at the Kennedy Center.
I had requested a table in a quiet section and to my delight, we were ushered to a table beyond everyone else's that was in a quiet alcove. We were so pleased and thoroughly enjoyed the food, the wine, the service and the evening! Thank you District Commons for being able to accommodate those "of a certain age" whose hearing is challenged in a noisy restaurant.
Server was very nice. The blower level was a bit high.
The service and the food are always excellent at District Commons. Everything is consistently excellent. Sammy and Jasmine are way above par as servers. I can always depend on District Commons people and food.
Great food and great atmosphere. It was a great Wednesday night dinner. Thank you
Loved it! Great service, great food!
Always a fun place with great energy. The old fashioned cocktail was subpar but the Manhattan was enjoyable. The food was outstanding. We will continue to return when in town.
