Eggplant Parmesan was tough, did not seem cooked. Chicken Piccata and house salads were very good. Liked the live music and atmosphere.
Calamari appetizer was terrible. The rings were so thin that you all you tasted was fried bread crumbs,
We ordered pizza with mushrooms and meatballs . The crust was tough and the toppings were identifiable as mushrooms or meatballs. Tasted like frozen pizza .
Our waiter told us that the restaurant did not have a pizza oven and still using the oven from the previous owner “ Marie Calender’s”
Sausage calzone was equally bad , crust very tough.
We also ordered a sausage calzone , the dough was very tough .
We gave this place a second chance because it's so near to our house. Both times we were left with the impression that the kitchen relies too heavily on the microwave oven.
One of us got the combo of spaghetti, ravioli and lasagna. It was like someone took portions out of the refrigerator and heated it up... not fresh at all. The angel hair Pomodoro was completely under seasoned. Pasta water should taste like the ocean so that the pasta isn't bland.
The bread wasn't over-microwaved as it was last time, so that was good.
The service was cheerful and attentive and the patio was very nice. Too bad about the food, though.
Great place with atmosphere and fun bar with live music. Food is delicious!
We were on vacation and came across the restaurant and it was excellent! The staff was fantastic! They set us up in a private room as we were celebrating 2 birthdays and the service was top notch. Monica was very attentive, welcoming and friendly. The food was absolutely delicious and we would definitely go back. Restaurant and staff did not disappoint.
The menu is "old school" Italian, which is fine. But I think if they added some more healthy options, even if not traditionally Italian, they would bring in many more customers. Too many people in So. Cal. now want healthy foods heavy on vegetables. Even if one person loves the traditional Italian food, their partner might want a more vegetable-heavy option. This would also distinguish them from competing Italian restaurants. (Macaroni Grill, etc.)
Loved the service, food was great and the ambiance was great! People on the reviews complained the food took to long. Your food is being cooked fresh enjoy that!
The food was okay, but pricey for the quality. The service was slow and poor. But what REALLY irked me is that they imposed a 4% surcharge on the entire bill without telling me beforehand or posting a notice. When I complained to the wait staff about this, they said, yes, we get that complaint a lot but there's nothing much we can do about it because it's the owner's policy. And they then showed me utterly tiny, tiny print at the bottom of the menu (so small, it's hard to read) explaining the 4% surcharge.
Spaghetti With house marinara was very good, sausage and pepper was also very good. with the deep red rich age sauce. good quality balsamic vinegar and oil for fresh bread. yum.
Food service was not as good we had to track down waiter, bus boy, bartender, to get condiments, water refill, reorder drinks etc. Under staff? I see lots of hands but slow service. No explanation for 4% sur charge not on menu or website. Maybe entertainment? It was good group lively , top tapping, great to hear good music were Acoustic & speakers not adequate. Dave Scott and Bobby Lanuza AREWELL WORTH 4%. MY $87.00 BILL + 15% TIP NEVER REFILL MY SECOND CUP OF COFFEE, HAD TIRAMISU DESERT WITH WATER. OVERAL EXPERIENCE OK, MY GUEST WANTS TO GO BACK, HOPEFUL IT WILL IMPROVE NEXT TIME. FRANK SINATRA AND OTHER JAZZ SOME VOCAL MUSIC. ALL GOOD.
This is my third trip to DiCicco's. Their food tastes unique to me, it's more savory than tangy. I love the meatballs most! I do recommend trying them.
Everything about this place was great!! Highly recommend.
This was our second time and we absolutely love the place ♥️I’d give you 30 stars if I could
First time at DiCiccos! Great food, service and loved the live music! Thank you for making my birthday amazing! Will be back soon 🙂
Great food, great price and wonderful staff as always. Try the fried ravioli with marinara, you'll like it.
Super salty food, WAY overpriced.
They tried to charge an additional unexplained 4% surcharge! When I asked what it was for I was told Covid, and higher minimum wage! Seriously, a waste of $100.
We are new to Escondido and are looking for our goto pizza and Italian dish place. This one hit the mark. We were very satisfied with all our meals which included pizza, gluten-free pizza, antipasta salad, Cesar salad with steak, lasagna, rigatoni, and steak dinner. Everything was great. Orders came our just as specified. Service was perfect. Attended to, but not forgotten or overly present. Thank you for a great time.
Love this place! Great atmosphere and great food!
Nice to have a new Italian option in Escondido!
Food and service were both good! I do wish all the dishes included a salad, however. I really enjoyed the food though and the re-do of the former Marie Callender's was done nicely. Will go again!
The food was not good. My wife had the manicotti and the meatballs tasted as if they were made with soy beans. I had the lasagna and it was average at best. The cheesecake was really good though. I would not recommend this restaurant if you are looking for good Italian food.
Good food good service. Will return for more with friends.
Anniversary dinner with friends was very pleasant and low key. We invited two couples who had not been to the restaurant and they were pleased with the good food snd quiet atmosphere.
Without a doubt one of the best Italian meals I have had. Our group had the chicken parmesan, eggplant parmesan, lasagna, and the sirloin. Everyone said how flavorful everything was. It's rare to be able to taste the eggplant in eggplant parmesan, but you could, and it was delicious. I think our server was new, making rookie mistakes like taking too long to bring us something essential like silverware, but she was nice and was clearly trying. But the food was outstanding! Definitely will be back!
This was the first time trying the new DiCicco's and we were surprisingly pleased. They did a great job of renovating the old restaurant they replaced... very nice. The food was really great. We seldom find a restaurant that can create a really delicious caesar salad dressing, but we were very pleasantly surprised... they did it! The one issue for us was the feeling that, due to short staffing, our server, who was great otherwise, had an urge to try to move us along faster than we wished. She had to juggle her workflow and us ordering quickly would enable her to better manage that flow... etc.... Overall, it was a great experience!
Really enjoyed our first visit to DiCicco’s! The restaurant itself is beautiful. Clean, spacious, thoughtfully decorated, etc. Whenever I see cannelloni on an Italian menu I order it. Not a common dish at most Italian restaurants. The serving here includes your choice of two meatballs or Italian sausage link. The cannelloni here is excellent. Served adequately hot, too. The add on side house salad was really impressive. Almost like an antipasto with the addition of meats and cheeses. I’ll definitely be coming back here.
Service was a little slow. Bartender was our waiter so he had to do both however very friendly. Food was very good.
Great food and excellent service!
The food was good, but nothing "special". Basic simple standard Italian menu favorites. The minestrone soup and chicken parmigiana were good.
The bread pudding desert was a MUST HAVE.
That desert elevated the caliber of the rest of the meal.
The service was warm, friendly and attentive.
Great service! Will definitely take the family there again.
Food was ok, service was ok.
A new and upcoming place in San Diego with excellent fresh italian food and plenty of choices. We have been impressed in the 3 times we have been here.
We love this place!
Cocktails were good. Food was fine; lasagna better than previous occasion.
Overall quite nice. Waitress was knowledgeable and friendly. My only gripe was
the entree came out literally 5mins after salad delivered. Sorry, this is a big issue
of mine. Believe the kitchen was running at full speed while dining room less than
half full. We’ve been to DiCiccos before and will return.
Added 4pct surcharge on the bill left a bad taste in our mouths after a subpar meal comparable to Olive Garden. Service was outstanding though.
If you need the 4 percent that much, just RAISE THE PRICE OF THE FOOD, rather than hiding it. Deceptive business practices aren’t ok.
We will NEVER come back.
Wanting to try this new restaurant, we took a college graduate and his family for lunch and were very pleased with the meal and service. We were able to be seated on a semi-private room which was great for the occasion. We will be back!
I am loving the manicotti with Alfredo sauce. OMG!
Went for wife’s birthday. All dishes were very good.
Our overall experience was excellent. We will definitely be back.
LOVE the fireplace and live music. Love the dark classy lounge with the bullet button on the leather/pleather? This was my second DELICIOUS meal. (first was the spaghetti limone and this time ravioli marsala. YUM. Red wine pinot noir 10$ was fair. Sangiovese better.Love the lite up bar area. This time I didn't notice any crashing glasses/bottles. Our server was apathetic. Both of us did not think he was friendly or attentive enough.
Every one was friendly and had great service and also food was excellent. Didn’t have to wait got seated right away. Would recommend this place.
