From the minute you call the restaurant you can tell you are in the care of highly trained staff. The food is amazing, but the attentive staff are unparalleled.
Cowboy Star was an excellent dining experience. When we walked in, we were immediately greeted by the hostess and led to our table within two minutes. The waiter brought out our waters right away and quickly provided drink menus. Shortly after taking our drink order (great wine selections btw), they brought out an enjoyable bite from the chef to "awaken our palates". We started with the tasty buttery rolls and an order of the oysters, which were amazing, so we ordered more. The Ribeye and Dry Aged Ribeye steaks were tender and cooked to perfection and the mashed potatoes and asparagus were also delicious. We also added the Roasted Bone Marrow (a must order), which melted in our mouths like butter. We ended with the Chocolate Bon Bon for dessert, which I am not sure if they made it there or if it just fell out of heaven.
If you love a great steakhouse and are looking for a topnotch dining experience, I highly recommend Cowboy Star. Everything about our dining experience was great from the friendly and attentive staff to the amazing meal and the rustic décor. This is a great place to celebrate your special occasions.
Amazing place! Great service and food! Not one thing bad to say, it was worth every penny!
Excellent food and excellent attentive service. The best Charcuterie plate I've ever had.
Food and service were excellent. Of course that level of excellence comes with a price tag. Bring your credit card! That said, everything we had was fantastic and I would definitely go to Cowboy Star again!
We enjoyed our meal overlooking the kitchen. The restaurant itself is beautiful, the steaks are delicious. Our waitress wasn’t very attentive so we spent a great deal of time waiting for her. Overall a wonderful restaurant, we would go back to try it again.
Took my wife for our Anniversary for her first time she enjoyed herself and the recommendations of her drinks from Laurie our waitress so we had to try all she offered lol. Great place for special occasions thank you
This was our first time dining at Cowboy Star and we couldn't ask for a better experience. My wife and I came to celebrate our 15th Wedding Anniversary and had an outstanding dinner. The cocktails were crafted perfectly, appetizers amazed, and the steaks were next level. The menu offers a wide variety of choices and we selected the Dry Aged Ribeye and Wagyu Skirt Steak, both of which were served with 2 sides which was a bonus you don't see at many high end steak houses. I highly recommend both steak selections but the Wagyu skirt steak offered was so unique and better than advertised...will definitely order that again on our next visit.
The best steak I have ever eaten.
The service was outstanding and the food was just as good. The the handcrafted cocktail was delicious. The star of our night was the 45 day dry aged tomahawk. We were celebrating my husband's birthday and the nice touch of having the menu personalized is special
Awesome service best steakhouse I been too lately
Cowboy Star is always an amazing experience! From the food to the service to the ambiance. It’s one of our favorite places to have a good quality date night!
The food was just ok. Nothing spectacular for the price. I would say Flemings’s and Del Friscos are better overall.
The wine selection was minimal, service was intermittent and the dessert (pound cake) was extremely dry.
My Wagyu steak was good. Nothing wrong with it. Just not worth the price.
It was really nice but took over an hour getting a steak
We went there for my wife’s birthday, they treated us like royalty and the food, as always, was spectacular!
The food was excellent and service was superb. The dry aged ribeye was amazing and worth the pricetag. I highly recommend! The restaurant itself is nicely designed and a great experience.
Only negative is that tables are very close and we were sat next to some people who were a little loud and dropping f-bombs. It made the otherwise lovely restaurant drop the ambiance a notch. I don't know what the restaurant employees could have done about it though.
My experience was great and I’m sorry that my guest that was with me was very drunk and unfortunately caused a bit of a scene. It was hard for me to say anything because he’s a client of mine and we just closed on a property so it was really tough for me to say anything and I really apologize for that. 9/12 was our reservation and Tammy Krug is my name. Thank you for how your staff handled the situation.
It was so good!!! I would go back !!! Or I should say we will be going back
The best steakhouse in SD! There wasn’t anything I’d complain about. Superb service and even better food. We got the porterhouse and added mac-n-cheese. The best mac-n-cheese I’ve ever eaten! The pork belly appetizer was to die for and the chocolate chip bread pudding was icing on the cake. The service was top notch, great atmosphere, and overall excellent date night.
Traveling with friends for a birthday celebration. Our waiter Luis was amazing & the food was spectacular. We will go back again soon.
I wish there were more vegetarian options on the menu. We had the best server and he made our experience wonderful. Wonderful drinks food and it was very expensive obviously because of how fancy it was but nice to try the new experience!
Exceptional Service and food. Great ambiance. The best steak in town!
Drinks were good, but after that, the experience was pretty disappointing. The food was nothing special, especially for the price. The wine list was very high-priced and the choices "by the glass" were very limited. Service seemed rushed. The main dining area was extremely noisy.
Excellent in every way. Delicious and great ambiance. And not too loud!
Solid, old school food and drink. Spacing - or lack of it - was concerning.
The food was delicious and service was fantastic. We will return soon.
Def a great place to have a cocktail and steak. Love going here again and again.
Recently moved, but Cowboy Star is my first stop when I come back into town
Outstanding in every way.
Absolutely amazing. Cowboy Star is a must!
The food was great, the service was excellent. We had a very pleasant dinner.
Always a fantastic dining experience. The best steak restaurant in San Diego. Ask for Luis who is the best server I’ve ever had the pleasure of dining woth
Excellent service and food. I highly recommend the steakhouse
Had a great dinner! Steaks were excellent. All but 1 of the drinks were very good. Having a booth was really nice to reduce the background noise too. Service was excellent!
We just love it!! Food, service and great drinks
Amazing food, atmosphere and service! Highly recommend.
This place is always a hit. Great food and drinks!! Our waiter Luis was awesome, he was exceptional in all areas!!! Happy Hour is a must!! Save room for dinner!!!
I think we may have just been the victim of bad timing with a late reservation, zero parking because of the concert downtown, and a staff that clearly (and fairly) just wanted to go home.
That said, while the cocktails and starters were amazing our entrees were anything but. My fiancée got the sea bass special and had to eat around the overcooked tough skin. I ordered a NY strip off the waiter’s recommendation and had to ask for 3 (!) different knives to try to cut it. Either the knives need sharpening or the steak was overdone. But my hands are still sore from my attempts.
As the restaurant closed (again, late reservation, I get it) the wait staff moved on the side work and we were left waiting for dessert (it was still a birthday celebration) and the check when we were ready. The 5 star service went out the window as soon as the restaurant closed.
Given the race reviews I’m mostly likely headed back to see if this was just a perfect storm on all parts. I’ll get an earlier reservation and hope for the best. But all in all our visit did not match expectations at all.
