Sat us beside the open door on the coldest day of winter. Asked to move tables multiple times, including immediately after sitting down, but was ignored and rushed through dinner instead. All of our food was stone cold within a few minutes. Wind was literally blowing through my hair. After they cleared our (half-finished) plates our waiter came back to offer us a new table, I guess wanting us to order more even though we didn’t even finish what we ordered to begin with. Total tourist trap, they just want to flip tables as fast as possible. Bill came out to about $100CAD for two dishes and water. Save your money and go somewhere else.
Great food and service!!
Everything was delicious. The staff was super friendly and I loved that the ambiance wasn't stuffy. I would definitely come back here.
The best food we had in CDMX
A delightful and delicious experience! Contramar is not a restaurant that disappoints in the face of its high profile. The food was amazing--incredibly fresh, flavorful and not fussy. The service was outstanding. It was our last meal in Mexico and the best! I wish I lived close so I could return again and again and try everything on the menu. If you are going to CDMX, don't miss the chance to eat here.
The servers and other associates at Contramar are the key to their appeal. Our server, Ramone, who has worked there for years, brings so much spirit and enthusiasm to the table that you can’t help follow along. The food, of course, is wonderfully prepared — both simple and sophisticated.
My favorite place in Mexico City
Nunca falla en contramar. De los mejores de mariscos
Tuna tostados and red snapper were excellent. Everything else was ordinary.
A lively, friendly, delicious experience. Of 3 restaurants I ate in, in Mexico City, this was my favorite.
Contramar exceeds all expectations. We are pescatarian and all recommendations led us here in Mexico City.
Such a great relaxed vibe. Impeccable attentive service and attention to our dietary restrictions and were still able to accommodate.
Happy we didn’t sit outside, it was a little chaotic.
The food, the flavors, the aromas. Outstanding. Mezcal options were great, and plenty of desserts.
English menus & English speaking waiters that can explain the menu.
We will definitely return on our next visit to CDMX.
La comida deliciosa, todos los ingredientes frescos y cocinados a la perfección, el servicio excelente
Very disappointing. For such a nice restaurant, the quality was terrible — the food made us extremely sick.
We ordered the oysters and immediately noticed that they were bad/ too old (did not taste fresh, and it was very noticeable from the taste that were rancid). We did not finish them and sent them back because of the taste. We got extremely sick 8-12 hours later.
I am extremely cautious in blaming a restaurant, especially one as nice as this, because it is hard to prove. However, the rancid taste of the oysters was unmistakable. And the timing perfectly coincided.
Contramar has such high ratings, but I would avoid. There are plenty of other nice restaurants In CDMX that do not make you sick.
Atmosphere is great but food is just ok. Very expensive for what you get. Did not meet the expectations set by previous reviews.
Everything was amazing! From the food, service, and ambiance. This is the kind of place you wanna take your time enjoying your meal. Tuna tostadas (Tostada de Atun) is the bomb! The only thing I found a bit weird, maybe coming from the US was, I ordered the oysters and they didn’t cut the adductor muscle. I thought it was bizarre cause it made it a bit harder to eat and not how it was usually served in the US, but when in Mexico!
Great space and delicious food. Staff was on it and very helpful! Enjoy!
Incredible seafood, vibe and experience. The tuna tostada and grilled fish with green and red sauces lived up to the hype. Super fun and yummy.
The food was fairly uninspired, and overrated. We chose this venue based on the reviews, but were fairly disappointed with the food.
Service, however was excellent.
Amazing. As always.
Mi amore and I spent the day walking CDMX and finished off with a wonderful dinner and experience at Contramar. Would recommend and most definitely come back.
Food was good but definitely overhyped. Pickled octopus was bland and tacos were okay. Expensive for the taste experience. Service was lovely and the restaurant is a nice location to dine in. Overall wouldn't return, but not impressed.
The food was great, the drinks and wine were awesome. We felt a bit rushed because the kitchen was closing, but once we got our food ordered, our experience was lovely
Mucho ruido y la comida desabrida El servicio del mesero Sergio es espectacular Los precios altísimos respecto a la cantidad servida
Fabulous- everything I expected and more! I would recommend every item we ordered except the salads.
I would love less dressing on the salad - we tried two and both were soggy - as if dressed twenty minutes earlier.
The ceviche was sublime!
Great service, friendly waiters, but felt rushed.
Best food, outstanding service
Not sure about recommending this place.
The food was fresh and good— the service was so rushed that by 6:30PM, with a reservation at 6:oops we were, basically finished with our meal. There last reservation for a Tuesday is 6:30pm, guess the staff wanted to go home.
Extremely efficient and friendly service, but it’s intense and you feel a bit like you’re on an assembly line—like they’re just trying to turn over tables.
Amazingly attentive energetic service, spectacular and exciting food. A must do experience in Mexico City
This was by far one of my favorite restaurants in CDMX! My husband and I went for lunch and it was packed but not annoying. The food was so fresh and everything we ordered was very tasty. Loved the Tuna Tostadas and the house salsa that is served right when you arrive. The contramar ceviche was also amazing and the house speciality fish with adobo rub and parsley. I would totally recommend!
Our sever Edwin created an amazing experience for us. On point recommendations, humor and of course great service. Contramar is one of my favorite restaurants in the world!
Our favorite restaurant in Mexico City! In fact, we had to come back twice before we left! The service is impeccable, there is not a single complaint I could make regarding the staff. Everybody is so helpful, informed, and accommodating in every way possible. You feel as though you're a personal guest in their home. And the food is the best I've ever had. Between the two of us, we probably ordered between 5-7 dishes each time we went because everything on the menu is so amazing. There's not a single thing that I did not like or would not order again. Each experience was one-in-a-million and we will definitely return each time we visit Mexico City.
Al final despues de cobrar, siento que ya les urgia que desocupara la mesa, fue incomodo
Pues malo que acepten reservas de 6pm y cierren cocina a las 6:30
Amo el lugar, para mí es uno de los mejores restaurantes de México!
I had heard rave reviews so stopped for a quick lunch.
It was sublime! The fish was extremely fresh. The tuna tostadas tasted as if the tuna was sashimi quality. The sea scallops were equally as good. Probably would have ordered more for dinner.
Sat outside so it was not noisy. The whole restaurant was bustling and the service was excellent! Bravo!
Food was good, but the environment was so loud and fast paced that it was almost stressful. It was crazy how fast they wanted your order, brought your food and cleared everything! Everyone who worked there was sweating and just running around. The food however, was quite good.
