I had heard rave reviews so stopped for a quick lunch.
It was sublime! The fish was extremely fresh. The tuna tostadas tasted as if the tuna was sashimi quality. The sea scallops were equally as good. Probably would have ordered more for dinner.
Sat outside so it was not noisy. The whole restaurant was bustling and the service was excellent! Bravo!
Food was good, but the environment was so loud and fast paced that it was almost stressful. It was crazy how fast they wanted your order, brought your food and cleared everything! Everyone who worked there was sweating and just running around. The food however, was quite good.
It was an amazing experience! Everyone needs to give it a try!
Fun, happening spot. The trout tostada are over the top delicious.
I love this place! Greatest Seafood in the World!
Everything was amazing and delicious! Great service!
El servicio de Jorge y Mario espectacular!!!! Siempre pendientes y súper profesionales. El lugar súper lleno y la comida y bebidas salen súper rápido y todo muy bien presentado y excelente sabor!
Everything was extremely tasty and the staff was super friendly and attentive.
For all the hype as a Mexico City destination restaurant, this was sadly disappointing. We thought the Stone Crab dish used frozen fish, when it was represented as otherwise even though they brought samples to the table. The giant prawns and crab were served with a bland mayonnaise, and nothing else. The ahi tostada was tasty. Desserts were good. Other diner comments about rushed service were unfortunately true--you can be in and out well within an hour. That would be a good thing if it was a business lunch where food was not the focus. We followed the recommendations from our waiter. The upside is that we had more time to explore other venues.
Fastest dinner ever. But taste was perfect.
Carnitas de pescado and tuna tostada were amaze. Not so much the ceviche and octopus galleda
Súper !! Excelente servicio.
They serve the food far too quickly, and force you out of there as soon as they can. We had about 4 waiters try to take our plates away at the end, because they didn’t seem to want to let us stay to savour and enjoy. Food was good, but the experience was lacking, and quite frankly, we all felt a bit sick afterwards from being forced to eat so quickly.
Great restaurant with amazing food. I recommend getting a reservation if you're going Thursday-Sunday.
We ordered the tuna tostadas, the contramar fish, and dessert. The fish came with extremely soft and delicious corn tortillas, which REALLY complimented the fish. I was really sad that they ran out of the fig tart, but I tried the lemon brulee tart and that blew my mind too. I wish I had more time in CDMX to go back. Highly recommend.
A CDMX must!
Excelente comida. Un gran ambiente y buen servicio.
Love super love
Unfortunately I think this is one of the places where the hype is better than the experience. While an incredibly lively and fun environment, we thought the food was just okay, particularly for the pricing. The tuna tostada was excellent, but wasn't totally impressed by the pastas or shrimp soup that we had. I think perhaps if we had gone for a more seafood-based dish (i.e. whole fish) we might have been more wowed, but overall was more meh.
Amazing food. Staff pressure to eat and leave quickly combine with tight quarters and HIGH noise level reduce from 5 to 4 stars
The best overall dining experience in Mexico City so far. The staff is friendly, accommodating for those like myself with limited Spanish language. Every item we had was delicious. We immediately made another reservation after our first meal. It’s a very busy establishment. Reservations are highly recommended as the wait can be 3 or more hours. Despite how busy it always is, Contramar operates as a well oiled abs very efficient machine.
A lot of hype, so I had high expectations, but unfortunately not met. Tuna tostadas - good, fish ceviche special - passable, aguachile - bland (didn’t taste the seafood sweetness), whole grilled fish - executed well with flavourful sauces, fig tart - good, mezcal margarita - good. Our waiter was pretty transactional. Lots of staff running around made it a slightly stressful meal. Bill with a couple bottles of water came to $109 w/o tax or tip.
Loved our meal, dessert and wine. Cannot wait to go back.
Excelente! La comida lo mejor y el servicio siempre de 10
Great food and great service. I loved the desserts
I guess overrated is the best way to describe Contramar? We went at 6PM on a Tuesday, it wasn't busy. We tried a couple of sharing plates, the tuna tostadas that people rave about and some fish sopes. The tostadas were fine, nice fresh tuna with a little oil and parsley (if I remember right). Nothing mind blowing, very simple. The sopes were under seasoned, which for me is always a problem at normal run-of-the-mill restaurants with masa based dishes here in Mexico.
They rushed us through our meal, claiming the kitchen was closing at 7 (which it looked like it did). Our plan was to try the two plates and see if we were hungry and order more, but they were pushing us to order more before finishing the other plates, so we passed.
$62 for two small plates and two drinks. Definitely not worth it in experience or taste.
Everything about this place is great. Order the tostadas. Order the whole fish. Order the fig tart. Regret nothing!
Amazing. Top 5 meals in my travels, ever. Cocktails were not inspiring - go for the beer and wine.
We love this place for the food and vibe. Everyone eating and enjoying themselves
Great food and service. Jorge our waiter was the best!
The food and service live up to the hype! Bravo, what a fantastic experience 👌🏽
I am a huge fan of Contramar! It was my second visit in two weeks, and I could eat there every day! If you like fish, this is the spot in México City. It’s in the Roma neighborhood. The fish is super-fresh and delicious, and the service is first-rate. The whole fish served at the table is always delicious, and the Scallop Aguachile is amazing.
And save room for dessert, because you have to have some! It is a comfortable and welcome restaurant with the freshest fish in Mexico City!!
Muy buen ambiente
Perfect lunch! Food was amazing and service was fantastic!
We were really looking forward to our dinner at Contramar, but unfortunately, were very disappointed. While the food was tasty, we felt rushed by staff looking to turn over tables as quickly as possible. The noise level made it very difficult to have any conversation. Overall, far too expensive for the quality and atmosphere - you can get much better food at a lower price point at one of the other great restaurants in CDMX.
Mexico City is full of great restaurants, but Contramar is a stand-out! It’s tremendous! Everything was so fresh and delicious! It was hard to figure out what to order because we wanted to try everything!! With wonderful service. Loved loved LOVED it!!
