The Coastal Kitchen Monterey is an idyllic setting to enjoy inspirational fine dining. The culinary efforts are on display in the show kitchen and the service team is poised to offer impassioned explanations.

Chef Michael Rotondo’s multi-coursed tasting menu focuses on sustainability and celebrates the bounty of the Monterey Bay and Central Coast. A wine pairing of thoughtfully curated wines selected by the Sommelier team is available to complement each captivating course.

Additionally, we are also offering our Champagne Brunch on Sundays for 10am to 2pm.

Dinner Menus: Multiple Course Tasting Menu starts at $145 per person (Tuesday to Saturday Evenings)
3 Course Prix Fixe Menu $85 ( Tuesday to Thursday evenings)
Champagne Brunch Prix Fixe Menu: $75 per person (Sundays from 10am to 2pm)

Could only order a fixed 3 or 5 course dinner, and the only wines by the glass available were those being offered as part of the 5 course menu. We chose the 3 course meal. I had the sea bass, which was good, but not great, and my wife had the ribeye and braised short rib. The ribeye had significant silver skin veining, and was difficult to cut, let alone eat, and the braised short rib was extremely fatty. The service was excellent, and we felt bad for the server given the limited options that they could present. The restaurant was half empty at 8PM on a Saturday night…not a good sign. We will not be back.

Good food , great atmosphere /views, service was ok, price was a bit much more than it should be .... but you get what you pay for in life, so all in all , a pleasant experience

At our table by the windows, with binoculars provided, we were immediately entertained by the harbor seals at dusk, jumping out of the water and barking on their way back to the beach. We had decided ahead of time to order the 5 course tasting menu with wine pairings. Within moments of ordering, we were presented with our amuse bouche accompanied by a delicious sparkling wine from the Loire Valley. I won't go course by course, or sip by sip, but the real stand-outs were the sugar snap pea soup with treasures of crab and prawns and the red wine braised short ribs were decadent. Our dessert wine paired perfectly with a light cheese cake accented by a tart cherry sorbet and raspberry puree. The staff treated us with such kindness from the moment we arrived till we walked back out the door heading to our hotel room. And all we could say for the rest of the evening was, "What an amazing meal!"

I HATE writing negative reviews, but here we are. The location is outstanding. The food needs serious work. Good wine list and a very helpful sommelier. No creative cocktails, just the classics. For the price, there are much better food preparations, but you won't get that view. ✓ Basque Cheesecake — very good cheesecake with a lovely blackberry sorbet ▪ Pacific Gold Oyster with watermelon, shiso — oyster was good. Other flavors were missing ▪ Tempura squash blossom — fine ⁃ Purple Ninja tartlet with chèvre — uninteresting ⁃ Dungeness crab soup — cold soup a muddle of flavors with fishy crab ⁃ Wild King Salmon — was this sous vide cooked? Sure seemed it and was not a pleasant eat ⁃ Dry Aged Duck — sous vide cooked? Certainly not properly seared; the terrine was not at all good ⁃ Braised Short Rib — should have been much more melt-in-the-mouth. Sauce could be much beefier

Being able to experience an exceptional dining experience only steps away from our hotel room is a welcomed benefit to staying at the Plaza. My wife and I look forward to returning to the Coastal Kitchen during our next stay.

Coastal is an outstanding restaurant in all respects. The ambience, food and service are outstanding. Our last visit was during car week in the area and the crowd caused a bit of a rush for the kitchen. The normally 5 star food quality was slightly short as a result (still good but short of excellent). We have eaten at the restaurant enough times to know how unusual our experience on the most recent visit was. We will continue to enjoy the restaurant in the future.

For the second time in a week, we returned with good friends, and it was absolutely wonderful! Jesus (whose name I got wrong last week, sorry Jesus!) was as kind, professional, consistent and as accommodating as could be! The food and service all top notch once again! Can't wait to experience the dinner selections! 10 outta 10!! Highly recommend!
