It's been 8 months since our last visit due to lockdowns and as usual the food and service was fantastic. We are never disappointed and will be back soon.
Can’t fault anything tried new dishes and they were brilliant would recommend to anyone wanting an authentic Indian meal Ali and the team are great
Service brilliant as usual and food absolutely delicious and packed with flavour
Charcoals offers a wide range of delicious food at very competitive prices which is served by courteous, professional staff. We will be back. Highly recommend.
Charcoals is a consistent favourite of ours however our food wasn’t the best on Xmas eve. Chips were inedible, really bad, had to send them back. Curries were fantastic as always, service great. Table at the door was freezing, we sat with our coats on. Due to sanitising etc we didn’t want to move from table to table but experience on a whole was not as good as usual. When bill arrived, we asked if we could put tip on, guy actually put an amount in, ie without asking. As it was what I was going to pay anyway I never said anything, didn’t want to be unduly picky (we also found it quite funny) but it was a bit presumptuous. Charcoals is still our favourite place in town and there have been a lot of challenges lately.
Great food, service and adherence to coronavirus rules, highly recommend this place. Shame it was quiet when we went in (Monday lunchtime) as it deserves better - I've been in for work lunches before and it's been mobbed!
Fantastic food amazing staff we will be back as soon as all the Covid let’s us
We have been going into Charcoals on and off for a number of years, by no means a regular as we don't live in Glasgow, unfortunately standards seem to have dropped dramatically in terms of cleanliness within the restaurant and especially on the stairs leading to the toilets and the actual toilets themselves. Had I visited the toilets before eating my meal we would probably have left there and then as those first impressions would have put me off. Whilst they had screens up between the tables but the tables themselves were sticky to touch and didn't feel particularly clean..
The food was fine, I had the Chicken Madras whilst my wife had the Chicken Tikka Chasni and both meals were very good.
In summary the food was good but the restaurant, stairs and toilets are sadly in need of a makeover, whilst a deep clean in all areas would undoubtedly help.
Unfortunately we wont return until the toilets have been upgraded which is dissapointing.
Excellent place highly recommended come here from edinburgh we stay overnight in glasgow and visit here food and staff amazing
Food excellent. Realised when got there the standard lunch menu not available in December. Would def go back.
Why are you sending for a review when the booking could not take place due to a pandemic called Covid 19
Food in general was as usual very good, however, I ordered a “special chapatti” and it was the worst I’ve ever had, anywhere. It was very akin to a piece of cardboard dipped in fat, absolutely inedible. I did not complain as I did not want to upset the ambience of an otherwise enjoyable night out with friends.
Great meal really enjoyed
Excellent food and staff great. Always a great time.
Haven't been there in years as I don't live in Glasgow, but it was just as good this time as during my previous visits.
Good quality of food
10% service charge added to the bill, not so good.
Food was beautifully cooked and the staff were lovely! Came over with a free side of chicken wings for the two of us and we really appreciated that!
Really good food, freshly cooked. Couldn't fault it if a tried.
Best place in Glasgow for a curry. If you’ve not been there before, you don’t know what you’re missing
Great food and fantastic service.
Plastic plates and cutlery a bit annoying but I guess due to the current situation. Will however definitely be back.
It was great value for money, will be visiting again.
Prawn cocktail- hardly any prawns
Fried rice - tasteless
Nan bread - cold and no taste of garlic which we paid extra for
Main dishes - nice and tasty
All served on paper plates and plastic cutlery - horrendous
WE WILL NOT RETURN
Food as always tasted superb. However because of the Covid 19 situation, the restaurant is using paper plates both to serve and to eat from, with (good quality) plastic knives, forks and spoons, which unfortunately spoiled our experience. Reading previous reviews we knew about this, but decided to go anyway. I always feel presentation is as much importance as the food itself, so that's my reason for low review. Once the restaurant is back to normal, I will return and I'm sure giving a 5* review.
No lunch menu - had to order off the a la Carte menu
Excellent lunch at Charcoals, chicken pakora is delicious as was my Butter Chicken main. Highly recommended.
You always get good service and the food is always delicious
First time there and food was delicious , service was great and value for money will definitely be back
Can’t fault the service . Very disappointed food served in plastic plates ! Felt like I was at a child’s party. Also with curry being served in small plastic bowls was not full portion size .
Great service as always, had a fantastic meal
Absolutely delicious food, just overlook the paper plates and plastic cutlery. Tarka daal wonderfully garlicky, paneer makhni sweet and spicy, peshwari naan deep filled and moist. Husband loved the south Indian garlic chilli chicken and mushroom rice.
First time here and food was amazing kids loved it too.
Will defo be back. Thank you.
All paper plates plastic cups and cutlery changed times but a glass would’ve been nice
Lovely food again at charcoals , could not fault at all with food or service 👍
Food and service were top class will be back soon
Fantastic. Cant complain. Great food great service..Fadt service. Attentive staff. Best food ive tasted in a long time.
My favourite restaurant anyway. Was great to be back again. As always, great service and wonderful food. Will be back again soon.
We were a little disappointed with this visit as the restaurant served our food on plastic plates and our wine in plastic cups. We have been out a few times since lockdown was eased and this is the first time I have had this. To be honest having Indian food served in paper plates is real disappointment. We were sad that this happened as we have enjoyed our previous visits to the restaurant but we won’t be back again until this has changed.
