From the moment you walk in, to the last few steps out, you are taken care of. The food was delicious, including an amazing Vietnamese inspired section of the menu (get the pork chop), and our drinks were delightful. Boulud continues to do it, and do it exceptionally. Can't wait to come back!
The food and service were both first rate. Our drinks arrived promptly and exactly the way we ordered them. Overall, it was an excellent way to spend two hours.
Lovely spot. Food and service were excellent!
This place is unreal
This is our favorite restaurant in New York-- our other favorite is Marius et Jeanette in Paris..
there is really no comparison... we do miss some previous headwaiters when they are not there, but we live on 75th Street and it is just superb to stroll up the street and find such excellence. Actually, 18 years ago, we gave the first dinner party at Café Boulud just after 9/11, when the city was heart broken and stalled....
Always a Wonderfull spot for lunch on the UES
A very welcome reception and good service
Superb! It is always a pleasure to dine at Cafe Boulud, no exceptions.
Food and wine list incredible! The service is impeccable. All good! I’ll be back every time I visit New York. A special mention of Michael Brown. He was on top of everything.
Warm and welcoming reception, and the team immediate came with an alternative table as we were a bit close to the the front door initially.
Excellent recommendations on the menu and accompanying wine suggestions.
Food was served smoothly yet without any rush and the atmosphere was relaxed and warm overall. Very positive ambiance.
Will definitely recommend the restaurant and come back at a possible next occasion.
Love sitting outside. Wonderful service
Fabulous!! Always consistently delicious! I love this restaurant so much!
Table not ready in spite of reservation and in the back
The food and service were wonderful. The tables are a bit cramped, and the wait staff may have a few too many tables each. Our wine glasses and champagne glasses were empty on a few occasions when our next course arrived.
The pasta dishes were
When you have a reservation and you arrive on time to an almost empty restaurant and the try to take you to the worst table in a corner of the place, as if you needed to hide out!
Look forward to my next visit
Which I’m sure will be sooner than later
Delicious food, super staff, beautiful atmosphere and a perfect brunch.
I was underwhelmed to say the least. The amuse buche was flavorless , the calamari had sand in it, the bread was cold and the butter was hard, the broccoli rabe was cold and inedible due to he excessive crushed red pepper, the eggplant side dish was flat and flavorless, thank god the clams and pasta were delicious. The side dishes did not come with plates so I had to eat them off my bread plate as well.My company asked me to dine out to get inspiration and new ideas , so on the reputation of Daniel Boloud ,I felt the prefixed menu would be a great way to experience his food. We took the trip from Pa. to NYC and were disappointed.
Tables a bit too close to each other.
We regularly dine here. This time, the food was particularly exceptional, especially the seasonal dishes. As always, the service was impeccable. If you are looking for a refined, high-end dining experience and are prepared to bear the steep price charged for it, this is a great choice.
Beautiful room. Lighting and acoustics make it very comfortable for an intimate dinner. Service and food excellent. Menu varied. Price reasonable for upper east side.
The food and service were exceptional. Our server inquired of dietary restrictions and the Chef did an excellent job accommodating those restrictions. I will definitely be returning to Cafe Boulud the next time I’m in NYC.
We loved everything about this restaurant, the food was amazing as was the staff! I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant.
It was our anniversary. Dinner was very special. We got a surprise free dessert for our anniversary. Very elegant ambiance and service. Amazing food.
The food and wine are always flawless. But the front of the house is not what it once was. Little coordination amongst the many servers. E.g., one should never have to await a $35 glass of wine because the wine steward is MIA. And the complimentary dessert basket arrived before my real dessert. Clearly these are first-world problems. But at these prices, everything should be flawless. IMHO
Traveling from out of town and enjoyed a nice brunch before a stroll in the park. Had a delicious meal and went at a slow time so service was great.
Flawless service, par excellence attention to detail, proud to maintain a standard of classiness
From the moment we walked in the staff were very hospitable, anticipating everything we might desire for a great meal.
Shaved truffle on pasta was delicious, duck was cooked perfectly and Kimberley, the sommelier, was on point.
A great evening all around!
Lovely specially in the summer to eat outside. The food was really delicious, more than other times.....however always a pleasure to dine at Cafe Boulud.
Quiet with good service.
The food was fantastic! I ordered Ala Carte and the two others I was with ordered the Chefs menu. Everything was extremely flavorful and fresh tasting. My only complaint is the staff was so focused on chatting it up with their ,I’m assuming “regulars” they fell short on providing us newcomers a great service experience. After a few courses we sat and sat and sat waiting for someone to come clear our plates ,refill our water or just check on us, We had to summons them over almost each time we needed anything. Great food, marginal service.
We enjoyed the special Positano menu with wine suggested by our server.
It wasn’t a Michelin star grade service. I’ve dined here a few times before and I knew they serve good, reliable food. I went for
Fabulous! Great staff and deelish!
I feel I should make it clear to any reader that my preference is always to enthuse, celebrate and share enjoyable experiences. Ordinarily, rightly or wrongly, I will not write overly critical reviews.
Every now and then, however, I feel compelled to communicate an outrage.
I have eaten at Cafe Boulud and various Boulud restaurants (including Danielle) over the last 15 years or more. So much so that at one stage I would have told you that he was one of my preferred chefs. Of course the world has moved on. Cafe Boulud was at first a delight and then slipped into quiet arrogance for a few years. I stayed away for a while then started to visit Cafe Boulud at the Surrey Hotel. The food and service seemed to have been rejuvenated (possibly following Danielle’s loss of its 3rd Michelin star).
What I experienced this evening was really quite saddening. The food menu was ok but the wine list offered only mediocre quality across the board until reached the stratospheric level. Curating a wine list takes a lot of skill and business savvy. This list was just inflated and often mis-directed.
What really disappointed however was the quality of some of the food and the seeming inability of management to respond to the failings. The all too frequent response is to offer to take it off the bill rather to listen to the complaint. Poorly seasoned, floury/chalky sauces and ill-seasoned dishes were sadly not acknowledged other than the discount on the bill.
Finally the inattentiveness of the more senior front of house staff towards the end of the evening was unforgivable. Besides having to wait to get their attention while they chatted to each other they didn’t seem concerned that other diners were snogging away in full view. I hate to sound like the old prude that I probably am but some level of decorum at this level of restaurant should be maintained.
So there you have it - a sad tale of a once proud restaurant. My tip- don’t waste your money.
Mixed. Positive: chef’s gift, gazpacho, chocolate dessert. Negative: refusal to seat until all were present, cold rolls, no madeleines.
Everything was perfect
I missed the madeleines at the end of the meal...
Loved it. One of my favorite restaurants once again showed me why. A wonderful restaurant week lunch. Went with 5 friends who are now talking about when we should return.
a restaurant where it’s not noisy and tables not too close together is so rare these days.
Breakfast originale , très belle formule et c'était un plaisir
