Consistently one of LA's best restaurants--chef Ray Garcia executes an imaginative cuisine without pretense.

The food was great, but our waiter was not. The waiter spent most of his time flirting with the girls at the table next to ours. We waited 20 minutes just to get drinks.

Disappointed in our visit to this restaurant. We were in a back room with two servers. Our server was not very helpful and did not seem to want to be there. She offered us the drink special (a guava margarita) which we both ordered and they came basically half full- for 13 dollars each. Where as, the other server in the room was extremely energetic- asked all his tables if it was their first time and gave a whole spiel about the menu. This server actually had to take our check because our server has disappeared. Overall over priced food for the portions you get and our particular server left much to be desired. Would not come back to this place especially with El Cholo right across the street.

Broken Spanish is helmed by one of America's top chefs. The snapper is the amazing. The drinks are unique and one of a kind. This is a gem in a global city. Do not miss Tres Leches Cake and or Queso Fundido.

We went to Broken Spanish before an LA Kings game and were a bit early for our reservations. The staff were attentive and made good recommendations for us in terms of portion sizes and timed everything well. The ablondigas (rabbit meatballs) were delicious, if anything, perhaps a little too concentrated in flavour and could have benefited from a plain starch (small plain tamale or bread) to help the saltiness. Our favourite was the quesadilla which was crunchy, cheesy, with the right amount of oxtail. Great cocktails and nice wines. The menu isn't huge which can be a good thing to help decision making or a bad thing if you are a picky eater. The salad was huge and would be better to share among 3-4 people as opposed to 2, we couldn't finish it all. We would go back as it was all fresh and nicely executed.

Excellent Mexican-inspired cuisine, fantastic taste. We weren't sure what to expect, but found the dishes to be really good. The tortillas/lentil beans were terrific, as were the oysters, chicken, and red snapper. Despite being an upscale, hip restaurant, this place retains the flavors of traditional Mexican cooking. Highly recommended.

This could have been amazing...but to start, there was gum under my friend's seat. Our server didn't know the menu and seemed annoyed to be at work. The carne Asada platter was far too underdone, the potatoes were burnt and the tortillas were not warm. The bar ambiance was the best environment but overall the entire restaurant lacked ambience. Overall, the experience was no where near the money.

We received 3 dishes that should have been hot, but were cold. We had to send 2 dishes back so they could be reheated: the steak and the duck. The restaurant wasn’t even fully packed and the pans out dishes were served in were COLD. Definitely not worth the money we paid.

Service was good however, but who the hell is parsing out the food to the tables? Their timing was so off; I think we would have enjoyed our food had it been brought out fresh and not left under heating lamps only to be cold in reality. Who serves a cold steak??

So not worth the hype, I wish I could get my money back.

Wanted to like Broken Spanish. It's location is great, near Staples. Must give props to the staff... very courteous and attentive and food did come out in a timely way. Cocktails are weak and uncreative. We ordered a variety of small plates. All SPICY beyond belief (when questioning why our mouths are on fire, our waiter told us we ordered the spiciest things on the menu but failed to tell us up front), SALTY beyond belief, or just generally drenched in goopy sauce. The refried lentils and tortillas are delicious. Only winner out of 5 plates. Even dessert was mediocre and the coffee was like tinted water. Hopefully it was an "off" night but I wont return.

Terrific service and inventive cuisine. Anyone who describes this as merely "Mexican food" is severely underestimating the inventiveness of these dishes. I had three plates and a dessert and each one was absolutely unique in terms of flavors and preparation. If you're going to be in the neighborhood of the Staples Center and want a memorable meal, this is a splendid option.

What happened to this place?! We were here about 7 months ago and everything was delicious!! But this time around, every dish was just drowned in spicy sauces which took away all of the flavors. This is disappointing because this used to be a hitter. Not coming back!

I had an amazing oxtail quesadilla! Unfortunately, it was supposedly an entree but appeared more like an appetizer for one with no sides and extremely small quantity. I tried to take my time and savor the dish but it was just not possible! I finished it in 6 mins. The spicy cocktail (margarita) was very good. 30 plus dollars later I was still hungry. I had to walk to another place for more food and a drink. :(

Nicely made drinks, but 1 small tamale for $16? Portion sizes are ridiculous especially if they intend you to share, which the waiter told us we were. Pushed to order more food and then they forgot to bring one of the dishes out (thankfully we were't charged). Overall the food is extremely mediocre, especially for the price and the plethora of inexpensive and tasty Mexican spots all over LA. What is the point of this place? $29 for carnitas?

Unbelievable experience with regard to food and service. Jeff was our waiter and he couldn't have been nicer and more knowledgeable about the menu. His recommendation of the blue corn tortillas with whipped carnitas fat prompted us to order the lamb carnitas which was outstanding in flavor. The goat cheese tamale was moist and flavorful and the Cafe de la olla dessert with homemade cinnamon ice cream was out of this world. This is definitely a place for foodies. Quite a culinary adventure and experience. Only negative.... too small a table for the tapas like presentation; chairs not all that comfortable, and very noisy. It's a special place for that one-of-a-kind experience but very difficult to carry on a conversation with those we share the evening with.
