I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant.
The food was very good. The lamb was excellent and perfectly cooked.
The service was also excellent and very personable. The athmosphere is cosy and relaxed.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant and I will return.
Great find - warm and intimate little place with a really friendly welcome from the owners. Best lamb I've had in London this year and excellent wine list full of hidden gems. Highly recommended.
Another fantastic visit here, great food & service as always can’t recommend enough.
This was our first visit to Bowling Bird. It proved to be an excellent choice for a quiet lunch with a couple of friends: reasonably priced and a good standard of food. The service was friendly and non-intrusive.
What a wonderful evening - absolutely delicious food, wine, great service and a lovely atmosphere. Really recommend.
It was the worst meal we’ve had in a long time.
The calamari was bland and flavourless.
And even worse was the lamb. It was not seasoned and was cooked very poorly.
Our server did comp the wine and mojito.
Best lamb I’ve had in ages.
Great unpretentious food in one of my favourite neighbourhoods in London. The cote de boeuf was excellent !
I ate here today with my family and it was a really special evening. We were recommended a great Italian white wine, the food we ate was delicious, in particular the amazing crab claws and fabulous steak. The atmosphere of the restaurant is really friendly, warm and relaxed, helping us all have a great evening.
Lovely littl place. Warm welcome and solicitous ongoing service. Short menu but everything we had was impeccably prepared and served. Nice little wine list also. Really enjoyed the entire experience and will certainly be back.
We had a fantastic meal here, great food in a lovely setting on a beautiful street.Food was so fresh and tasty. We had Rack of lamb and a Beef fillet for mains both perfectly cooked.Staff very friendly and attentive.Highly recommend
Very tasty food, friendly service. The scallops with pancetta are highly recommended as well as Tuscan sausage!!
Great food served with a twist. Good attentive service. My sea bream was yummy. Too many potatoes as extra. Nice choice of affordable wines.
Excellent . Again. In fact the only major change was trying a different bottle of wine, which was also great.
Had a fabulous evening at the Bowling Bird. Great food, great drinks and great service from our friendly host John.
Great food. Very professional yet friendly service. The tagliatelle was great, as were all the sides. Really good bread and butter, too. Nice place!
Had a business lunch here with a Client, service was spot on, lovely cosy feel to restaurant.Cote de Beouf was a proper piece of meat and perfectly cooked , all food fresh and full of flavour. Will return and highly recommend. Thanks Bowling Bird
Delicious food and great gentle service. It’s a small menu which tends to mean they do it well. Our experience lived up to that as we had the Cote de Boeuf to share, which was cooked to perfection! Great sides and a lovely creme brûlée to finish. Good wines by the glass, but they had an extensive wine list. Found it because it was rated highly on here and it didn’t disappoint- a great find!
A quiet spot on a Wednesday evening, with excellent but unintrusive service. Presentation was impressive and the veal steaks were perfect. We skipped dessert as a half hearted attempt at keeping the calories down.
Faultless service and food. A really enjoyable evening. The Bowling Bird is definitely on the list of places to go back. Already recommended to 'foodie' friends,
Great place. Seems tucked away but really only a few yards from Smithfield market. Seems a small menu but we all chose something different and everything we had was excellent. Great service too. Will certainly head back.
We love this place. Everything is always excellent. Will be back.
Our first time dining at Bowling Bird. Very good food and wine and excellent and friendly service. Would definitely recommend and go there again. A lovely experience. 2 courses and 2 mains plus a bottle of white and a glass of red including service was £100.
From service to food..everything was amazing!
The location is delightful, you could be in a village opposite a church with a delightful churchyard. I liked that there was not an extensive menu, it tells me this restaurant knows what it is about. The food was simple, well-seasoned and beautifully cooked. This place is charming and the service outstanding. I would have liked to see something in between a small glass of wine (125ml) and a bottle. However the host did treat us to a glass of rather fine prosecco to celebrate my daughter's birthday.
I thoroughly recommend.
I booked Bowling Bird because I was looking for something different. Something more personal than the large corporates that dominate the market today. I was not disappointed.
John cheerfully greeted us as soon as we walked through the door and we proceeded to have a really excellent evening. No table turning here, four hours later full of the most amazing food and wine we left very happy.
Great food, great service, great wine. Do not miss this place.
I’ve been to the restaurant a few times and it’s always been excellent.
Superb service and food by John and team
Superb food, drink and service as always. John is a wonderful host. Highly recommended.
Consensus in my business party that this relative newcomer is first rate in every respect - food, wine, service and a casual ambience. Good value too.
Food was wonderful and great atmosphere. They get the mix between formal dining and relaxed ambiance just right. Chef came out to check the meat was all exactly how we wanted it and nothing was too much trouble. John looked after us perfectly and could not recommend it enough. A pint afterwards at the Hand & Shears a great pub 100 yards away.
A lovely little restaurant in a quiet out of the way location, but well worth finding it. Food was great and service was excellent.
We must have walked past Bowling Bird a hundred times since we have been living in the Barbican, and have intended to try it ever since we read the excellent reviews. The reviews are so good that I even wondered if they were a put up job. Not a bit of it! The food is excellent and the owner and his staff are charming. There are plenty of good restaurants in the area - but I think Bowling Bird is on the way to becoming our favourite 'local'!
We arrived at 9pm to be greeted by the owner. We enjoyed convivial conversation with him as he explained the wonderful menu and exceptional wine list. The restaurant is in a lovely setting and very private considering it's location in the heart of London. Our food arrived and it was very good. The steak is probably one of the best I've had. The wine was also very good and perfectly balanced NB with our food. We would definitely go back and recommend The Bowling Bird.
Had a business lunch. Excellent steaks! And good value as well. Would happily bring customer here again.
A comfortably and pleasantly furnished restaurant serving first-class food from a short menu. Excellent and non-intrusive service; easy to talk to the chef who will adjust the menu to suit when he can. Always ask if he can offer something not on the menu; you might be in for a very pleasant surprise.
Fantastic new-ish spot - John and team do a wonderful job !!
We loved the food and was very enjoyable casual dining. Highly recommend a visit.
Great experience, delicious food and amazing service, will definitely return!
Excellent service, great food. Gay friendly. Overall I would recommend to anyone.
