San Diego's new top tier steak restaurant with great cocktails to boot. Decor is beautiful, roof top bar is beautiful and service was outstanding. BAR did an amazing job making us feel safe and well cared for during the COVID pandemic.
We went after the opened back up from COVID. It was just a little more crowded than I would have liked. Also, it was SUPER cold in the dining area. I would have liked for them to keep the booths open the way they were, but just only put one couple per booth. Instead they divided them with a pretty wooden glass divider, but I still would have rather had the space than the divider.
If you like art deco, the best steaks of your life, knowledgeable and friendly service, and an excellent spirits selection, look no further. We look forward to our next visit.
Simply put one of the best meals/steaks I've ever had. The atmosphere/decor with rooftop seating and city view is awesome. The service is about as good as it gets and the waiter was very helpful explaining the menu and making excellent recommendations.
Born and Raised pivoted well with their reopening. Still just as amazing as before , no table side service for food naturally though. Service is still impeccable and the setting is comfortable with plenty of space between tables , unlike many restaurants in little Italy.
The establishment is not respecting the state and county laws regarding COVID-19. We had a dinner reservation for two people, two weeks in advance. Halfway through the dinner, they are allowed a group of six people not wearing mask to accumulate at the bar literally standing shoulder to shoulder and above our table. I found this incredibly outrageous and astonishing to recklessly disregard the well-being of their patrons. I was completely shocked. As it used to be my favorite restaurant in San Diego. I highly recommend that all parties reject this establishment.
do the sampler. WORTH IT.
The dining upstairs on the patio is very nice especially under the current COVID 19 conditions. The service was outstanding and the food was very good. Recommend the snails as an appetizer. In my humble opinion dining in at this restaurant is safer then going into any grocery store...
One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in years!
Such a lovely experience for our anniversary date night. The service was impeccable with complimentary champagne and an after dessert treat. The steaks were some of the best we’ve ever had!
This place is beautiful and perfectly set up. Especially in this Covid environment. The service was phenomenal and the ambiance was great. The downside was that the good was average. Particularly the steaks. They were undercooked, which isn’t the worst thing for a steak as you could always send it back to be cooked a bit more but the flavor was lacking. Also, the knives need to be sharpened as it was a struggle to cut the meat. I hate writing this last part about the food because everything else was perfect. The staff was friendly and super attentive. I would give it another shot when visiting San Diego it’s a great spot.
The ambiance here is everything. Not just the view itself, but from the moment you are greeted at the door by the hostesses, to the smartly dressed waitstaff, the beautifully appointed dining room, and all the small details that make this place special. I came here for a first date, and knew bringing my date here would impress her. We dined upstairs on the rooftop under the orange and pink sunset and well into the starlight. The cocktails are sophisticated, simple, and delicious. I felt adventurous and tried quite a few menu items that I haven't before like the steak carpaccio and the dirty hashbrowns with creme fraiche and trout roe. The flavors and textures were a perfect marriage. I couldn't be more thrilled with my dining experience, and highly recommend this place to anyone looking to have a romantic date!
It was truly amazing.
My pork was a little on the Luke warm side.
The food was excellent every dish was extremely tasty! The waiter was knowledgeable and very friendly! Where the issue started is when the host refused to sit us at another table, the sun was beating directly down on us which was bright and uncomfortable especially trying to look and talk to one another. There were several tables open upstairs and down to include the one I asked for but was told it was reserved for another guest. It was a table for four as was ours and then she sat a party of only two 30 min later. No reason we couldn’t have sat there. Then after spending over $500 we were given not so subtle hints that we need to leave the table. So we go to the bar to continue conversing and drinking only to be told the bar stools are reserved too. Someone really needs to fix those issues especially at the cost people are spending!!
Slight hiccups with service. But it’s a whole new dining world so it’s going to happen. Overall, it was fantastic.
As good as it gets. Great food and drinks, though someone was toying with the music
Outstanding service and food. It was good to see everyone again and we were truly satisfied with the amazing dry aged steak and Japanese Wagyu. In addition the whole lobster was a nice addition to the menu.
The steak is tasty but it would be better if the plates are hotter.
Very disappointed in our experience. Had high expectations. My $70 "dry aged" ribeye was tough and not very hot. Wife's filet was overcooked and underwhelming. The bread was the highlight of the meal. We made a reservation and the table we were seated at was near the side entrance and was not shaded, allowing sun to be in your eyes. People who walked in without reservations had better tables. Service was good. Would have preferred to sit upstairs outside, but weren't aware or given the option when we arrived. Side dishes were small but good. Overall a terrible value for $100 per person. I can grill a better steak at home. Sorry.
The 1920s/1930s concept was refreshing. Restaurants aura and ambience, amazing. Meal was delightful. Nothing bad to say about this restaurant. Highly suggest.
Excellent as always. We travel to San Diego from Houston to visit our son and his family, and this has been a regular stop on our agenda. We are hopeful the current crisis passes quickly so this fine establishment can resume business as usual.
Great decor , great ambiance. A little expensive but worth it for a special occasion. Suggest you sit on the upper deck
Every single thing was DELICIOUS - drinks, apps, steaks, sides...everything! Amazing service & gorgeous setting!
Month of March is the perfect month to dine at the BAR for a double birthday celebration for my husband and I.
As soon as we entered the restaurant we were welcomed by the hostesses and brought to our table in less than five minutes. Not sure if this was the norm on a Friday but we’re not complaining! Our server, Bogdan greeted us right away and was professional and helpful with our order and very friendly. Gave us free champagne and even cider for our 10 yo child. Food was delicious and drinks were good, had the Japanese wagyu (very tasty wished we ordered more) dry aged t-bone, cauliflower, mushroom fricassee, potato purée and bread w/ butter. For drinks, pisco punch, mamie taylor and a mocktail.
Super satisfied with no room for dessert and still gave us a bag in it was two macaroons.
Oh also, one of the hostess took our curious daughter for a glimpse of the kitchen. She was amazed.
We had a wonderful experience and happy tummies!!
Fabulous service and venue. The tableside Steak Diane was magically delicious.
My 3rd time there, always fantastic. Celebrated a birthday this time and they added several touches to make the evening celebration extra special.
Took my boyfriend for his birthday. Had the rib eye, Mac n’ cheese, dirty hash browns and a couple cocktails which were all phenomenal. Great ambiance, staff, food and beverages! Would return for another special occasion.
Phenomenal all around
Everything always great!
This restaurant lives up to the hype of its name completely. I would recommend anyone planning a more expensive dinner option to go to Born and Raised.
This was a great restaurant from beginning to end. Roberto was our waiter who did an outstanding job!! We started off ordering the bread, delicious! Then I enjoyed the potato leek soup with lobster, mussels and scallops as my appetizer, delicious! Next I had the filet mignon cooked to precision and a side of squash, beets and arugula. Our other side was an incredible mac and cheese with Panko bread crumbs, cheesy and to die for!! Our party consisted of 3 other people who ordered entrees of steak Oscar, filet mignon, and a dry aged bone in New York strip. The gentleman who had the NY strip said it was "the best steak he ever had". For dessert we had one order of the NY cheesecake which was incredibly tasty and unexpectedly light. We also ordered the homemade ice cream made with nitro, what a show stopper!!! This was very creamy and a brilliant and memorable production! Having spent many years in the restaurant and hotel industry and working at some of the finest restaurants in the United States, head waiter Ritz Carlton Hotel for 13 years, Wally's Desert Turtle, Mamma Gina's, Ruth Chris and LG's Prime Steakhouse, I would have to rank this restaurant in my top 3 so far. If you come to San Diego and want to check out Little Italy, this dining establishment is a must do!!! Outstanding job Born & Raised, I'll be back, THANK YOU
It felt like I was in the Great Gatsby. We sat near the chefs and butcher and loved every experience of it.
The food is pricey, but worth it. I love the ambiance of the restaurant and the service is always excellent. This place is great for both romantic dinners and night's out with girlfriends. They're also super accommodating to any dietary restrictions that you might have. Thank you, Danielle for such a great experience!
The tomahawk and bone in ribeye were amazingly delicious! I recommend the dirty hash browns, mashed potatoes and mushrooms as a side. For dessert, the cheesecake was my favorite. Roberto, our server, was great! Make reservations at least a month ahead to get a good time slot.
Always a fabulous experience. The food & service are always outstanding. Ambience is very high energy. Super fun evening.
Just fantastic service, incredible food and a terrific vibe. Expensive, but so, so worth it.
Born&Raised always has exceptional service and offers the finest quality dining experience. My most recent time there was especially outstanding. Amy was the most fantastic server with great menu recommendations and even offered an extra sherry luge which was a fun new experience for my girlfriend and mine’s anniversary. We got there when they opened so it was nice and quiet but even by the time we left and it got busier, it wasn’t loud at all like some restaurants get. I can’t wait to come back again and try even more of their wonderful food and drink options.
I swear this isn’t a paid review, just a brutally honest review from a satisfied customer. (:
Excelent food and service.
The Rib eye was outstanding.
Uh-mazing! Great ambiance, top-drawer food and talent to go with!
