Barbecue
Just like the best American smokehouses, at Bluegrass BBQ you order your meal at the counters with your friendly server. Bluegrass only takes bookings Sun-Thu. All other times it's first come first served, so just head on down!

Situated on bustling Gun St in the centre of Reading. With a passion for Real American BBQ, it is our quest to bring the genuine flavours of the Southern States to the UK.

For lunch & dinner we serve our smoked meats, all cooked the true American way which means our BBQ pitmasters work around the clock to ensure the 'cue we serve when our doors open is the best you will find - it takes nearly 48 hours of loving care and attention to perfect each of our smoked meat cuts.

For breakfast, we serve up freshly made-to-order American pancakes with delicious toppings, as well as fully loaded smoked breakfast plates.

Nice atmosphere, almost authentic to a proper American bar/saloon. Really friendly service, our waitress was absolutely fantastic.

Beef brisket was really nice, however the chicken wings left us wanting more authentic experience. Wings are the real measure of Americano in a place like this and if you don’t serve the Buffalo style wings, don’t try to make it based on your own recipe. Just don’t do wings at all.

The ambience was very good, it was relatively quiet when we were in. Must be based on everyone still being at work, I had the full rack of ribs which is a Tuesday special with chips for £10! Can’t go wrong in my opinion. The ribs were delicious, easily falling off the bone, also had a sundae, now a smokehouse, like this one, you wouldn’t think has good desserts, but you’d be mistaken. The chocolate and banana sundae went down a treat after the meal, I was stuffed. They also have a great selection of American sodas which are always a reluctant but very good choice in terms of a good soft drink to go with your food or to tingle the taste buds in preparation for what’s to come.

Been there at least eight times since it opened. Portions have certainly got smaller since opening. Although the meats were very nice. Side of chicken was especially poor. Two strips of chicken for £4.50 was a rip off.

Booked a table via Opentable and although they found the booking they were alittle taken aback to actually find a spare table as they were busy.

After eventually getting a table sorted which was soaking wet as it had just been cleaned and not dried off the rest of the service was very good.

Coleslaw wasn’t as fresh as normal with a fair bit of browning cabbage in it and it didn’t smell the freshest.

Hopefully we just caught it on a bad evening but portions need to increase in size.

Had a really enjoyable evening meal for my sons birthday. We were 8 diners and we had our own secret room upstairs through a door that looked like a fridge on the other side. We were attended to promptly and the waiting staff were very friendly . The food came all about the same time and it was absolutely delicious. We all had different meals and were trying each other’s as well. We had some sides to share. Onion rings were gorgeous, as were the ‘ frickles ‘ . Never heard of them let alone tasted them - delicious; gherkin slices fried in batter . Probably not very dietous ! but we went to a southern American bbq restaurant so knew what to expect and it did not disappoint . Good range of choices both for the food and drink . I haven’t eaten that much in years and didn’t regret it at all . Brilliant evening and brilliant food !

The food was lovely, had a full rack of ribs which literally fell off the bone. The service was good too. Waiter came to tell us that a group of 20 would be ordering soon so we had a chance to get our order in before, to save us waiting half hour plus if the group had ordered first.

Been here a couple of times and it never disappoints. The food is amazing and so is the service. The 2 of us shared the pit boss platter and a couple of sides each, the hot link sausages were a great choice chosen by the girl on the till. The waiters on the floor were great aswell, always concerned about the customers. Will always be my favourite bbq place. Will always be a good place to recommend.

Unfortunately all of the party had cold food which was disappointing. Also the portion sizes varied considerably. The food was fine but nothing special.

Fantastic food! First time visit and we loved it. They have got loads of special offers depending on the day of the week . Range of American soda is humongous. Arizona iced tea is in massive can. Food amazing . Service nice but not intrusive. Katrina and team was really looking after us well Thanks !

Omg where do I start?! This place is amazing! Came here for the first time for me and my boyfriends date, always walked by and wanted to check it out but so glad I did! The staff are so friendly and attentive from the moment we walked in, they sat us on our table and explained to us how it works, and all of the specials they had on (Winging Wednesday was the special today). The menu was so diverse and full of interesting items which looked so yummy, the southern fried chicken and waffles took my liking, my partner was more drawn to the ribs (this being a smokehouse of course). Food arrived in great time and looked amazing and tasted even better😍 This one girl in particular with glasses was very attentive and helpful providing us suggestions of drinks which would go well with the meal (which was so interesting!) As well as making us laugh. The interior of the resturaunt is so cute!! Lots of detailing and neon signs, with country music creating a homely environment. There were some tasty looking deserts however me and my boyfriend were full from our meals, but we would defo come back to try them (the oreo pie looked so good 😍) Overall me and my boyfriend will defo be coming back again and again! Service and food was perfect, would recommend to anyone!

Begun as soon as we walked in. Asked to sit upstairs as it was loud and was sat by a constant opening door. Was told we weren't allowed to as they needed to fill up downstairs first. The service was awful!!! The waitress didn't even know what dishes she was bringing out and had to go back to the kitchen to verify what she's brought to our table. The lady servicing drinks and food at the bar needs to smile more! Having a grumpy person serving you is annoying and kills the atmosphere! I've come out to enjoy a meal, service with a smile would of been nice! Food is way too over priced for the quality and what you get. My burger was meant to be southern fried but was falling apart.
The bell for kitchen runs was not necessary at all, no need for it.
Would not recommend this place to anyone and wont be going back here anytime soon!!!

The staff at Bluegrass BBQ were welcoming and efficient. The menu was varied and there was something for everyone, children and adults alike. We went for a meal in the evening but the breakfast menu looks so good we want to go back on morning. The food was delicious and the portion sizes were very satisfying, i.e. large. We had the pulled pork and the chilli and both were scrumptious. There wasn't much room for desert so shared the chocolate Sundae, it was delicious. The selection of drinks was varied and interesting, it was hard to decide what to drink. I would certainly recommend this to my family and friends. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed. Definitely come here if you are hungry you certainly won't be when you leave.
