Blade 1936 is an upscale casual modern Italian restaurant which took over the historic Blade Tribune and News Building in Oceanside. Blade 1936 features authentic Italian cuisine and wood-fired pizza. Our menu features fresh pastas, local seafood, steaks and sinful desserts. We have Vegan and Gluten Free menus.

Featuring two private dining rooms, Blade 1936 is the perfect venue for your special occasions. Our private wine room seats up to 60 guests and the Chef table seats up to 10. Our outdoor patio is perfect for dining al fresco with your pet.

The pizza at Blade 1936 is AWESOME! The dough is tender and easy to chew. Full of flavor. The char is perfect. The best pizza outside of Napoli Italy for sure. 😋

We have watched this restaurant change through the years. From great to not so good to great again. So happy we came back & tried it again. It has been back in our regular rotation for quite some time. The Italian pastas are from Italy & delicious! The Linguine Alle Vongole is the best I’ve ever had & the the house made Parpadelle is excellent both ways on the menu but our favorite is to make sure it has there house made sausage on iit. It adds so much flavor to any dish! The restaurant itself is a little loud but you can always sit outside if you want less ambient noise. Servers are fine. Cost is affordable. Just go you’ll love it.

I hate to give three stars because the food here is really good! My daughter chooses Blade because their gluten free crust is the best around. But my salmon was served raw inside. I sent it back and it came back with a black hair on the plate. Our waitress couldn’t explain the specials, and didn’t clear plates (my pet peeve,if you expect a 20% tip.) Lastly, we sat in the back room and it was extremely loud. We will go back for sure, but we will sit outside to avoid the noise.

Introduced Blade to our friends last night and they were very impressed with the service and the food was exceptional. Highly recommend the beef tortellini.

It was a Wednesday night and quite busy. We were greeted welcomely by the hostess and seated, and then the server came quickly to introduce himself. the food was excellent; however, due to short staff, it took a while to get things. otherwise it was very good.

Food was very good. I ordered the creamy funghi pasta with homemade ribbon pasta and shrimp, my husband got the penne with pink meat sauce and friend got the pepperoni pizza, and calamari for an appetizer. The pasta's were amazing, the pizza was average, and the calamari was just ok. The ambience and service was a little disappointing. It was more of a family atmosphere vs a date night. The server seemed to have too many tables and wasn't able to spend much time with us.

The reservation we made seemed to take the hostess off guard. She asked if we could sit outside in these tents they have near a road. It's winter and cold out. I said no. She was not happy. She then found a table in the back room which seemed to me the children's room as this room was just off from the main room, and the room was filled with parents and their children. The main room seemed to be couples and no babies. There was absolutely no ambiance in the room we were sent to. The hostess gave me a little nasty troll glance as she left, so I felt this was punishment for my refusing to sit outside. Now, the waitress we had was fast efficient and friendly. The food was another story. Their salad was all arugula with a 4 slim slices of avocado and 4 small slices of hearts of palms... period. they had a healthy dusting of almonds on the arugula probably to keep you from noticing it was all arugula. The pizza was weirdly tasteless. It was a margherita pizza. It had about 4 small leaves of basil, so it only covered a quarter of the pizza. The sauce was bland. It's as if they worked for a commercial fast food pizza chain and just didn't care. We won't be returning.

We moved from RB to Oceanside in October 2024. So far we are loving it and the downtown scene. We discovered Blade 1936 and have been there twice. Both times the food was just great!...The whole staff are really super helpful and work as a team. The wine list is excellent as well. We will be regular customers. Its a real fun lively local spot...
