BLACKBARN Restaurant - NoMad
Very nice evening, food was excellent, the waiter was very good and loved the look of the place
All around winner! Delicious food, great service and perfect ambiance. We'll be back.
Amazing everything... food, atmosphere, service... needless to say, I can't wait to go back!
Very Poor service - waited really long for food (>45 min) and waiter wasn’t helpful nor understanding. He was a bit of a jerk about the entire situation and hard to find.
All seemed good but the server wasn’t the greatest.
I really did not appreciate him putting the check on the table when we didn’t even ask for it.
It was only about 9.30pm
Casual, comfortable setting, great food, underwhelming service for the price. Nice wine menu but pricey French red was served warm at room temp.
Was New Year’s Day and my friend’s birthday and couldn’t be better. The atmosphere is great. Although lots of kids, the restaurant is spread out so it’s easy to find a quieter table. The base and guitar playing was a wonderful holiday/brunch perk. A lot of energy but not noisy. The host found a quiet table as I requested the menu for brunch is diverse. I had a super omelette and my friend has an extraordinary burger. Our server, Esteban, made it an exceptionally pleasant celebration. I’ve been to Black Barn several times . It’s a great destination place if you are in the Madison park area but it is also a locals place. All good... great!
Everything was great with the exception it took about an hour 20 mins between our apps and entrees. Kitchen VERY slow but understood given the holiday, would still visit again.
The food was outstanding as was the service. The ambiance was very cool too. I will be back!
Made a last minute booking on a Sunday evening, which was perfect! Great food and service, and a relaxed place with nice atmosphere 👍 extra treat on Sundays (at the moment) with 50% on wine bottles. Good proportion of the food. Would definitely go back!
We made a reservation for two at 7.30 pm and when we arrived we were seated in the bar area that was almost empty and with not ambiance at all ...I told them I had a reservation and wanted to be seated inside the restaurant but was told that my reservation was made the same day and that they didnt have tables available inside. The food was good but I didn’t appreciate not being seated in the main restaurant...they should not accept reservations when their dining room is full
Always great drinks and great food. Nice venue and definitely different than many places in NYC. Worth going to!
All around great!
Food was great!
Shrimp and grits we're good, chicken and waffles were decent.
We were at the Blackbarn for brunch. Everything was pretty good from food to service. One thing to note is that there is definitely a break between brunch-dinner, so since our girls brunch got extended with some extra conversation, it got really quiet at some point...
Ok food, subpar experience. We were greeted by the gracious host and seated in the Tavern section for the evening with the option to order from either menu, which was convenient. While I will note that many of the dishes has nice ingredients, the configurations were off. The kale salad had entirely too much butternut squash and was overly sweet. If that aspect were omitted, the salad would have been impeccable. I also felt that the bone marrow had too many breadcrumbs (over 50%) which gave it a weird consistency. The sirloin steak was also tough, which should not have been the case with a supposed premium cut. While I understand it wasn't filet mignon, it was more "labor intensive" than it should have been. To top it off, the service was extremely lacking with empty glasses more than half of the time and having to flag the server down for most of our meal for basic things. I even had to grab the dessert menu from the host stand because he was nowhere to be found and we didn't have all night. All in all, the experience was borderline ok for what it was. However, with a premium price tag for an experience that missed the mark, it doesn't warrant a return. This was brought to management's attention and they regarded it as a mere difference of opinion rather than issues that should be addressed. With so many options, I wouldn't quite recommend. On to the next.....
Food was great. Service sucked. Music was too loud.
Fabulous food and service. Amazing evening.
This meal was an annual holiday brunch with grad school friends. We've been doing this for a long time, and this was one of the best experiences we've had. Great food choices, solicitous but not over-eager service, and a wonderful champagne brunch option. We were able to catch up, enjoy wonderful appetizers and unique main ciuurses. Everyone left happy and eager to come back for another meal.
BLACKBARN was an amazing find. The food was top notch and the atmosphere was beautiful. My mom and I shared the shrimp and grits and the apple cider donuts. Everything was cooked beautifully and tasted great. The service was slow but the atmosphere was great and made up for it.
We shared mussels as a starter and they were terrific. Our next courses, octopus and foie gras were only fair. Don’t order these!
The food was uncommonly good but very expensive. The wine list offered very very few reasonably priced options. Noise level was high so not a venue for anyone seeking a quiet night out.
Great atmosphere for a date. Also seemed like it would be great to go after work or in a group. Big area, very buzzy but not in an annoying nightlife way
Brunch drinks were excellent! Great value and very delicious. Food was unique and delicious.
The food was good but one minor issue 1. People who came in after myself and my guest were seated first. The food was good, the drinks were extremely well made and strong (including the bloody mary which isn't often the case at brunch) and the service was good. The volume of noise in the restaurant was way too loud for my friend and I. We were in the dining room (away from the band which was good but loud) and we still couldn't hear each other. I wouldn't go back in a hurry for that reason and I wouldn't recommend the restaurant to other Baby Boomers who would probably have the same issue with the volume.
Food was good. The service was way too slow. It took 40 minutes to have an assigned wait service came to take order. Disappointed in service.
We had pancakes with ricotta, to begin, and they were just as delicious as they sounded and looked. Drizzles of honey. Their suggested rose is lovely, dry and crisp. Outstanding food and fun ambience. Overall I would recommend Blackbarn for fun celebratory dinners or Sunday brunch. However, the service left something to be desired. Our waiter was short with us and walked away when we said we only knew what we wanted as an appetizer but were not ready with our main. I have been at several restaurants where you have to put in your whole order and there are other ways to deliver this message! I think service definitely took away from the experience!
Came for brunch with my niece and hd the best time ever!!!
The staff, the band the food- the best was to spend a Sunday afternoon!!!
Great vibe great food fun evening.
Warm and lively atmosphere. Ideal dinner spot for a winter night.
Loved the food and cocktails. Would definitely recommend.
Food was mediocre. Staff was over-tasked. Not worth the money.
Always delicious and Chef John is amazing. Such a thoughtful and talented chef. I always have a great time and highly recommend Blackbarn.
The wait times were long btwn getting seated, to receiving menus, waiting for the waitress to take our order, and between courses. The food was good but not great they all lacked the final touch. I had the burger which was fine but not the best burger I have hard. The ravioli was watery due to the vegetables which made the sauces consistency off and presentation a bit sloppy. The shrimp grits looked great and tasted fine but wasn’t anything spectacular either. We also had the pork belly appetizer which was completely over powered by the sauce and was just salty. The pork belly wasn’t crispy which is something you need to do with this type of meat or you end up eating pork fat with a mushy texture. peter Lugers and maiolino know how to cook pork belly. The restaurant was spacious and a great place to bring a large group and eat with kids. Downside is the tables were at an awkward height where you needed higher chairs but they were almost too high for the tables so you banged your knees against the tables and had to hunch over to eat. They also had couches with tables but you sink I to the couch while trying to eat and risk dropping food on your lap. I would say the seating situation isn’t comfortable. With so many great restaurants in NYC I wouldn’t recommend going back.
I booked this restaurant for my brother's 34th birthday. We had a group of 7 and our server Dimitri was amazing. He was attentive even with the large amount of tables he had and always checked in on us. We loved the menu and the drink choices for brunch at BLACKBARN. We got the chocolate babka coffee cake and it was fluffy and delicious. We also got the blue corn "johnny cakes" which I would 100% recommend and I don't love sweet foods, but this honey drenched "cake" was SO good. I got the wagyu steak sandwich as my main and it was incredible. I almost couldn't finish it all, but it was just too good not to. If you go for brunch definitely do the build your own bloody mary bar!!
Thank you for your kind words! I have passed this message on to him! P.S. I dream about that steak sandwich daily! Best, Mike
Very fresh and delicious food. The place is large but stills feels intimate. Really enjoyed the service as well.
Food was amazing but our waiter was VERY slow and forgetful. Didn’t bring us bread until we asked for it (after both our appetizers arrived and we realized we wouldn’t get any unless we asked). Also, he didn’t bring my boyfriend his beer until AFTER my boyfriend was done with his entree (my boyfriend had to ask another waiter about the missing beer). My boyfriend wanted to enjoy the beer WITH his dinner and had ordered prior to the appetizers arriving at our table. The waiter checked in on us only once (after our apps arrived) and then just disappeared the rest of our meal. I wanted to order another drink too but didn’t feel comfortable flagging down a random waiter so just ate the rest of my meal drink-less. Very unfortunate because we loved the food and would’ve definitely returned but the indifferent service left a sour taste and we will never come back here.
Ordered the breakfast sandwich and there cornflake crusted French toast. Food was delicious, service was excellent, vibe was very upbeat and trendy. The noise level was a bit loud and hard to hear but otherwise positive experience.
