Bastardo’s Trattoria is a rebellious little Italian rooted in Shipston-on-Stour. We’re open four evenings a week as a neighbourhood trattoria cooking British seasonal produce with Italian influence.

Bastardo's Trattoria was welcomed into the Michelin Guide just four months after opening, led by Head Chef John Broughton, who previously headed up the Michelin-starred kitchen at The Royal Oak, Whatcote.

Expect handmade pastas, thoughtful plates and a concise, characterful wine list. The atmosphere is informal but focused, and the welcome is always genuine.

We were recommended Bastardo by a local couple we met in a bar. We managed to book a table for the next evening. The restaurant is a coffee shop during the day and a 14 covers only restaurant in the evenings. We had put in our booking it was our anniversary and were delighted when as we sat down we were presented with an anniversary card signed by all of the staff. The atmosphere is upmarket but relaxed. The servers were attentive without being overbearing. But, the night belongs to the food. Two set menu options. One of which was vegetarian. There were extra options on starters and desserts. Each course was presented with elegance from a very knowledgeable server. The highlight for me was a perfectly cooked halibut. A limited but well thought out wine list complimented the dishes beautifully. Truly, a night to remember.

All round a very special experience. Excellent food , nice setting and brilliant service. Absolutely everything was outstanding. Highly recommend. a real treat.

This was our first visit for a family birthday and I'm sure it won't be our last. The quality of the food and flavours were exceptional and while it seems relatively expensive you could pay very similar money for a lot lower quality. The service was friendly and polite, attentive without being intrusive. We all enjoyed it very much and the birthday boy was very pleased with the treat

Excellent food prepared with great care and skill. Some tables a tad too close together I felt. Definitely a dining experience to treasure.

Delicious food and service I will certainly return. I hope it lasts longer than some of its predecessors. Although not cheap, the good things in life have to be paid for and it is certainly worth it for a periodic treat.
