Barking Mad Cafe
I am beginning to question the need to make reservations as the hostess does not ask if anyone has a reservation and people who do not are seated before me.
The food is absolutely wonderful, the biggest down fall to this restaurant is waiting to be seated. Empty tables requiring 30 minute turn overs. As people enter and see the tables empty growing impatient with the turn overs and leaving. I did not leave, but we waited 15 minutes for a vacated table to get turned over and prepped. Which is ridiculous!!! I could have wiped the table down myself, it was painful to watch, how slowly your bus boys/gals worked the room to clear the tables...
Horrible experience. Reserved table but hostess didn't have a clue! Food was too salty and served cold. We ended up paying $50 for b/f and didn't find this Cafe worth paying this amount.
Chef / Manager didn't have the courtesy to come & apologize for serving us a mediocre meal....
Awesome atmosphere, quality food and incredible service. See you soon!!!!
We've been coming here since they opened and much preferred the service and wait time when they were less crowded. It took 45 minutes after we ordered for any food to come out. They will need to figure out the kitchen staffing or will lose customers
Excellent food and great ambience. We have ordered fried chicken with jalapeño waffles and eggs, Everything was excellent.
A good brunch menu, but the food was medicre. The noise level was very disruptive. The staff was friendly and effective.
I love Barking Mad Cafe! The menu is reasonably priced and has a nice rotation of new items, different from what you’d expect from most restaurants in northern Montgomery county. The food is always fresh and well prepared. The service is always prompt and attentive.
Barking Mad Cafe serves amazing food with exceptional services consistently, outdoor seating area is enjoyable, sometimes you can catch live performance, we always have amazing dinning experience there.
This is my second time here and while the service was better than my initial experience, it still is not up to par. I can’t for the life of me figure out what the issue is because they are definitely not short staffed. Servers are running around everywhere in this restaurant... everywhere but to your table. I ordered steak and eggs and the steak was severely over cooked so I did not eat 98% of it. I would have requested a new one but in the amount of time it took for a server to return, I had given up. Great chai latte, great ambiance, the servers are friendly. But I don’t come to a restaurant to necessarily make friends and service is apart of the experience.
I went to the cafe with a couple co-workers for a working lunch and it was even better than anticipated. I had always thought this was a dog cafe due to the name but was pumped to find out it's a delicious bistro! The food was really delicious and the staff was friendly. The service was a little slow but nothing too bad. Overall I'm glad I found this gem and will definitely be back!
The service was very poor. We waited 30 minutes for someone to even come by and bring us water after we sat down. Yet they were very quick to bring us our check and hurry us out when we were not done eating yet. Food was good but not worth the bad service. Just go to first watch instead.
Normally I'm a big fan of Barking Mad, but Saturday evening was an exception. The waiter had to have forgotten to place our order as we sat un-served for an hour. When I finally asked what the deal was, he looked confused and offered a hesitant apology. When we finally received our food, he got my wife's order wrong. Twice. We finally just kept it as she just wanted to eat something. He also forgot my daughter's kids meal. Butter noodles. Yep. That eventually came 10 minutes after ours. All in all, the quality of the food was good, but the service was terrible this past weekend. Hopefully it's an anomaly.
Great place for brunch - Food was amazing ! Staff is always so friendly and accommodating !
Our server was wonderful and we had the dining room pretty much to ourselves. My son and I felt a little bad about that, but the waitress said she thought it was because the school year had started and people were not eating out as much.
Food was very good, as always.
Only upon arriving for my reservation, we were informed that no lunches were being served and only drinks and pastries were available. Sure would have been nice to know beforehand! On top of all that, the employee who informed us was clearly u apologetic about the whole ordeal and was impatient about our clarifying inquiries.
I have never had a bad meal at Barking Mad. Breakfast is our favorite meal there. The food is fresh and delicious and the drinks are good too. I hope to see more organic and gluten free options in the future.
I love Barking Mad Café, this weekend service was poor. We had to remind the waiter numerous time he forgot our coffee and drinks. I noticed the service has been going down, needs major overall
Love the avocado toast
Their coffee and pastries are delicious, the brunch and its value are overall good. The space itself is fun and modern, but a little tight. During my last visit, they seemed understaffed and their responsiveness was slower than my previous experiences. Overall good spot for brunch and would visit again.
Sat on the Patio on a beautiful Friday night, enjoying a delicious pizza & listening to a great classic rock band, Dreamstreet
Very nice neighborhood restaurant. We tried the outdoor patio for the first time as the weather was fantastic and it was really nice. The food was excellent also.
The food was great. Unfortunately, the service was bad. We had to wait very long periods of time for our food and drinks to get to us.
Love this restaurant but soured by reservation system and poor communication. Cannot make a reservation for 7 people online. Attempted to call multiple times on Saturday morning, afternoon, and evening and they didn’t answer phone. Finally booked for 6 and showed up with 7, where the host admitted it is setup to take bookings of 6.
As always loved the food
Barking Mad Cafe experience was pleasant. Food very good, staff friendly and helpful. Bartender, needs to study his drink recipes. Manhattans were unlike any I've tasted before.
I love this place and it’s generally great, but yesterday it was super slow service. I had my 11 am reservation and was sat down at 11:21. Then no one came to the table to ask for drinks until it was about 11:35am. When I asked the server, he said they were having IT issues. The staff is great but yesterday it was a tremendous miss. Usually the staff is very communicative, but yesterday it was just poor. I will continue to come only because I know the place and staff are great, but if yesterday would have been my first time, I would never come back.
The food was great the waiter just didn’t listen to what we wanted. He brought us extra things we didn’t order and when we told him that we didn’t order it he got an attitude with us. We went over the order 3 times and he still got it wrong,
Very good creative dishes and very good value.
Birthday brunch was lovely!
Have been to Barking Mad many times (just 2 or 3 people); however we wanted to celebrate a family members B'day & made a reservation for 5 -- on arrival, I was greeted by numerous amounts of "I don't know what I'm doing" by host - reminded them of my reservation - & had to wait while a table area was thrown together for us (last minute ?) in an area that was cramped - had to flag down server - repeatedly ask for individual plates for appetizers - & request food order be taken. I've worked (many years) in the restaurant/food industry as a server & I understand last minute issues & overcrowding - however, we all were somewhat unsettled by the lack in service and accommodation - perhaps, it's best if one comes in with a 2 to 3 person party - I'm not sure I would want to return with another large party (even with a reservation) - we really loved the cuisine & in the past have had great service. Just was a bit disappointed after this last get together.
Nothing special food-wise. Service is slow and not great. It's like they don't care for your business. Two of us ordered a side of fruit, and the waiter decided the fruit that comes with the kids' meal is all we needed, because they were running low on berries. Hostess is rude, again, seems like being served here is an annoyance to the staff. I wouldn't be surprised if it goes under sooner than later.
This place is one of our local brunch favorites, but this visit was rather disappointing. It seemed that the restaurant was understaffed, and it took a while to get the items we requested. We had also ordered alcoholic drinks, but the waiter didn't tell us until 20 minutes after we ordered that alcohol is not served until 10 a.m. Had we known this, we would have gone somewhere else as we were celebrating a birthday. The food was still exquisite, but unfortunately the service and attention you usually give your guests was severely lacking this time around.
The food and service are always top-notch. However, as we have stated in the past the music is entirely too loud - especially for breakfast.
We love this restaurant! The service is great and even when it is crowded the wait never seems too long. The only reason for 4 rather than 5 stars is dogs in the outside dining area. Dog hair will get in your food which is not only unsanitary and disgusting but just unpleasant. I understand some people want to take their dogs out and that’s great, up to the point where other people have to bear the cost. The solution: eat inside. So not a terribly big deal, just an inconvenience during the fair weather months.
The Barking Mad Cafe is one of my new favorite restaurants! The food is fabulous, the service is great and it's just a fun atmosphere!
Service was slow and the food was mediocre. We felt forgotten about as it took almost 20 minutes to get our drinks and our service rarely made an appearance.
Absolutely great! Can't wait to go back! Fabulous venue!
The only saving quality of this visit was the entree. Went at 10:30 on a Saturday morning, sat outside. Plenty of empty tables so not that busy but the service was horrible. Took 20 min to order drinks and another 20 to order entrees. Each time we had to seek the server out. Then desserts took 15 min to come out but didn’t have half of the ingredients on them! Terrible experience. Won’t be back for a long time.
A great place for lunch...a very good seasonal watermelon salad and tasty chicken sandwich with wonderful French fries.
One of my favorite brunch places in Gaithersburg. Always a great time when I go.
