Cacio Pepe had no pepe.
The pasta was served cold and our waiter did not tell us about the specials.
4 pasta dishes took 2 hours to be made. We had an 8pm reservation and received food at 10pm. It was an incredibly busy Saturday night after a holiday event in Little Italy. Maybe this restaurant does better on weeknights? The food was excellent when it did arrive 2 hrs later.
We had a reservation but they didnt have a table ready. And the hostess was rude and could not keep her composure under stressful situation. The good thing about it was the good and ambiance.
They were way overbooked and we had to wait a bit for our table even with a reservation. We were put at a table that wasn’t actually in any servers section. Once we did get a server though the experience was great. He was so helpful, friendly and funny. The food was spectacular. Main courses did take a while to come out just because if busy the restaurant was. But overall I will definitely come back and recommend it to anyone. They were overwhelmed but ultimately handled the situation great.
Lobster ravioli was amazing and the scallops were also delicious! Definitely coming back for both and their expresó martinis were also good
I came to allegro because of the menu, the pictures on yelp and the overall rating. I was disappointed. The ambience was great it was a very nice restaurant but it didn't seem like anybody knew what was going on. The busboys were trying to give us items that we didn't order and they had to search around to find the right table. My order looked like it was half the size of a normal portion and that it was thrown together. There was no egg yolk and the pieces of pork belly were just thrown on the plate. I was still hungry afterward and had to go to another place to fill up. My friends dish was the tortellachi and there really wasn't any flavor it basically tasted like mac and cheese there was like one pea amidst the whole dish. It needed some pepper and parmesan. Would I come here again? No.
Great food. Great location. Super helpful staff. But they were completely overwhelmed. We had to ask three times for water, twice for bread. Staff was super professional and friendly, there was just not enough of them.
Food wasn’t very good. Salmon sauce was sour. Veggies under done.
Wonderful neighborhood restaurant that lives up to it's expectations. It's one of the very few restaurants that is open later than most which is a plus especially when you have guest flying after 8pm want a exquisite and filling meal. The dishes I tried were the Insalata Allegro-butter lettuce, roasted walnuts, pears, crumbled blue cheese, whole grain mustard vinaigrette. A perfectly gratifying salad to start off with. Followed by these shared entrees of the Pappardelle Al Ragu e Porcini ribbon pasta with braised meat ragu and porcini mushrooms and Seared Scallops -over lobster mashed potatoes, blood orange citrus emulsion. Pappardelle had the perfect balance of savory and the feeling of good comfort food. The seared scallops with the lobster mash wash the grand finale that made you want to like the plate clean!!
Do not order the charcuterie board. Overrated. The pasta was salty as well :(
Service was great, the food, not so much. The appetizer was SO overpriced for what you get: razor thinly sliced beef carpaccio with a giant heap of arugula on top. Basically a $22 arugula salad with a sprinkle of see-through beef. Very disappointing.
For the entree, the carrots and broccoli under my salmon limoncello were raw. Not cooked in the slightest, maybe blanched. I could have made this dish myself for $4. Very unimpressed.
It’s with a heavy heart that I write this review. Service was awful- took 25mins for 2 glasses of wine. It was so disorganized we had 3 waiters during our dinner. It’s breaks my heart to rate a neighborhood restaurant low but after giving it 3 chances they can’t get the food to be consistent or even good. for that matter. Whatever you do never order the tuna it’s the lower possible quality .
Our server was sometimes there and sometimes not. The food was not that good especially for the value. No one got us any silverware until we asked for it (after our food arrived) even though a host had sat us at this table. Overall it was an unimpressive experience.
Do not recommend food. Good service. Things were cold and we got a glob of fat for the short rib. Seafood pasta was very cold and cacio de Pepe did not have pepper.
Just right for a unique Thanksgiving meal for two on the patio. Every bite was delicious and we’re so glad our Server suggested the Limoncello cake dessert. We’ll be back.
Amazing service!! Paid attention to the detail about it being a birthday without having to be mentioned, will recommend
Grease place, Waitress was so fun and spoke to us! Can’t thank you enough!
Very popular restaurant in that district seems like they want to rush you in and out to fill their tables
Great food, service, and atmosphere. My third visit and of course it was not disappointing
One of the most amazing restaurants in little Italy . They were able to accommodate us and sit us under the lemon patio . They were super busy but the staff always made sure everything was ok . THE STAFF WAS AMAZING AND SWEET . The fooood was OUT OF THIS WORLD . I got the chef special : pasta w lobster shrimp and scallops . Would definitely go back
Way, way, way too noisy inside. Overshadowed the very good food, reasonable prices and service.
Got an outdoor table in a busy a saturday night. Other than wafts of nad odour from the homeless, it was quite delightful to dine streetside. Good was great. We had a beautiful branzino and shared four appetisers - octopus, bone marrow, a wonderfully prepared roasted artichoke, and crab cake. Portions are large so be prepared. Service was prompt and friendly.
The food was so so. The Ribeye was covered in a gravy type sauce. The sauce was overtaking the ribeye. Was not able to really enjoy the steak. The tuna came out so cold almost froze. The service was great but will not go back and not worth the cost.
We dined at Allegro for my Mother’s 86th birthday and sat outside adjacent to the fire pit. Our server, Samuel, was excellent and very personable. The food was great! We ordered the garlic knots, fried calamari, Caesar salad, crab cakes, lobster ravioli, the filet and salmon. They brought out a sweet cream lemon cake with berries that was light and delicious! It’s pricey but totally worth it. Be prepared to wait because this place gets really busy.
Wine came out in a glass with lip prints!!!! In Covid time????
Table on side walk was very unstable, water spilled
Seafood pasta was over priced and sauce was watery. Would’ve have thought for that price the sauce would have been thicker and more flavorful
Service extraordinary. Food spot on. Outdoor seating amazing.
The hostess sat us down promptly as well as accommodating our seating preferences. Our waitress was kind, friendly and attentive and it was a pleasure to have her! The food was adequate and mildly disappointing as far as our entrees went. I had a rib eye (medium) in gravy sauce with fries and my boyfriend had the venison which he said he liked. My rib eye lacked flavor and was incredibly soggy since the gravy sauce drenched my fries. The rib eye was by far the least savory item we ordered. We also had the garlic balls as an appetizer, mashed potatoes and mushrooms on the side. We ordered a lava cake to go and was happy with the choice.
Side note we were celebrating my birthday and I thought the hostess asked so that they would bring out a birthday cake / song. I noticed another table was celebrating their bday and their server brought over a small cake; I am not sure if it was requested or not but that would have been nice if they did it on their own
Delicious Food, Excellent Service, and great location.
We had the cheese wheel with penne and truffle mushrooms, exquisite. I highly recommend and can't wait to go back.
Insanely busy, but sat us at a super wobbly table, two minutes
If you want to experience Little Italy, sit outside at Allegro on a Saturday night and enjoy top notch service, great drinks, and out of this world food while the nightlife dances by. A truly wonderful experience.
My wife and I shared the seafood pasta special which came with half a lobster. Spectacular, lots of prawns, scallops but No tools for eating the lobster, no bowl or wet naps for cleaning up after trying to eat the lobster with our hands. They told us where the washroom was. What a mess! What are they thinking?
Service was abrupt and impersonal. Food was extremely average
Great food and service. Our waitress was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Will definitely come back here next time I’m in San Diego!
Mixed bag. My cocktail was bad. The oysters and duck ragu were meh. My wine was ok. My wife’s wine and pappardelle were good. Service was very good tho. Overall wouldn’t go back or recommend it to anyone.
Service was great. Food was delicious. I had the gnocchi and it was nice and creamy with great flavor.
