This was an anniversary dinner. When server learned of this, we were brought two smaller glasses 🥂 of champagne and a small table sign perfect for inclusion in photo. Food excellent, especially Scottish Salmon, whipped potatoes, lobster bisque, cream Brule. Servers excellent. Jason was very attentive, pleasant ,and fun to talk with. Wine expert Craig was pleasant and knowledgeable. Second visit and not the last.

My husband and I went last night for our anniversary. Our server, Valerie, was excellent and proactively attended to our every need. She was personable, attentive, and very knowledgeable. Our drinks and food were excellent. I had a tiramisu espresso martini and my husband had an old fashion. For dinner, we opted for the filet and new york strip. Our sides were roasted carrots and green beans. Everything was SO good! The bread with honey butter was delicious and warm. For dessert, we had the bread pudding. We had hoped the bread pudding would be a bit larger to share! We will return the next time we are celebrating a special occasion!

This was the best dinner overall we have ever experienced in Richmond . I am from Richmond and am 73 years old. This is a huge testimonial!

It just wasn’t good. The server was inattentive. Food was very slow to the table. A $75+ steak came out overcooked. Creamed spinach smelled like dirty clothes. The server never asked how we liked the food despite a lot of it not being eaten. Overall it was a bad experience.

The restaurant was lively and people enjoying themselves. The service is excellent as well as the food. I look forward to going to 1870 every chance I get.

We were excited to dine at this restaurant, as the chef has an incredible resume. I ordered the filet w/shallot, merlot butter, and the caesar salad. The salad was great, very garlicky, which if you are a garlic lover it was amazing. The steak was perfectly cooked, and delicious. The butter was a nice accompaniment to the steak. Service was good, not over the top or attentive, but good. It is very loud on a Saturday night, which made conversation hard to hear.

We had an excellent dining experience! The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was great. Our waiter was incredibly attentive and made some fantastic recommendations. We ended up eating way too much and had to take the leftovers home with us. The only slight issue we had was when they boxed my asparagus with my wife's leftover duck, and she absolutely hates asparagus – but that just meant more for me! The restaurant did get a bit loud as the evening went on and more reservations started to fill in, but overall, it didn’t detract too much from the experience. We’ll definitely be back!

This was our second time at 1870 and it was as good as the last time. Mia took great care of us and she was extremely knowledgeable about everything on the menu. As she described everything, I wanted to order them all. We ended up ordering just about the same thing we did when we first came because it was so amazing. Everyone is s welcoming, and the food is delicious. This is our favorite restaurant and plan to be back at least once a month. If you have not visited here, you need to. You will not be disappointed.
