Amazing meal and dining experience for our anniversary! Our server (forgot her name) was fabulous! She was so attentive and had wonderful suggestions. We would definitely recommend 1870!

Absol;utly another wonderful meal and experience at 1870. They never fail to impress. To put my rave review in perspective, I have had the fortune of dining at some of the countries and worlds best restaurants.

I have eaten there many times and it has been absolutely wonderful. Tonight must have been an off night. My fiancée ordered a medium well steak and his was medium rare. I ordered a filet medium rare it was medium well. His potatoes were good but luke warm. I had talked it up to him and was let down that he hadn’t been wowed like I had in the past. Having said that, I truly believe it was just an off night…if you’re looking for ambience with some Christmas thrown in, this is it. The playlist was on point! Wish our steak was….

First time visiting 1870. Craig greeted us and was very hospitable. We sat at the bar on the second floor. Cocktails were great! Ordered the duck & lobster bisque. Both home runs! Can’t wait to go back! Emily was a very attentive bartender.

Our first time at 1870 did not disappoint, we will be going back. The lobster bisque with puff pastry was sizable and decadent, enough for two to split as we did. My filet was prepared exactly to my liking and was so tender, not an ounce of fat to be found. My husband polished off a savory two rib 16 ounce pork chop. The accompaniments of carrots and au gratin potatoes had amazing flavor as well. For dessert the bread pudding had a lovely crust yet was moist and rich. For drinks the brown butter washed old fashioned was well presented and very tasty. Pair the Horton Port with the bread pudding and enjoy. Our server, Journey, was super attentive. We had a great first experience.

Having eaten at Chef Dunlap's Midlothian Chef's Kitchen restaurant we have been very eager to try his new restaurant, 1870. It's located in an historic building on Midlothian Turnpike. The inside of this historic property has been beautifully decorated. It felt comfortably luxurious. We sat upstairs in the bar where we had reserved a table. The bar area is comfortable, lively and continues the theme of the decor. We were there for Happy Hour. The drinks were delicious and the food on offer was amazing. We all got the smashburger - the main menu features steak so we knew the burger would be excellent and it was. I also need to shout out the fries - they came out hot and crispy. The bar filled up with a convivial crowd. Our server Emily was personable and kept up with how we were doing with our food and drinks. We are already looking forward to going back.

Our bartender, Emily, was very knowledgeable and helpful. She provided commendable service! The happy hour menu is very good. Our dinner was outstanding! The food quality is amazing!!! We can’t wait to come back.

Had dinner upstairs in the bar. Very loud, very dark (which I suppose masquerades as ambience). The soup was excellent as was the mussels (although there was much broth but few mussels). My dining companion loved her burrata. The hanger steak was good but under seasoned.

It was a lovely experience in the upstairs bar. The food was amazing with the perfect bite, even though we only tried appetizers it was superb. Drinks were good, but what really made it was the top notch service, and atmosphere. We can’t wait to go back for dinner!
