Pujol lived up to our expectations and more/ What a gorgeous restaurant- beautifully laid out, with a lovely garden and bar to enjoy. Olivera's cuisine has taken Mexican cooking to the very highest level and must be experienced by anyone interested in the very best/
We had superb service, excellent drinks and delicious , innovative food- they heard us talking about my daughter celebrating her birthday and surprised us with a memorable desert for her with candle etc- what a delightful and delicious night we had- we will never forget it!
Sabores excelentes, orgullo mexicano.
Amazing dining experience as every bit worth the hype! Well priced too
We were really excited to come here and left underwhelmed and frustrated that we had spent $400 (for 2 with drinks and tip) and that it did not feel worth the expense.
The space was beautiful, that can't be argued.
The service was attentive but cold and somewhat impersonal and mechanical. For example, when I asked about a digestif, the waiter ( sommelier?) said “we have two options.” I then saw him showing another table several options and there was clearly a whole bar to choose from, so it seemed like he did not want to spend the time with us.
The food was the biggest disappointment. Despite the gorgeous presentation and all of the pomp and circumstance that goes into everything, we just found most of the dishes to be mediocre. The flavors were not complicated and sometimes bland, and with a couple of exceptions (mole and the basil tomatillo) not interesting. Nothing that I ate made surprised me or seemed special enough to live up to the very impressive reputation.
We had eaten at Quintonil a few nights prior and it must be said that it was a superior experience in every way, and the food there was outstanding. We wish we had eaten there twice it was so fantastic. We also ate at the new restaurant in Condesa, Pehua, which was also much better food, with lovely service, even if the space needs a little attention.
Amazing use of ingredients and freshness.
We only had a few hours to explore Mexico City; we're glad we spent some of it a Pujol. Excellent and friendly service, delightful progression of flavors, and a great way to spend our anniversary.
Amazing well thought out food. Staff was on point and very attentive. Very pleased with the experience.
Just go. Relax and take your time to enjoy the whole experience. You can eat cheaper elsewhere, but you cannot match this service, ambience and menu. Unforgettable experience and worth every penny.
I had been looking forward to dining at this restaurant with high reputation. But, I was a bit
disappointed with a few aspects:
(1) the food was not so delicious. the taste is a bit complicate. For example, spice on vanila icecream. I would rather have it without spice.
(2) Service is not smoothe. the reataurant tells you that the reservation will be kept for 15 min
after the appointed time and it would be automatically cancelled. We arrived at the restaurant
on time, but, waited for about 30 minutes for the first dish came to the table.
(3) We told the service person that we cannot eat coriander. But, it was used in the main dish
so, we did not eat.
Absolutely the best meal I've ever had in terms of food, service, and ambience.
I don’t need to go on about the food. The reviews are accurate. It is one of the best restaurants in the world. The service is flawless. The ambience wonderful, the crowd hip. The menu online lists no prices. FYI my lunch (they only have a prix fixe) with one glass of house wine and a 15% tip was $135. One note: I am a solo traveler, a widower. On open table they will not take a reservation for one. If you try to make it the site claims there are no tables available . I made it for two, tables were suddenly available. I showed up, claimed my dining companion was sick (I didn’t bother to mention, dead) and they were gracious to me. Just a heads up for solo diners. It was a memorable and special experience for my last day in DF.
Worth every peso. Molè was 1500+ days old and AMAZING. "Rice" was an excellent risotto, lamb was cooked to perfection, 16 hour smoked pineapple for dessert, any the restaurant brought out a small sorbet dish for my wife's birthday. Thanks Pujol!
PS - there is no paired wines with the tasting menu, and some dishes are surely better than others, so it is possible to make several poor choices and have a less than perfect meal, but that's on the guest, not the kitchen.
Excellent food & service
Incredible tasting menu with creative and delicious dishes. Service was friendly, attentive, and overall excellent. Lives up to their reputation, a must-visit when in CDMX.
The food was amazingly good, every course of the tasting menu was a delight.
We ordered the drink pairing with our meal. Each pairing was spot on & a good match with the course. Unfortunately, not each course has a pairing & you are expected to pair one wine with two different courses. This was not explicitly stated upon ordering & the pairing was overpriced for what you ultimately receive.
Service on a whole was rushed. At one point a server went to remove my partner's soup before she was finished. They "allowed" her to finish, however, a server & sommelier stood by waiting until she did finish, so they could remove the bowl & begin pouring our next wine.
First time in Mexico City
great experience! from the food to the ambience and service, Pujol lived up to all the hype surrounding it.
I would not recommend it at all. The food was pretentious, the rice dish was without much flavour, The lobster was tasteless. And the lamb was cold.
Many good and phenomenal things have been said about Pujol but our experience there last week was underwhelming, at best - tepid. I'll explain. Upon arrival, one can tell that Mr. Olvera's design team spent an inordinate amount of time designing the new space but the harsh lighting both on the guests and on the food does little to highlight and enhance, but more to hinder the relaxing enjoyment of the food. The closely-spaced tables and lack of noise reducing elements in the space also didn't help. The atmosphere felt more busy trattoria than refined dining.
As far as the food, I appreciate and value the exploration of taste and flavors of Mexican cuisine in a very novel and experimental way but the "New Math" was a challenge to understand, if anything, was not explained well. When every dish arrived, the wait staff rattled in quick fire succession the ingredients and preparation behind the dish. I can follow when I'm being served truffles or even calamansi sorbet but not when I'm being served sea bass in cacahuatzintle juice. There's something to be said (in a Proustian way) about the comforts of familiar tastes and how those experiences induce positive emotions but new tastes, not presented correctly, can be both daunting and ultimately unappetizing.
Overall, we thought Pujol was more hype than an ethereal experience and we truly question why it made it to #20 of the Top 50 Restaurants in the World. Really? -- of all the spectacular restaurants out there in the world? There has got to be a strong political explanation to this ranking, we went home thinking... We are enamored by being edified about food but this was a novel that was way too foreign for the comforts of our gustatory minds.
Excellent experience for my birthday. Appreciated every moment. Probably can't say anything new that others have, so I'll just confirm it all.
Easily one of the best meals of my life. Meals like this only come around once in a blue moon.
Amazing dining experience. The ambiance, staff and of course the food we're impeccable!
We have never been to Mexico City. One of the reasons that we decided to come was after watching Chef’s Table with Enrique Olivera. We were not disappointed. The s Brice from being greeted to the very end was perfect. The ambiance was elegant but casual with a calming tropical feel being brought in through large windows. The street snacks of a petite gordita and the curiously tasty small street corn with ant mayonnaise was so wonderful. (I really need more of this!). My husband and I tried to have a wide variety of the menu by choosing different items. Rice with geoduck. Octopus with ink sauce (sooo tender and tasty). The lobster infladita and papadzul were good, not the shining stars. Husband had the lamb chops with mint mole and I had roasted cauliflower with chicken skin and macha sauce. We both loved these items. Then the big moment of the “mother” mole with the new mole. Amazing contrast in flavors. Worthy of the hype! Then dessert. Apple tamal. I wasn’t too excited by this but our table neighbor loved it. The 16-hr roasted pineapple with molasses and coriander ice cream my husband had was deliciouso! We had several lovely cocktails through the evening and ended the night with a couple of artisinal mezcals. The evening will long be remembered!
Full of foreigners, extremely dark both not a good sign however service was impecable. First 3 courses of tasting menu good but not awe inspiring unfortunately mains and desert on the disappointing side.
The best dining experience we've ever had. All the courses were unique and delicious and the service outstanding. Taking dessert on the relaxing patio was a nice way to finish.
Top Five meals ever. I took my sister for her bday dinner. We are Mexicans born and raised in Los Angeles. It was our first visit to Mexico City since we were children. To have a meal reflect our childhood food memories in such an elevated way was very special. Every bite was spectacular.
The service- top notch! The service was hands down the most genuine and caring service. We are lucky enough to have had many fine dining experiences but this was another level. Our server was friendly and warm with a wonderful humor. We found this to be true of everyone that approached the table. I wish I could remember the somm’s name. He was wonderful and hit the mark on every wine pairing. The space was very beautiful and we wished we could have stayed longer. We will be coming back soon! Bravo Pujol team!
