Passage to India is our favorate Indian restaurant because the quality of the food and it’s preparation are excellent. We would recommend it to anybody wanting great food and subtle use of spices.
My friend & I were the only ones in the restaurant during lunch. During this time of COVID, I don’t know how they are surviving, altho I’m sure they have a thriving take-out business.. The food — chicken tikka masala, palak paneer, lentil stew & garlic naan — was spectacular & out of this world delicious! We highly recommend this restaurant!
Play some soft music in the background. It would greatly help with the vibe.
Always a delicious meal.
Always the best food. Glad to be back at the restaurant.
So glad it's open again and good to be back at the restaurant...always delicious...
Passage to India is a serene place to enjoy a broad range of Indian specialties. The decor is soothing and the service attentive but not hovering.
Buena experiencia
This among our favorite restaurants. The food is always excellent, the service very attentive, and the atmosphere is welcoming, comfortable and conducive to conversation.
The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The food was great.
Not the largest portions compared to other Indian restaurants but the variety and quality now then make up for their size. Wonderful food, highly recommend.
Menu item names are fancy but actual preparation are far from real. We are living in US for almost 50 years, ate in more than 100 Indian restaurants. Two of us originally from East India and two from North. So, we are very familiar with most types of Indian food. We ordered one item from east, one from down south and one from north. Ironically, all have the same gravy, have nothing to do with the region. Even tandur chicken was burnt. I wish they change the fancy names.
Valentine’s Day
It was the best choice to go here for Valentine’s dinner! The food and service were excellent, the ambience was nice, and the restaurant was not crowded :)
Lovely ambience for Valentine’s Day lunch at our favorite Indian restaurant. Delicious food, wonderful service, and setting. We will be back.
The food was delicious especially the lamb. The wine is reasonably priced and the wait staff were very friendly and courteous. Overall, a very nice dining experience.
Passage to India is consistently excellent. The food is delicious, the ambiance is very nice, and the service is excellent.
We enjoyed our dinner though some dishes fell short of wonderful. We loved the chicken tikka, but the fish curry had very little flavor. We will definitely return.
Excellent variety of Indian food from various regions in India. Reasonable prices although it is not cheap. Very high quality of preparation and excellent service in an attractive restaurant, combined with a quiet ambiance.
This place is notable for the menu arranged by region. They have dishes you are not likely to see elsewhere, with varied choices of meat, fish, vegetarian and vegan from different areas of India, along with general sections of appetizers and breads. The food is excellent and the prices attractive. It took a while for the server to take our order, but once that happened, our drinks and meal came promptly. The room is small, so despite the high ceiling, you hear your neighbors even when it's not full, but it's not distressingly loud.
Great Indian food and wine.
Absolutely incredible experience. The food was fantastic and the service was great. They were very helpful in helping us select dishes from their menu. We ended up trying the chef's selection which came with preselected appetizers and small sizes of the entree portions which was great to try many things! Would definitely come again.
great food, great service
Delicious food with excellent service 👍
Delicious variety of Indian food. Beautiful ambience. Great service and value.
The food is delicious, and there are many vegetarian and vegan options.
One of few Indian restaurants that serve regional cuisine and not just usual Punjabi Mughalai food. Food is tasty and authentic with great ambience
Consistently good food and service. $18 for a dark meet chicken dish is far from a good value, but food is decent.
In my opinion, Passage to India is one of the best restaurants in Montgomery County. It does everything very well. Tha ambiance, which consists of walls with beautiful prints of India, thick carpeting, attractive and comfortable furniture, white tablecloths, and decorative screens on parts of the window is very calming. When there are only a few customers, they are widely separated for privacy. The service is attentive, but not intrusive. However, it is the food that has me come at least once a month, sometimes alone and sometimes with my best friend. After trying a score of the entrees, I discovered the appetizers. The scallops are always exceptional and eight others that I have had are very good. Two are enough for a meal, but five for a party of two to share is even better. The lines of wines by the glass is short,, but well chosen and very reasonably priced at $8.95 a glass.
I was immediately met with a warm welcome upon my arrival and promptly seated. This being my first time, I have nothing but good things to say about Passage to India. The food was flavorful and delicious. The service and attentiveness to our needs were met swiftly and enthusiastically. The British colonial decor was well done as well and added to the dining experience. My girlfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed our date night and will surely be back!
Pleasant ambiance. Cordial service. Would reorder three of four entrees so very good but not perfect. We dine here at least once a year. Consistently enjoyable and reliable. Menu more varied than many other Indian restaurants. Quiet and subdued environment.
A great variety of Indian dishes from North, South, East and West. The menu was less familiar than those from other Indian restaurants, but the chefs plate sampler has a very good selection of foods. We enjoyed the restaurant and will return
I always love this restaurant. Food and service are good and I love the decor, fairly quiet. I go here probably once a month
Very tasty food and great service
I rate no Bethesda restaurant higher than Passage to India, but I don't rate it higher than four stars because I have only been to a dozen or so restaurants that are deserving of five stars and a Michelin rating. No restaurant in the area does scallops and mussels better than Passage to India. Despite the fact that I have tried more than a score of dishes, I have never been disappointed. The restaurant is attractive and quiet, something rare to find these days. The service is attentive, but not intrusive. The prices are reasonable. I only wishes that the list of wines by the glass were more extensive and the coffee were stronger.
Excellent regional Indian food.
Very well prepared and presented
Passage to India is fabulous. It is far and away our favorite restaurant.
Wonderful from beginning to end.
I am not a fan of Indian food. In fact when I traveled to India I lost 8 pounds in a week! My 10 year old grandson, when given the choice of where to eat, chose Indian food. I wasn't thrilled but decided to be a good example by being a good sport. WOW...was I surprised. The food was great! The service spectacular! Prices were reasonable...all in all a really good experience. I will be back!
Passage to India offers a wide variety of dishes from various regions in India. We've eaten here before and have always loved the variety, staff expertise in advising us on dishes and amounts to order so there's no overlap in flavors, and quantity and quality of food. The ambiance is quiet, tasteful, attractive. Yes, it's more expensive than your cheap asian restaurant, but the food is outstanding, the portions generous, service excellent, and peaceful.
An excellent dining experience.
