Rude vulgar kind of dirty snooty noisy overpriced stingy portions. it's a great place if by great you mean awful.
I had an unexpected great experience. The ambiance and decor is lovely
Was my first time at Padre. A few things distracted quite a bit from the experience. The smoke shop a few doors down was blaring their aggravating music, so Padre's outdoor dining area (quite nice) wasn't so pleasant.
I also ordered a Cadillac margarita which was very bland, non-distinctive.
The chips and guacamole as well as their stylized lomo saltado was very nice.
Love taco Tuesday. $5 margs & 3 for $5 tacos is so gooood
Padre's was supposed to be open at 11am on Monday. We waited outside until 11:25 and no one unlocked the doors. we saw one of the workers walk into the building at 10:50 and double checked with her that doors open at 11am, and she replied yes.
First time here and we'll be back. Really terrific, fresh, flavorful food of central Mexico-not your typical "Mexican"food-this is elevated without being pretentious. Great service on top of it all. Note-they call them tapas/shared plates but the portions were very generous-each could have been a meal alone.
Padre's vibe is extremely cool and fits well into this urban area of Long Beach. I loved the decorations, and the cocktails were well crafted. The food portions are smaller than expected, but still filling and of great quality nevertheless. Although I went for brunch, this would be a great place to hang out on a weekend evening.
My husband and I went for the first time, my husband was starving, they will tell you they have tapas style, but they serve a lot of food, we had the tuna tartar for appetizer it was delicious and very good size, we also order fried yucca and it was great, not greasy at all. My husband had the pork and I had 2 tacos, let me tell you that was a lot of fun. I highly recommend this place. They were busy and they had one server, but he had helped, he got busier towards the end. Not his fault, the restaurant needs to hire more servers.
We love coming here! One of our favorite places in LB. Thanks for another memorable night.
I've been to Padre twice in the last three weeks, and enjoyed it both times. Their happy hour is great - $7 for really good and unusual drinks. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgable, and helped us select drinks and food. Three of us shared steak tips, lomo saltado, and grilled broccoli, and all were excellent. The churro bites were a little raw and doughy in the middle, but they tested great, and there were enough for 3 of us. I will definitely go back.
We waited for one hour for our food and left without eating!
Was visiting in Long Beach, saw Padre and made a reservation because it looked fun. What a gem! The lIve DJ played great music while we sat outside and took in the neighborhood. Happy hour is an outstanding value-recommend the Tijuana Pharmacy and rum punch pitchers-but there are 4 or 5 other craft cocktails I will need to try on my next visit. Food was fresh and unique-we loved everything we tried-including crickets in the guacamole! Service was genuine and efficient. This restaurant is highly recommended!
We sat in the bar area so it was noisy. The food was good and the tapas size were larger than I expected. It's a great place to share several dishes with a group of friends.
Bartenders are amazing! Johnny is the best I go back just for him, drinks are soooo goood. But the server was AWFUL, she came by only once, I almost left without paying
Drinks are a little on the pricier side but overall good
I've been here twice and both times were amazing! The bartenders are super cool and helpful. The servers rock and deliver on point service! The decor makes me feel like I'm at home. The food was bomb af! I thought it was affordable for the quality of food and service. The music selection for their house radio brought it all together for me. Not a bad way to start a Sunday, with eggs Benedict, a michelada and the Smith's Everday day is like Sunday playing.
Too noisy, needs a better menu and pricing on the other hand Love the decor, wait staff and hostess.
Service in the bar and restaurant were impeccable. The food absolutely makes this a 'go-to'. The street corn and brussel sprouts were amazing!!! Also got the fish, duck and chicken tacos that were all prepared perfectly. In the past, I've also had the bacon wrapped hot dog at HH ... WOW!!!
Love this place ....
We had a great time for my husbands birthday and Joshua was a great server!
My boyfriend and I wanted to try a new place in our neighborhood, but ended up regretting our decision in choosing Padre. Our appetizer (Oaxaca wings) was clearly forgotten about and didn't arrive until after our meal was basically done. They were dry and only tasted like chocolate, not like mole. I ordered the cioppino, which had a solid layer of oil just sitting on top. My boyfriend's tacos had no flavor. We also weren't offered water until the HOSTESS walking by noticed that we didn't have any. I'm never one to write a review, but this place was incredibly disappointing, especially considering the price point.
The food was great and all the servers worked great as a team to make our dining experience exceptional.
There was a worm in my oyster
I have visited a few times and enjoyed my time and meal there. This past time, the service was a little slow but since we were dining with friends we don't see often it wasn't too noticeable.
Super noisy. They really turn up the music. Glad we weren't trying for an intimate evening. Food was perfectly nice. Apparent at every level: They were seriously understaffed. New kid at the bar, very slow, took forever just to pour two glasses of wine, while his colleague blazed through about a dozen complicated mixed drinks at lightning speed. The waitress was super nice, but a bit overbusy. We asked for outside seating (considering how loud it was inside), and the maitre d' suggested we wait at the bar till something became available. We took our drinks out to sit outside at the bar (considering how loud it was inside), and then the maitre d' came and asked whether that location would be O.K. for us to eat too. Hmmm. First of all, if that's where your "outside" tables are, there were a dozen places available when we first walked up, so why not just seat us there in the first place? Second, the really nicer "outside" areas would be upstairs, away from street traffic and noise, with what would have been a gorgeous view of the full moon rising, Venus setting, and a perfect warm evening, like summer. But that area was closed off. Why? I'm sure they don't have enough staff to serve it. They barely had enough staff to stay attentive to our area. Everyone was really conscientious and tried to do their best and make sure we were happy (and we were—we were not feeling demanding), but I'd judge that this maybe is a better spot for a beer and watching the game than for a really nice occasion with a sit-down meal and a relaxing atmosphere. I suspect that's the crowd they're after anyhow. I enjoyed the food. And I suspect you cannot go wrong with the complicated mixed beverages. I have watched a lot of bartenders, and I can't remember ever seeing one work as fast or as perfectly as this one did. Just not his friend who had to pour a glass of wine three times to get it to the level where he considered it was perfect. Dude: It's a glass of wine. Get over it.
The tacos are ok, but I have had way better ones. Enjoyed the cocktails. Service was terrible for happy hour.
Brought my wife and 16 others here for her 25th birthday. Amazing, great food and service.
The food was not to my palate are the 10 people I brought with me. we have to return three dishes because the food was overcooked are had no flavor to it. The chicken was like rubber I was extremely disappointed and embarrassed because I brought my friends who where from out of town it's like a high dollar taco stand and the tacos were not that good .
Delicious food, superb really. Too loud for groups to speak comfortably, but it's a great place to party.
The food really had no flavor and the server was no where to be found
The food is amazing and the service was fine. But the place is very loud and we felt like we were yelling at each other. But, we'll be returning soon, maybe on a week night and hopefully it will be not as loud.
Ate brunch with my family but my order was forgotten. Had to mention it to our waitress to have my dish prepared. However, I was compensated by our waitress by having the dish removed from our bill. Good food overall with reasonable prices.
Food was very good. The cioppino was amazing.
The bar is very noisy but the dining room was nice.
The server was nice and attentive but the kitchen was slow and everything, appetizers and main course, arrived at the same time.
But the cucumber margaritas made it all good.
Loved the food, drinks, and the service. Happy hour is a great deal, everything was absolutely delicious! Our party had the chicken, duck, and octopus tacos; nikkei salad; Peruvian mac n' cheese; guacamole; salsa; sofritos flat bread; Brussel sprouts. We indulged in their Tequila Pharmacy, Something Really Good; holy water; sin nombre; and the sucker that dusted spider. Unbelievable, most of these menu items were $5 until 7pm. I loved our server (shout out to Darwin), the hostess, the vibe, the food, the drinks. 10/10 would go again, and again, and again.
Thank you so much for your wonderful service. My family and I were celebrating my graduation from graduate school so this was a perfect spot to bring everyone together, eat, drink, and be merry together. Your staff was so accommodating and always checked in with us, which I appreciate so much. Keep it up, Padre!
Already a fan, I hosted a birthday dinner for 9 that was phenomenal! The table and space allowed plenty of room and the food and service were outstanding. Highly recommend for all occasions.
Servers were overwhelmed, kitchen was slow and inconsistent, noise level very high
Food was excellent, but service was among the worst I've ever seen. I think they were slammed, because they were pretty clearly understaffed for a Saturday night. One of the dishes that we ordered came out pretty quickly, the rest came about 30 minutes later, and the last two never arrived. Our waiter came by and asked if we wanted to cancel our entree since it still hadn't arrived, which struck me as a pretty strange thing to suggest. No apology, no attempt to make it right, and the waiter pretty pointedly ignored our table after that. After an hour, we eventually managed to flag her down and had her cancel the two remaining dishes that still hadn't arrived.
I'd recommend avoiding Padre on Friday/Saturday night based on what I saw, but if you can get there during a less busy hour, it may be worth it. The margaritas were very good, and the sin nombre (rye whiskey-based cocktail) was excellent.
We had such a great experience at Padre. The staff was friendly and inviting even going out their way for us. The food was excellent and the vibe was energetic. Perfect for 30 somethings who want a little more mature experience. Don't forget to take advantage of the great Happy Hour!
This was my first visit to Padre and I was very impressed. They were double booked for the night and so we got to eat on the upstairs balcony which is reserved for events, and it was lovely! Also, even though they were double booked, we only had to wait about 15 minutes for a table and the service we received was excellent. The cocktails were wonderful, it was my first time trying Mezcal (delicious!) and all the food we got was very tasty. I wanted to eat the whole bowl of street corn by myself! I will definitely be coming back and I had a wonderful evening with friends!
Well, when we arrived the hostess said we did not have a reservation and tried to seat us in the bar on bar stools! I wasn't having any of that. They then seated us in the empty dining room which didn't seem to have any waiters assigned to us. Eventually we received service and the food came out timely and was enjoyed by all 6 of us.
