Cowboy Cut Ribeye Steak*
We were greeted when we arrived and seated immediately. Our waiter, George, greeted us once we were seated. Food was very good and served very hot. I had a ribeye which was served as ordered, RARE! My wife said her scallops were delicious.
Nice menu, good assortment. Service was quite mediocre for such a high end restaurant. Not bad but far from excellent.
Prices in the Capital Grill, Morton's , Hyde Park range.
For $60 + dish, Oscar style steak barely had a tea spoon of shredded crab ( not lump crab meat).
Ambiance very nice, but to get 5 stars, this place has a way yo go!
Wonderful birthday celebration. Good food and good wine. Would recommend if in Williamsburg
The service was great, the food on the other hand was not of the quality expected.
Waiter was fantastic. 75 dollar dry aged steak was not suitable for human consumption. It could make a marvelous shoe sole however.
Tasty but tough and chewy steaks. Would not go again
Our service, as well as the ambiance and atmosphere was truly first-rate excellence despite how busy the restaurant was. Considering dinner for two along with a few beers, glasses of wine, desserts and adult coffees came to over $350, I was expecting more flavor, quality and portion size from the main courses (both signature steaks with seafood) and have experienced better from popular chain steakhouses. There aren’t many options for fine dining in this area, so I’d only recommend if you’re sincerely insistent on something a few steps better than TGI Fridays.
Excellent Restaurant, great service and superb food. Great Place for a special occasion.
Our reservations for my wife and me to celebrate our 48th Wedding Anniversary, were for Sunday, September 19th at 6:15 PM; I previously indicated when I made reservations: "Special Occasion: 48th Wedding Anniversary". We arrived at 6:10 PM.
Aly, the Hostess seated us.
Kaiyna was our Server.
We ordered a bottle of wine, salad, and main course.
The wine arrived just as we were finishing our salad.
Our dinners were served; l however, all of the above took a long time.
I paid the bill and there were no delays on my wife or my part: ordering, eating, or paying.
When we departed (over 2 hours later), I spoke with the Aly, the Hostess, who was seated in the little office, facing a computer. I asked her if the reservations indicated a special occasion, and other questions, and she remained seated. She went over to the Hostess stand and advised: "Yes, 48th Wedding Anniversary; were you not provided a free bottle of Champagne"? I advised, "No, but I am not asking for a free bottle of Champagne. My wife and I often celebrate special occasions at Opus 9 and this was not the usual, wonderful experience. I thought that there would have been a card or something, reflecting our 48th Wedding Anniversary." She asked if I wanted to speak to Travis, the Manager, but he was unavailable, who was "addressing a problem in the kitchen."
Since moving to Williamsburg in 2013, we have dined at Opus 9 for birthdays, wedding anniversaries, and other special occasions.
Sadly, we were disappointed on Sunday, September 19, 2021.
This was probably the best steakhouse I've ever been to. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was wonderful.
This place is amazing! Food was delicious. Our waiter Cory was wonderful. Will definitely return next time we are in the area.
Food and service outstanding. Very disappointed that none of the wait staff, hostess or management wore masks. Will not go again until they mask up.
My Steak was bland, no seasoning whatsoever. Will not be returning .It was my anniversary and I was asked , what the occasion was , for what I don’t know, because nothing was said or done. Last year we went to Ruth Chris’s and they acknowledged it.
Cody our waiter was top notch, it was a special evening with my family celebrating something extremely important and he was extremely gracious. Steaks were cooked perfectly, had a great time
The level of service is not was not at the same level as compared to this past July. Very disappointed with this visit.
3 buddies had meatloaf w/mashed potatoes for lunch. Oh wow delicious!! There was nothing left on our plates!
You cannot go wrong when choosing Opus 9. Everything is perfect.
Elegant romantic delightful looking forward to returning for another romantic evening with my beloved husband.
they have a special Sun night and Mon night that is a great deal.
The food, service, and wine was exceptional. My only negative comment is that the overhead music distracted the overall ambiance. It sounded like a player piano in a saloon. Not a fitting choice for fine dining.
Thank you for your post. If ever the music is not to your liking, please let us know when you are here. We can change the player piano's internet settings and switch the music for you. We can also adjust the volume if that is ever an issue for you. We will do all that we can to make your visit a more perfect one.
Outstanding restaurant in every respect. This is the best steakhouse in Virginia and the lamb chops are darn good too. Service is excellent.
Unpretentious, delicious, can't remember when I've enjoyed a meal this much! Thank you!
Food was excellent, from appetizers to dessert. However, since we usually go to Opus 9 for lunch, I had not appreciated how expensive dinner would be. I was shocked at the pricing. My fault for not checking menu first. We had a lovely time, service was great, but we are unlikely to come back for dinner anytime soon. Just too pricey.
We have visited several times, each time we come to the area, and have had excellent experiences in the past. This trip fell short of our high expectations. Our table was in a high traffic area near the player piano which was surprising as we booked well ahead of time. Unlike the easy jazz played in previous visits the piano was programmed for rather mediocre versions of popular songs and was too loud until turned down at our request. The ahi tuna appetizer was excellent … well prepared and presented. The steaks were served on sizzling hot plates, which we like, but the kitchen did not take into account that the steaks would continue to cook, meaning both steaks ended up over done. The béarnais sauce was served in a cold ‘boat’ which cooled it done almost immediately. The management was polite in accepting our suggestions. The Saint Julien wine was excellent.
The service and ambiance is always good and we rate that high. We were eating with friends who were actually treating us to the meal so we didn’t want to complain. The steak lunch and the steak salad were both terrible! The steak itself was tough and tasteless. fortunately, the couple treating us made a better choice for themselves. In addition to poor quality meat, the Southwest salad dressing was so spicy I could not eat any of the letter covered in it. First time We have ever been so disappointed. We will be sure to not order steak meat in the future.
I really enjoyed those peppered scallops, then comes our dinner, my salon
Was cooked perfect, Our waitress was very attentive and helpful, she made our dining experience enjoyable
As always, the food was good, the service was good, and the atmosphere was outstanding! Thank you for an enjoyable experience.
3 year anniversary
Excellent food and outstanding service, Elizabeth was fantastic, we look forward to our return.
First time visitor but will be back. Outstanding wine list. Great steaks particularly the bo e in filet. Caprese featured an awesome basalmic vinegarette Price point is typical for a high end steak house but far superior quality and service. Great for a special occasion. Kudos to our waiter Elizabeth who did a fantastic job.
Server was amazing, the food was splendid, & my mom was surprised with her birthday treat! I was grateful for the accommodation!
Matt was awesome but the cowboy ribeye was underwhelming. No crust or flavor. 5th time at Opus and the steaks continue to underwhelm. Recommend a review of the kitchen staff… eventually being the only steak house in Williamsburg won’t suffice. 200 dollars for a less than Outback quality steak.
Lovely setting with loads of ambiance. A server who was interested in our thoughts and needs; all the servers were very nicely dressed. It was a pleasure to see them. We each had a 3 course meal-all of which was outstanding. The seafood medly was really good, as were the crab cakes. Sides were very generous. This was my second trip to Opus 9, and we took friends with us who were also very pleased with the entire evening.
Was a great visit as anticipated - table was ready, great greeting with friendly faces and over great time...
I'm baffled why this restaurant gets such high ratings. My colleague had the prime rib sandwich. The tiny saucer of au jus arrived 5 minutes before the sandwich and was no longer hot. The bread for the sandwich was burnt to a crisp.
I had the "fish & chips" special and the beer batter was beyond crisp--pieces went flying whenever I cut into it. The brocoli florets on the plate had brown edges and were not fresh. No one bother to trim them in the kitchen.
The Opus fries are not made from scratch and there is nothing special about them.
The waiter was charming, service was a bit slow but the restaurant was busy so I accept that.
I like the vibe of the decor--the dark shutters, the purple and chartreuse color scheme. It fits the name Opus 9--just the food doesn't live up to the name.
Maybe dinner is better than lunch when you can spend money on the expensive steaks but lunch was mediocre at best. We won't be back.
Thank you for taking my call; our conversation was certainly enlightening. I am sorry to hear that your lunch was at all disappointing. We have received many fine comments on our prime rib & luncheon specials, & I regret that this was not the case for you. If ever any item misses a mark, please let us know when you are here. We will do all that we can, including replacing any dish if need be, to ensure you leave us happy. I hope we might see you again for the great lunch for which we are known.
Delicious food, excellent service, nice eating outside on the patio.
Outstanding service; ambiance is good, and, great in the semi-private area.
It was great. Do wish our waiter had explained things as well as the waitress at the table next to us.
Food was meh. Service was slow at our table. We noticed other tables seated well after us receive their drinks/food far quicker.
Fantastic restaurant. Attentive waitstaff and excellent food. Not much more that I could ask for. And all of this in a clean inviting well appointed environment. We look forward to our next visit.
