Olive & Ivy Restaurant & Marketplace
We had a dinner reservation for four people, on a Wednesday evening.
Two of us arrived an hour before our 6:30 reservation time, and checked in at the hostess stand just to let them know we were there. We sat in the bar area which was very busy. Attention to service was definitely affected. We had to "summon" a server to order our drinks, but then again, had to get up to find someone to order an appetizer. We were almost finished with our glass of wine by then.
When the other two guests arrived at our reservation time, we were seated next to the server food pick-up station-in a "high traffic" area. There were two other empty tables, close to the window areas of the restaurant which would have been better for conversation, however were told those tables were not available.-There were no "reserved" signs on the tables (don't know if they do that here).
For one of the guests, this was her first time dining at Olive & Ivy. For the other three of us, we had been here for lunch.
For our dinner-the wine selection was fabulous. The entrees-from pastas to fish and salad choices, were very good.
The ambient noise level was really high, making it tough to have a conversation. The seating location, and distraction from all the server traffic around our table, was a negative.
I would keep that in mind, when making a dining choice.
It’s been a while since I’ve been to this particular restaurant. While the menu items look good on paper, I don’t feel they translate that well in reality. We have so many good restaurants in Phoenix and I don’t think this is really one of the contenders. I’m not sure if this is still a Fox restaurant (I believe it is). I would think the bar would be higher in terms of quality of food, flavor, service, and aesthetics. It really does need a bit of a makeover as it is looking tired. We had a lot of stains on the booth cushions where we were seated and I was surprised. This is not a restaurant I will return to but I’m glad I gave it another chance after many years to see if anything was different.
Excellent food and service
Great food and low lit atmosphere for a good time. Fairly loud which was great since my toddler is always loud at dinner so we didnt feel like she was disturbing people. Priced well for the high quality of food. Highly recommended
Excellent evening food was fantastic and our waitress Sarah was exceptional very friendly and provided a multitude of excellent suggestions regarding wine to dinner and dessert.
Once again open table annoys me considerably because they do not have a noise category for being loud, raucous, and unable to converse. Since virtually ever restaurant in town suffers from this problem wish open table would acknowledge. As usual the food was fairly good w/ one glaring exception. the melon and avocado salad was very flavorful but the avocado and the melons were badly under ripe. the bacon date appetizer and the hummus were flawless and the sea bass was both beautiful and flavorful. over all a good experience but ........................
Food was ok. Service a bit condescending. Very noisy place. This is not a place for a nice meal and a conversation with friends. Very limited wine list.
Great service. Great food. Can’t go wrong with the filet of beef*
We were seated a little before 2 pm, and were planning on having lunch. We were surprised to find that the menu was dominated by breakfast items on the weekends. We wished that we had better choices for a weekend lunch.
Really energetic Friday night. Need to turn down the DJ volume in the dining room. No chance for a conversation with the music blasting. Good food per norm and nice environment.
It was our first time and we LOVED it. Booked table online. Food was absolutely amazing and our waiter Jesse was GREAT! Super informative and had excellent personality. Definitely recommend!!
Invited a friend for dinner at Olive and Ivy. Food, service, ambiance were excellent
Our server was good, but the hosts are very rude. Not the first time I’ve experienced this. And I always have reservations when I eat here
Very good food & solid service, but it’s simply overpriced.
Wonderful food! Everything from the Fritto Misto to the flatbreads to the sea bass was amazing. The pesto sauce for the bread was so good! Everyone including the kids enjoyed our dinner. The hostess’s were so nice and very welcoming and the waiter was kind and patient with us while we took our time deciding on our meal.
Great watermelon salad with grilled shrimp!!! Excellent Sea Bass!
Awesome Paloma drinks!!
Just awful service and food was cold. Disappointing
Had a 25%off food and drink. Jacob our server was very attentive and our entrees were not so huge that we left food on our plates.
The food and service were excellent, and the ambience was nice. As with most restaurants today, the noise level was a bit much for comfortable conversation, but overall, this is a very nice restaurant that I look forward to visiting again.
I think Chefs in America could learn to use more spices, small portion for alot of money, but no taste
Staff very helpful and made us feel at home - very attentive. Food amazing! Definitely a next time in the future.
Sangria was not prepared properly, we were thanked for pointing this out and returning the drink. The Lasagna had way too many red pepper flakes and was returned and the chicken scallopini was almost tasteless. Other than that it was a goog dinner. Find a good restaurant to go to instead of Olive & Ivy.
Linch: Sweet potato canelloni and bruschetta were delicious. But the kale salad that we ordered without the bacon was a little thin and uninteresting. Increasing at least one of the salad's other ingredients, e.g., the apple, would have helped. Overall, good food and very good service in an attractive casual atmosphere.
First time at this restaurant. I decided to bring my best friend for her birthday and boy was the food amazing! Highly recommend Seasonal Chefs board appetizer, Natural Chicken dinner plate and Bloody Mary drink!!!
Delicious food...Beautiful restaurant...Excellent service...a MUST TRY restaurant!!
We always love having get togethers here. It’s a must stop when we are in Scottsdale. I always get the mushroom pasta which is FANTASTIC.
Everything was great except our service was a bit delayed. It wasn’t that busy so not sure. But I had to ask for water 3x. But other than that our server was great N food was great! Wil
Love olive and ivy. Excellent brunch!
Will DEFINITELY be coming back!
We sat outside & it was extremely hot. They had misters but on
Food was great, as were the cocktails. Good service.
Had lunch with a friend and we both enjoyed our meals. She had sweet potato cannelloni and I had the tuna salad sandwich. Our server was pleasant and offered suggestions of menu items that were popular. We were in a booth so the noise level was muted a bit. One of my favorite places to eat in Scottsdale.
Despite the inviting outdoor/vaulted indoor dining areas and attentive staff, Olive this is because the one bartender on duty has his hands full with drink orders.
The menu is well-rounded with selections to please most diners. I like the bruschetta as an appetizer, although I wish a better quality baguette could be found for the generous toppings. On a recent visit I sampled the fritto misto: dry, and more batter than necessary. They have a Domaine Ott Cotes de Provence rose, very good at $15/glass; the lesser rose at $10 is thin and unappealing. Ditto the New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc at $10, a mouthful of grass and compatible with few food selections (except the asparagus).
My experiences with service have been very good; staff are friendly and eager to accommodate your wishes (No ice in your water? Of course sir.) On most evenings reservations are recommended given the popularity of the restaurant and appeal of the outdoor seating, along the walking path and Scottsdale Waterfront canal.
Summing it up, you'll enjoy the experience if you maintain your expectations at a reasonable level. A very large space, food selections well-presented and in some instances creative, very busy during most dinner hours. If I could shrink this restaurant space to half the size, it would perform much more 'on point'.
Met a friend here for brunch. Too hot to sit outside so sat inside, very dark and gloomy. Better ambiance for a dinner than a brunch. Ordered a cappuccino, delicious, and french toast, sad. A thin slices of bread covered in cinnamon sugar. I don't even think there was egg on it! My friend said the cheese on her egg sandwich was off. I have great dinners here but I would not recommend it for brunch.
The food was awesome! And the service was excellent! They pay somewhat loud music to help to quite the noise from everyone talking... Which does help take the edge off of the noise.
Everything was outstanding! This was our first trip to Olive & Ivy and it was worth every penny. Th bread and housemade pesto was to die for, the lamb meatballs were unlike any I've ever tasted, the steak and salmon were excellent choices for entrees, and ten we topped it off with dessert. You can't go wrong with the peanut butter mousse or the lemon curd cake. Service was great and we would definitely recommend coming here for a date.
Sitting outside even on a hot night was delightful. The menu had some high points including the shrimp scampi. The filet was not a great texture. The meal was acceptable to pretty good but when the check came I realized value was lacking. My wife and I agreed the with all the sensational restaurants in the Valley this one was not worth revisiting.
Great place for dates....if you can get a reservation. Awesome food with great service.
One meal came out less than warm and had to be sent back.
Great for a birthday brunch
