Escargot de Bourgogne
oven roasted snails, garlic-herb butter
french green beans, brown butter, lemon
Steak & Frites
Ordered steak medium rare came well done
Sent to back
They tried to charge me for two steaks
Took long time to get bread and butter
No ambience. No music, no candles. Could hear every dish being rattled as well as drinks being made.
Good as usual
Right now MAG is surrounded on all sides by construction and construction equipment, a monster of a mess making it next to impossible to access on foot, and impossible to access for a car to do curb pick up. An absolute nightmare.
I'm afraid my favorite restaurant won't be seeing me for a long time after this.
Regardless, great food, wonderful waiter.
Wonderful service and great food
Delicious food and Covid compliant service. Thank you
Good food excellent service. NIce wine list.
Missy and fredericko provided greay service! The food and drinks are always amazing and it is our favorite place to eat out in bethesda.
Definitely would recommend this restaurant! Excellent food and service!
The thing we miss most is eating in restaurants so when my mom got both her COVID shots this is the first place we went when restaurants reopened (at 25% capacity) to celebrate. I live over an hour away but the drive was worth it, and on a rainy Friday night the traffic made us late but they were so accommodating and we got a lovely booth in the main dining room. Our waiter Ruben was attentive, professional, and fun; the escargot, trout almondine, creme brulee, and French martinis were all delicious. We had a lovely evening and will be back very soon!
Excellent French entrees. I am especially fond of the hanger steak and mussels. Best wine list in the area at reasonable prices. A fun place to enjoy a meal with friends and family.
We sat outside 6' away from friends but within easy talking distance. What a wonderful feeling to be able to enjoy great food and great company safely during Covid. Service was attentive and cheerful. Thank you so much, Mon Ami Gabi.
The waiter wasn’t that friendly and nice. The lunch steak was super small. We ordered two. One was a little bigger but one was just like 3 bites max. We were thinking of having two upcoming birthdays there but after many times dining there this time Wasnt a great experience. The quality of food and price was good but the size of the steak and attitude of the waiter wasn’t pleasant:(
Mon Ami Gabi is one of our go-to places and is reliably excellent. It was our first meal out in a while due to the pandemic, but they had adequate safety precautions in place. New since the pandemic is a charge for bread and a 5% service charge but we had a great dinner.
Food was not the usually quality.... it was very loud. Service was pretty good. We had hoped for the usually quality. Hopefully next time
Very quiet. The lighting could be a bit more soft. Service was great. The appetizers menu could use some updating. We only ordered a baguette since nothing on the menu was light enough. But otherwise a very pleasant meal. And the cream of mushroom soup is so decadent. The grilled salmon salad is always done to perfection.
A wonderful meal on a cold winter night. As always, the French Onion soup was perfect!
Delicious lunch prix fix menu. Great value.
The food was so good. Staff was really nice. Loved it.
Service was off. Some menu items changed and not improved, but demoted.
These guys are always on point. Food and service are always great. My favorite is the hanger steak and frites with mushrooms.
Our waiter was very pleasant and great with my 4 year old son.
The baked Brie was amazing!
This place was really good. Excellent food at the right price. Would totally recommend to a friend.
The French Toast is amazing!!
We had a nice Valentine's Day brunch here. Attentive service, food was delicious!
No complaints everything was wonderful
This was our first visit to this restaurant (we are not locals). Construction in the area made it difficult to navigate and find parking, so I called to let someone know that we were running a few minutes late. I was surprised by the tone of annoyance in her voice.
Service was extremely slow (no explanation) and we were never offered anything to make the wait more bearable. I am sympathetic of COVID restrictions, and the heated tent would have been fine, but it remained open on one end and I had to eat with my coat on. Having said that, we had no complaints about the food, and both the steak and the salmon were quite good. I am not sure that I will be returning, although I would recommend it to those who enjoy French cuisine.
Understand it’s covid, but service was very slow. Waiter overworked, too many tables, could not cover his tables effectively, tents and non tent. Delivered cappuccino after I finished dessert.
The pommes frites are the best in town! Filet mignon cooked perfectly and the house red, a Bordeaux Superior was indeed superior for a house wine by the glass! Caesar salad also very good.
I would like to think that the overall experience would have been better if we could have dined inside the restaurant rather than outside in a cold tent. The only warm area was near the open tent door where the heater was positioned so it was warm, cold, and noisy. We relied on another waiter to place and receive our food and meal order more than our actual waiter. I did not receive my full order and the food was okay but slightly over priced for the particular item I ordered.
Went for DC Winter restaurant week - good value 3 course meal for $35 per head. Tent was a little chilly, but once the gas was changed on the heater it warmed up nicely. Food lovely, servers all friendly and attentive.
I have been to Mon Ami Gabi a few times now. The food is delicious and perfect each time but the major downfall is the service at this location (Bethesda, MD). During all of our visits, the host/hostess are very unwelcoming with a simple "hello" and followed with a blank stare. That is even IF we are even acknowledged, thus forcing us to initiate the greeting to the host/hostess. I have worked in the restaurant industry, many years ago, and when you greet guests you say "Hello, welcome to [restaurant's name] how may I help you?" Or "do you have reservations this evening/afternoon/morning, etc?"
Then there is the table service. The individuals who first greet you with placing the appetizer plates and cutlery are always polite and friendly, even those who help remove finished dishes from the table, but for some reason our actual servers lack in that same department. Both times we have been "blessed" with the same server. He is a average height, mid-40's to 50's hispanic? man. The first time I went with a girlfriend for restaurant week at 3:30pm and we had been running around all day doing errands and hanging out and forgot to eat! So while on Bethesda Row we decided to stop in. When we told our server that we would like to partake in the restaurant week, he responded with "Oh, a 3-course meal at 3:30 in the afternoon. Ok." The last and "final" time was just a few days ago during Winter RW in DC. Again, my fiancé and I were blessed with the same server, and when we told him that we would like to partake in the RW menu, he began arguing with us that it is not RW. Then we said yes, it runs from Jan. 25th - Feb. 7th (that day being Jan.30th). He said well then it is the restaurant in downtown DC. Thing is... there is no Mon Ami Gabi in downtown DC, only Bethesda and Virginia. After checking with the manager, it was in fact, RW at the Bethesda location. Please, train your servers and hosts better. I will do carry out from now on and will never dine in, again, here.
We were outside, the Tent was full, there was one waiter , one bus guy and I suspect one cook. We have been to Mon Ami, many times and this time the service was way too slow.
We waited 35 minutes to get a drink. 45 to get food.
Because of Montgomery County COVID restrictions, we are in a heated tent. It is hard to judge ambiance. Staff worked hard to make guests comfortable and provide a pleasant dining experience.
Not impressed with every aspect of the meal. Soup, sides and dessert were fine...meat dish, not so much !
I love this restaurant and I think they’ve adapted as well as they can with covid.
I showed up with my daughter and mother-in-law on a cold Saturday night and was unaware that Montgomery County was still prohibiting indoor dining. We were not happy to be led out to a big white tent but once we settled in it was comfortable with our coats on. And every staff member generated a considerable amount of warmth with their gracious and attentive service! The food was delicious, the service wonderful. We ended up very happy that we braved the tent and would do it again.
Amazing meal and service and even more important their safety and cleanliness was amazing!
