Matchbox offers a varied menu with something good and fresh for all appetites. Service is great and everyone is pleasant ans professional.
One of my favorite places to eat in the Mosaic District.
Food and service were great. No complaints.
18 dollars for a Cobb salad alone is insane. Plus another $7 to add chicken??? No thank you!! Food wasn’t great either. Very poor service!

Overpriced. $19 for six wings?? $6 for a lemonade?? Ridiculous. Will not be going back.

The miso salmon was superb ! However we were shocked when we got the bill showing the tempura shrimp appetizer was $18 !!! YIKES and we ordered two ! Which cost $38.00 . Service was a bit slow but overall we enjoyed our friends birthday celebration!
We’ve been to Matchbox a few times (pre-pandemic); always thought the food was great. Chose it for a rare dinner outing with friends. Soft drink machine was out of order (no carbonated beverages available). Server was *funny* but didn’t know when to stop with the jokes. Food was served lukewarm. Onion straws are nothing to write home about unless that letter is all about menu choice regrets. Food quality has definitely gone downhill since pandemic. While getting ready to leave, observed a dinner knife that had been dropped on the floor and was clearly noticeable in the middle of a walk area (definite “a$$-over-teakettle” fall waiting to happen if someone stepped on it the wrong way). Two different wait staff walked over it and a third stepped directly on it but did not stop to pick it up. Won’t be going back.
The food was good, but the service was slower than we hoped. Our appetizer came out and our regular order around the same time resulting in little time between courses.
Great food and service. Nice 80's music playing in background. TV's if interested in sports.
Very noisy due to sitting next to a large loud table. Diminished experience.
Champagne needs some work. Other than that food was delicious. It was during brunch time and we were seated and and forgotten about. A server came by accidentally just to ask us if we been helped… that was like a good 15-20 mins after we were seated.
Our waitress, who admitted when we sat down, that today was her, "first day back in two weeks" decided to leave and go home because of a family emergency-right after taking our drink orders-Hey things happen, but management apparently never assigned our table to another server, leaving us waiting with menu's for an hour. The place was busy, so I understand a there's going to be a delay and scramble to fill, but to forget about a table entirely and make us late for our movie and cause the 7 year old with us to have a meltdown because she was starving is a bit much....No manager came over to the table to apologize, even though we asked to see one. We have been to Matchbox several times over the years, to this location and the one downtown and never had a bad time....Restaurants are struggling right now- we will def give them another chance, but be fore-warned, if your server says it's her first day back, and you ask her how it's going and all you get is a shrug in return, order everything RIGHT AWAY......otherwise it's gonna be a while....
The food was great
We loved being outside and felt safe there.
Waitress was asked for Mayo and ketchup but didn’t bring until burger was 75% eaten.
Tuna poke bowl was disappointing because there wasn’t much there and it was expensive. I don’t mind paying for the tuna but give me some more veggies.

We frequent this Matchbox location often & have never been disappointed, until tonight that is. We ordered the chicken tortilla soup & pork belly lentil soup to start and both soups were room temperature. We didn’t say anything and just let it go. Then our main dishes came out. I got the chicken fettuccine Alfredo which I have had twice before and enjoyed in the past. Tonight the sauce was super watery and had zero taste. This time I let the waiter know and he took it back and I ordered a different dish. In addition to the food being subpar tonight, one staff member was obnoxiously loud. Her name was Asia or Haysia, and I know this because she loudly corrected another employee who got her name wrong. She was loud the entire time we were there and we couldn’t help but hear all her conversations. We were seated near the kitchen and that’s where we could hear her. I would also mention our server was fine but I would’ve expected a manager to at least stop by and acknowledge that the fact we had to send back a meal. I’ll definitely think twice before going back. There are so many other good restaurants in the area.
We actually were there on time and THEY did not have a table for us. They said they were short in staff and could not seat us. We left our name on the waiting list just in case. But we had two hungry kids and had to find another place who could sit us right away.
They texted us almost 40 min after our reservation time. What was the point of making a reservation and conforming it if they will not take us?
Very disappointed with their service.
Very friendly bar staff, ordered salads to go and they mistakenly brought them to us to eat at the bar, there wasn’t much in the container when I got at home to eat it so I was a little bit disappointed in the portion. But otherwise the ambience was great in the restaurant was not too noisy so having a conversation was easy
Delicious pizzas, quick and efficient service, quiet sitting area, reasonable distance between tables given the continuing pandemic
I know there are labor shortages so we are usually patient, but this was ridiculous. We had to ask for our server multiple times as he disappeared for long stretches and then came back and was temporarily overly attentive for 2-3 minutes only to disappear again. Also had order issues and didn't bring the check when we asked him to so had to ask someone else 10-15 minutes later.
Really enjoy this restaurant!! Our dinner party had the mini burgers, wings, ribs, jumbo shrimp, and a pizza. Food was perfectly cooked and our drinks were good too! The prices are a tad bit high, but the quality of food makes up for it!
Was seated in the most awkward area in the restaurant, the table had a Column coming out of it. And all of the surrounding tables were open. The food and drinks were fantastic, and the server was very attentive. I did notice an additional drink charged on my check after the fact so double check to make sure your bill is correct.
Have been going to Matchbox since last 15 years or so. The quality of food has gone way down. Our standard order is fire and smoke pizza and table bread with drinks. Table bread used to be $1 now it’s $5 which is okay but they do not bring out the garlic butter with or on it anymore. The whole reason to order the bread is the butter.
Matchbox has changed the recipe for fire and smoke pizza way too many times in last 5 years. A couple of years ago they stopped adding Smoky Gouda which ruined the pizza. Now they came back to the original recipe but changed the dough so it’s not the same. The base cannot get crispy even though you ask the server to make it extra crispy. The server followed all our instructions but still the pizza turned out just okay.
Please get back to the original ingredients and recipe. ThNk you!
Went here for my very first Matchbox experience and it was every bit of amazing! The food was so delicious! Can’t wait to visit again!
We three ladies had a delightful time; the food was delicious and our waiter so accommodating...will definitely return!
Did you change the recipe of the pesto chicken pizza? It is much worse than it used to be.
Also you did not have the beer that we wanted. Not a big deal but a little bit annoying considering we were told that you had the beer but it was not tapped yet.

We went to experience Matchbox's Restaurant menu. Although we were not dining late in the evening (6:30), they ran out of the crispy chicken all four of us ordered! We asked if we could then order a chicken dish off the regular menu for the same price and was told we could not. We'd already eaten our appetizers when we were informed of the chicken shortage. Bait and switch?
Our waiter was terrific - available when needed, accommodating, and pleasant. It was not his fault the restaurant ran out of the dish.
Pizza oven was down but we were not told of this up front. The entire reason for going was for pizza, would have been nice to know before being seated and ordering apps & drinks. Food is average and really not worth the prices they charge.
We appreciated the opportunity to eat outdoors (the only eating out we are doing during the Delta surge), but I would be better if Matchbox reservations allowed diners to reserve for outdoor seating as some restaurants do. My food was fine but my husband's breaded shrimp had shells in some of them. Unfortunately, the servers are not all wearing masks properly --they wear them beneath their noses in some cases, which defeats the purpose of the mask.
The brunch here used to be great but they took away the unlimited brunch and half the brunch items. The brunch menu now consists of about 8 options.
The menu has changed a bunch over the last year and not for the better in my view. It is quite eclectic, so maybe they are trying to see to what the locals gravitate. There are some basic entrées and some very expensive ones, which seem out of place this restaurant.

Went for an early dinner so it wasn't busy but they seemed well staffed. Hostess and waitress that took our order were very friendly. Food took quite a while to come out. Side salad came with the meal which wasn't ideal. When it was time to get a box and check it was tough to flag someone down even though it still wasn't busy.
I tried twice to provide feedback directly to Matchbox via the "contact us" website link. No response. Our food was good, no complaints. The dining experience, however, was awful.
I am aware and understanding of service shortages, but expect the basics when dining out. Staff was unfriendly, and at times, rude, clearly frazzled (saying so out loud), and our waitress/the bartender and the two pizza makers (in direct view of customers), wore their masks improperly. The pizza makers wore their masks as chin covers (I offered to send a picture to Matchbox) and the waitress's did not cover her nose. After 1.5 yrs, if a mask is part of your uniform, it should fit and be worn properly.
We ordered food and I ordered a cocktail. About 10 minutes later, our waitress came over and said she made the wrong drink. She stood there, and said, "I can just throw it away if you want." I told her I'd take it (it was one I had considered), expecting that she would comp the drink. But no, I paid for the cocktail she made by mistake. In that case, just make the drink I ordered and bring it to the table. Why take the time to tell the customer?
A food runner put our food on the table and left without saying a word. I flagged him down the next time I saw him b/c we needed condiments. He dropped off a near-empty shaker of parmesan cheese. I asked a woman, who appeared to be a manager, for a refill. She said it might take a while. OK. She returned and dropped some take-out packets of cheese on our table. I asked if we could get the shaker refilled and she said, "let me see if I can find some." She eventually returned with a full shaker and said, "I was able to find some for you!" In a restaurant that serves pasta and pizza, parmesan cheese should not be a special request.
We also had trouble getting the bill and our dirty dishes were still on the table when we left. This was my birthday dinner w/my kids, so I paid (incl. a tip, expecting to discuss w/Matchbox directly on another day.
We enjoyed the food, the service, and the opportunity to eat outdoors on our recent visit. The chicken sandwich was delicious and hot (though I prefer a simpler preparation which Matchbox accommodated. However, the cinnamon rolls were not nearly as good as the prior version. These were hard and too large to serve as an appetizer. I would also like Matchbox to consider reserving for outdoor seating. Since COVID is raging again in NOVA, we have a strong preference for not eating indoors in a restaurant.
It was very good but it is about time to discard the “pandemic menu” and serve all the good food and selections on their original menu.
