Bastille Day dinner on a Sunday at 6 pm.
Food was mostly good, and the entrees, while very delicious, were both a little bit too salty.
The style of the apple tart — almost an apple purée — was a disappointment. The crime brûlée was superb!
This place is a classic for a reason. This was my first time having their brunch and it was just absolutely lovely!
As outstanding as promised!
We had planned a special outing here weeks in advance of our trip to DC to visit our adult children. The food was well executed, but the service was lacking. It was difficult to know what was going on, but our waiter seemed inexperienced. We ordered two bottle of wine (white and red) and he was uncertain how to handle it. Only one set of wine glasses were brought to the table and when we asked for a second set, the host of our table was asked who wanted each wine instead of the guests themselves. It was loud, but at this price point the staff should be able to accommodate. Moules frites were outstanding, but the bread was taken from the table and we couldn't soak up the delicious broth even though iit was requested again. Roasted chicken, skate and steak au poivre were all excellent. Not sure we'd return for the same experience.
Always enjoy LeDiplomate. Food is exceptional as is service. We were there when they celebrated Bastille Day with a drag show. It was terrific and quite loud and somewhat rowdy. If you aren’t turned off by crowds and loud guests I highly recommend.
Great food and the decor really makes you feel like you're in a Parisient bistro
The waiting staff work very hard to rush you to eat and free the table for the next guests. Once we were done with the mains, they almost haras you to finish and leave.
My wife and I went for our anniversary. They went above and beyond to make a it a special night for us. They provided the perfect amount of service and the food was exceptional.
Delicious Loup de Mer!
La Fête du 14 juillet with French friends. Traditional food, as one would hope to find in a French bistrot. I’ll be back the next time I’m in DC.
Amzing from A to Z welcoming, waiters, food ... 1st but not last
Our service was just not the best. Food was fair. The noise level was SO loud we could not enjoy a conversation. The dessert was by far the best part.
Wonderful service and food
The best meal we had in D.C. - and we are some wonderful meals! Make a reservation well in advance. Go there!
Wonderful food. Fun and friendly vibe. Big portions. Profiterole dessert to die for!
Always 5 stars
Love this place. Food is well prepared and presented. They hostess stand is not always the most accommodating, but given the regular crowd, sticking to the book is probably wise.
We have been to Le Diplomate 4 times and the food and service is always superb. We’ll be back in a couple months for my husband’s birthday. 😊
Great meal and great food. Thought the place was great in a sense that anyone could go there. They had anything from classic French bistro food to burgers. My twelve year old son loved it. Would recommend!
A wonderful restaurant with top quality food and service. Atmosphere incredibly boisterous so conversation can be hard. But otherwise, would recommend to other friends!
Awesome restaurant Melvin was excellent best deserts in the city.
Overall a good experience. The food is on the salty side.
I’ve been meaning to go to Le Diplomate for awhile now; I had heard many good things. While the food was fine, the service could use some work. Our waitress came by on three separate occasions within the first half hour to see if we wanted cocktails or wine while we had our apps; really annoying since we said no the first time. Then she disappeared for what felt like an hour- meanwhile I was trying to place another order for our main and ask for more bread. If it wasn’t for the lack of attention I would have added another star.
Authentic French Food in a very authentic atmosphere. The wall paint and the details remind me of an old left bank bistro we used to frequent. Authentic right down to the antique fixtures and subway tile in the Bath.
I love this restaurant. Always a winner. Paris in DC.
The small seafood plateau for was excellent quality and quite filling for the two of us. Service could not have been better - proactive but never invasive and always warm
Literally the best scallops I have ever had and the frost was spectacular. 10/10
This was my first meal at Le Diplomate. We had a party of five celebrating a birthday. A wonderful meal, with helpful advice on a wine selection that met all of our needs. Setting is fantastic, and service was superior. This will not be the mast time I go there.
Love everything about Le Diplomate.
Brunch outstanding and great service. Energetic but feels laid back like a true Parisian cafe, especially outside. Looking forward to returning soon.
Brunch was SO good. Everyone in our party loved our respective meals. Bread basket was fresh and delicious and the breakfast pastries and coffee options were to die for. Service was great (Roger was amazing), only complaint was people were taking food off of our table without asking before we were finished (bread basket, jams, coffee, etc.). Otherwise, awesome dining experience and would love to return.
A must go in Washington DC! The moules frites were exceptional!!
Always nice experience
Lets see if they can maintain as they are slightly slipping
Food is fantastic. I don't think DC has another classic French restaurant with a modern flair and vibe.
The atmosphere was energetic, without being too difficult to have a conversation.
I was disappointed that they did not do anything for my wife's birthday, as I noted it in the reservation. I would expect a restaurant on this level to at least wish her a happy birthday, if not offer a complimentary desert.
Additionally, it took nearly 15 minutes for a server to greet us. I understand it was a busy Saturday night, but this still seemed like an excessively long time.
One of DC’s very finest!!!!!
Great lunch as always. Seated on time and excellent service.
This was my 6th time dining at Le Diplomat. I like this restaurant, but this time I really didn’t like the service and the food was bland which was a bit disappointing. The waitress was not attentive and while she was cleaning the table dropped my eye glasses. Luckily, it didn’t break, but that showed how careless she was. I’m not sure if I’d come back any time soon.
It's a French dining experience that starts with a great bread service and only builds from there.
We had a nice dinner; nothing astounding and the experience likely suffered because of high expectations from reading previous reviews.
Food was good to average. The escargot was very good. The strip was cooked perfectly but the peppercorn sauce was very light - disappointed not the more creme based approach. The scallops were adequate but the standout was the layer of potatoes they were served upon. Sadly does not compare to Chez Billy Sud.
